**The Beta Version 2.9 is now live on Android and iOS, featuring many new internal changes.**

This update is a significant refactor due to new requirements from Google and Apple, which necessitate a complete redesign of the app's internal structure. This is why we have spent weeks testing thoroughly to ensure everything operates smoothly. Let's start by reviewing all the changes.

#### 1. Device Compatibility

- Support for 16k memory devices (as required by app stores).

#### 2. Enhanced Encryption Flow

- Unlock directly with biometrics (fingerprint/face ID).

- Automatic fallback to PIN if biometrics fail or are disabled.

- First-time setup will prompt biometrics twice: once to decrypt the old system and once to re-encrypt in the new system.

#### 3. New Security Settings Page

- Option to enable/disable biometrics.

- Added a PIN lock mechanism: after 5 failed attempts, login is locked temporarily. Lock time increases with each failed attempt until the correct PIN is entered.

#### 4. Navigation Improvements

- Smoother screen transition animations.

- We added a swipe gesture from the edge to go back between screens.

#### 5. Camera & Gestures

- Better QR code scanning ability with the camera.

- Improved gesture handling (e.g., reordering swipes, deleting browser favorites).

#### 6. Cleanup & Performance

- Removal of unused assets.

- Improvements in the notifications feature.

- General UI/UX adjustments.

#### 7. Technical Upgrade

- A huge part of the refactor was the switch from bare React Native to Expo.

- These changes come with several advantages, like faster upgrades to new React Native versions and related libraries, easier compliance with new store requirements, and faster deployments. This means less time between new releases.

<div id="what-to-do"><h1>What to do after this update?</h1></div>

With this update, most things happen behind the scenes. **On your side, the key step is decrypting and re-encrypting your keys using your biometrics to enable the new encryption system. If you were already using your fingerprints, the App will ask for your biometrics twice (once to decrypt using the old system, once to reencrypt using the new one).** This can either be your FaceID or Fingerprints, which you can also disable if you want in the new Settings > Security screen. Once the migration is done, you will be able to access the App using only your biometrics or your PIN (instead of both).

When I was still working, I usually ate breakfast at six in the morning. Nope, not only coffee or bread but rice. Yes, it was heavy as my mind couldn't function well if I am starving. My lunchtime would be at eleven, not exceeding twelve.

Thus, since I became a Mom, eating pastime has become normal. Yes, I know that I should be eating **ON TIME** but since some of you may know that I'm alone taking care of my son that's too impossible.


**Your child is now a toddler, still can't eat on time?**

On some days, I enjoyed my meal but not all the time. Mostly, it's lunchtime. I could eat past twelve noon to one in the afternoon. I never knew that I could live on just a cup of coffee and bread that long.

Especially these past weeks since my son Caleb is teething, molars. As I checked today, there are three teeth that erupt. He was so fussy and barely slept at noon.

**How I survive the day? Let me give you a glimpse like today.**

Timestamp: 10:25 in the morning and finally after being awake since 5:30 he slept.

Yes I am carrying him. He's been like these for weeks. Previously, he would just sleep on his own.

I place him on the bed and prepare my meal. Just reheat it on the stove while sweeping.

After several attempts, it was still unsuccessful and I see how those chubby legs are forbidding me to do so.

I could already feel my tummy growling, hands shaking due to hunger 🤣.

**Why not let him wake up and let tagged along while I'm eating?**


My fellow mother's would understand me, not letting a toddler sleep when they are sleepy would just end up more chaos later.

12:17, when I finally left our bed and ate lunch quickly. No time to savor my food as I know he will be awake again after a few minutes.

My instinct was right as at 12:54 I was chatting to @asiaymalay had he been awake again.


*Being a Mom is no easy job as there are a lot of sacrifices and you need to compromise. I was just thankful that my husband was always supportive in any way or else I might lose my sanity 🤣. However, seeing our child grow healthy, every smile, hug and hearing them laugh was enough to recharge our strength.*

We are quickly approaching a milestone where another digit will be added to the block number. Assuming nothing goes wrong, block #100,000,000 is expected to be produced in the next 48 hours as of writing this. Most likely the block would already been produced by the time you are reading this.

The last time an event like this occurred was on [8 Mar 2017, 17:34:24 UTC](https://hivehub.dev/b/10000000). A brief period of network congestion will be expected as everyone will try to get their transactions included in exactly block 100M. The next time another digit will be added after block 100M (which will be block 1B) will be in another 85.6 years, provided that the year 2106 timestamp serialization problem will be fixed by then.

@techcoderx Hive witness update log #36: 100M Blocks

I recently wrote that [I finally decided to learn Python](https://ecency.com/category/@shainemata/finally-decided-to-learn-python). I just finished the second day of lessons. I'm learning from Google Gemini as a tutor. The lessons are geared towards eventually working with AI. It seemed like a good idea to write about my progress as a form of accountability. I risk losing interest and not learning more than a few lessons without sharing my progress.

Fortunately, Gemini is running through this at what is relatively breakneck speed compared to my college experience. I'm aware that it is leaving out many details in each lesson. I think it is trying to make me somewhat functional to where I can do some basic work. Then, as problems arise, I can backfill my knowledge with what was glossed over.

Today's Lessons
---------------

Today's lessons were a bit more involved than the previous day, which is written below. Overall, we covered Lists, Dictionaries, For loops, and Functions. Looking over the syllabus, we seem to have skipped over floating point numbers, tuples, and while loops. I brought this to Gemini's attention, so we'll cover that in our next lesson.

The next lesson will cover more reading and writing files, error handling, introduction to Python libraries, and using pip to install libraries. So far, I have been working in a shell account to which I subscribe. I do worry that some of the libraries won't be available and I won't be able to download new ones. If that happens, I'll need to move my practice to my local computer. I don't like adding cruft to my computer.

First day of lessons
--------------------

The first day of lessons consisted of learning variables, data types, user input, and conditional logic. These are the most basic components of any language. With just this you can write some very basic scripts. This is the boring, yet necessary, stuff that put me off from learning all this time.

Maintaining Pace
----------------

The Python lessons in Gemini are relatively short and very basic. This works for me as I can advance more quickly and avoid mental burnout that happens when you sit around thinking hard for hours. After each lesson, I still have mental energy in reserve.

I read somewhere that people generally only have about four hours of hard productivity in them each day. Beyond that, people aren't as effective. This is true of both hunter-gatherers and knowledge workers. If you can get four hours of focused effort into your workday, you can be successful. Of course, the problem is the never-ending interruption most jobs entail.

Future Learning
---------------

It is a bit worrying that Gemini will soon dump me into the deep end of the swimming pool. After this next lesson, we are going to jump into AI Libraries. Gemini is not fooling around. Swimming in the deep end, I'll need to start supplementing my knowledge of Python, designing projects, and Statistics. It couldn't hurt to figure out how to use git and github.

For now, I'm working through a terminal. But I suspect I'll have to start using something more advanced. There's more to being a developer than knowing how to code. There is a process with which I am not familiar. It's a new adventure.

A new section in there for LEO staked on ARB now.  I've shifted a bit over, from taking some profits on LSTR.  However, the crazy bridge fee is a major disincentive to moving more over for now.  We had 6000 LEO to move, and have burned over 600 of those bridging.  I wanted to dabble a bit and see how rewards go, but I'm really not keen on loosing 10% of our LEO on bridge fees. We got our first payout for SURGE since boosting it to 5000 tokens, and that has nicely increased our income for the week as you will see below.

After big buys last week, this week has just been organic growth.  We added nearly 40 EDSI for the week, which is a good amount.  Our income more than doubled from last week, which is awesome.

A good week for income, with SURGE hitting top spot for our sources of income over the week.  Between more SURGE, more EDSI and more BEE we managed to boost our income a bit for the week.

The value of this weeks dividend distribution is $14.81, up a bit on last week which is good.  Another 3.646 LBI sent to @null.  Overall a better week for income with numbers heading in the right direction.

# Liquidity report.

Our pools are all still looking good, with 20% or higher APR's and dividends and trading fees on top of that.  Where else can you earn LEO at 20% APR???  

Couldn't pull out the volume report for the last week as Tribaldex was failing to fetch data, and Beeswap doesn't show pool volume.  If anyone knows another/a better way to monitor pool volumes on HE pools, let me know.  Last I looked, there was nice trading action for all pools, and LP's are earning fee income.

# Conclusion

Values are down a bit, but our long term outlook is good.  All our assets are growing as planned, with the inbuilt growth from things like EDSI, DAB and PWR ticking over nicely.
