I recently went through quite the experience. As some of you may know I recently got a kitten. She has been awesome, a really great cat and the kids love her. She got a bit of a calling for the wild and always trying to sneak outside or meowing so that I can hold her out on the balcony.
It all started out as a regular day I went to work leaving her behind for a few hours with all her food and toys, after work I stopped by a store to get some treats for her. I came back home, started to unpack the few things I picked up and getting her treat out on a plate, she usually comes to greet us when we come home but she didn't I had the good out and still nothing,maybe she was in a deep nap, I started to call her name and look around... She was gone I was panicking there was no way for her to leave until I looked at the window she squished through the crack and ripped the metal mesh falling down 8 stories!
I didn't see it happened but was clear that is what happened based on the ripped mesh, I ran down with a bag of treats, and frantically shaking them while yelling her name, unfortunately to no avail, I thought well maybe she got hurt and someone got her , I quickly made some signs and hung them around the building.
I was really worried for her as we live right next to a fairly large forest that has a predators like coyotes.... After that I tried to go deeper into the forest but still no luck.
To make matters worse it was about time for me to pick up the kids from daycare, they really love her and so that was also weighing on me, I was hoping she would get found but there was no certainty, I had to come up with some fake news and let them know she went to visit her cat mom , my son still started to cry saying why but I love her, I had to distract him and after I put on some shows he did not think about it.
I was till very concerned and upset about our cat, looking online and calling animal services but no luck l, I figured best bet was to put her litter box outside around where she dropped and leave some dry food and water inside so that if she tried to come back she could have a place, it was already getting late I checked a few times but she didn't show.
I was really tired and ended up going to bed, my friend came by around midnight with his dog, it smelled the litter box and was able to find my cat!
She was actually not very far in the forest but was really scared and hiding under a log, I am really glad my friend and his dog help find her, the next day I woke to the good news and lots of relief and later that day my friend brought her back.
She is doing just fine and hopefully learned a lesson, I am going to try and take her out on walks with a leash to feed her cravings for the wild in a safe manner 🤣.
