Like in the Movies
We had this on our bucket list for a while and it didn’t dissapoint at all! Wandering through Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia felt like stepping into a dream. The water shimmered in shades of turquoise and emerald, tumbling from one lake to another in endless cascades, while wooden pathways winded across the surface like something out of a fairytale.
What struck me most was how nature can create such beauty and we were able to enjoy. Everywhere you looked, nature puts on a show - sunlight dancing on the water, the rush of waterfalls, and the quiet rustle of forests. It’s one of those rare places that literally can make you cry.
It’s no surprise that Plitvice’s beauty caught the eye of filmmakers, too. Back in the 1960s, the park was used as a filming location for the famous Winnetou movies, based on Karl May’s beloved novels. Its waterfalls and wild landscapes stood in for the American frontier, and fans still come here to relive those cinematic moments. Actually I am one of them, read a lot of Karl May when I was a boy.
If you’re visiting Croatia, make time for Plitvice. Come early, since parking space is limited, take a few hours or the whole day walking the trails, and let yourself get lost in its beauty—you’ll carry the memory long after you leave. The 40€ entrance fee is imo nothing compared to what you will experience, I would have paid a hundred to get in!

Wie im Film
Das stand schon eine Weile auf unserer Wunschliste und hat uns überhaupt nicht enttäuscht! Durch den Nationalpark Plitvicer Seen in Kroatien zu wandern, war wie ein Traum. Das Wasser schimmerte in Türkis- und Smaragdtönen und floss in endlosen Kaskaden von einem See zum nächsten, während sich Holzstege wie aus einem Märchen über die Oberfläche schlängelten.
Was mich am meisten beeindruckt hat, war, wie die Natur solche Schönheit schaffen kann, und dass wir sie genießen durften. Wohin man auch blickte, bot die Natur ein Spektakel – Sonnenlicht, das auf dem Wasser tanzte, rauschende Wasserfälle und das leise Rascheln der Wälder. Es ist einer dieser seltenen Orte, die einen buchstäblich zu Tränen rühren können.
Kein Wunder, dass die Schönheit von Plitvice auch Filmemacher auf den Plan gerufen hat. In den 1960er Jahren diente der Park als Drehort für die berühmten Winnetou-Filme, die auf den beliebten Romanen von Karl May basieren. Seine Wasserfälle und wilden Landschaften standen stellvertretend für die amerikanische Grenze, und Fans kommen immer noch hierher, um diese filmischen Momente noch einmal zu erleben. Ich bin tatsächlich einer von ihnen, da ich als Junge viel von Karl May gelesen habe.
Wenn Ihr Kroatien besucht, nehmt euch Zeit für Plitvice. Kommt früh, da die Parkplätze begrenzt sind, nehmt euch ein paar Stunden oder den ganzen Tag Zeit, um die Wanderwege zu erkunden. Lasst euch von der Schönheit verzaubern – sie wird noch lange nach der Abreise in Erinnerung bleiben. Der Eintrittspreis von 40 € ist meiner Meinung nach nichts im Vergleich zu dem, was man da erleben darf, ich hätte sogar hundert Euro bezahlt, um hineinzukommen!
