Framing The Cats umbrella

(78)inPhoto-essay

I made a post a few days ago about the umbrella movie prop that my grandson bought that is from the Mike Meyers film The Cat in the Hat.

https://ecency.com/hive-125125/@melinda010100/the-cat-in-the-hat?referral=melinda010100

He wanted to get the umbrella framed so that he could preserve it and hang it on the wall and is lucky enough that his mom does framing. A project that size could easily cost $600 and because the time and creative framing was a gift to him and he was only charged for materials, it cost him considerably less.

These are a few of the tools used in cutting and assembling the background matte that was used.

A very creative red and white striped matte was assembled that matches the Cats Hat! Each strip had to be beveled so they would all fit seamlessly together.

This jewelry wire was chosen to hold the umbrella in place.

Holes were drilled through the hardboard backing and the matte.

The photo is a screen shot from the YouTube movie clip. The umbrella is red and white until it was covered with the exploding cupcake batter. The children duck behind the umbrella with the cat to escape the goo, but the umbrella and the kitchen walls are covered in purple!

You can still see the lighter colored panels of the umbrella.

Creating the freehand purple exploding cupcake blobs out of matte board and paper proved challenging!

Everyone is very happy with the finished product and my grandson has a fabulous momento to hang on his wall of one of his favorite childhood movies!

They did a great job getting that display put together! One of the hardest parts about memorabilia like that is getting it properly displayed and preserved. Very creative! !DUO

An interesting DIY project, and one that complements a fond memory of a childhood movie. Nice job making a display frame!

I've read that one of the most labor-intensive parts of collecting is creating a proper and secure way to display and properly preserve the pieces.

I remember reading things that surprised me, and (in some cases) seemed a bit exaggerated. Like the case of a collector who placed his item on a stand in a fish tank, which was vacuumed out, and then filled with inert gas to prevent oxidation or any damage from exposure to air.

Seeking to learn a little more about the subject, I found that this type of display frame is classified as a 'shadow box frame'. You can read more about it at: https://artisticblossom.com/diy-art-frames/

You are right... It is a Shadow Box frame. Doing this project was a labor of love for his mom. She spent 6 hours on her day off from work putting this together for him.

He will enjoy having this on the wall for his friends to see.

Hi, how are you? It seems to me that the framing project looks very good. What I find very expensive is the cost that you put for a project like that. I imagine it has to do with economic relativities. But here that framing process must be for 50 dollars or less. I hope your grandson enjoys his umbrella, it must look interesting as a decoration.

The expense may be because there are not enough people here trained in framing. I have heard of some framing projects costing over $1000.

Hello, very nice day. It is an excellent business to undertake. Learning the technique and putting creativity into it, should pay very good dividends. I'm glad your daughter is in that business. Happy day.

Americans need to have certain skill sets to be able to emigrate to other countries. While most of the needed skills are health care related, being a framer is on the list! Seems it is a valuable skill.

Of course, I became a fan many many years ago with the "Wayne's World" movies. I think I even saw them at the cinema as a kid. Then he did "Austin Powers" and "Shrek" and he proved to be such an incredibly versatile actor!
