This spring I had the luck that I was able to take some pictures of a beautiful whinchat that came very close to me and started perching on a branch right in front of me. It is a beautiful bird and I wish more birds were like it and sit on a branch right in front of me. This behavior is usually only available during mating season when the birds are looking for mates. The whinchat is usually a seldom bird that can be found on open grassland and meadows.
Because I found this whinchat in the open grassland it is usually difficult to get close to the bird but I had luck that during the mating time they are not so afraid and show them in their beauty closeup. Next spring I hope I can get some nice pictures of some birds at Lake Neusiedler again. If the weather is fine I plan to do some birdwatching tours again there and at the Inn River.
