Desde que era muy pequeña, veía en películas y caricaturas lo adorables que eran los gatos. Me encantaban y soñaba con tener uno. Lamentablemente, mis padres no me dejaban tenerlo porque era muy pequeña y no sería responsable de una mascota realmente. Años después, una gatita callejera de la colonia tuvo a sus bebés en una casa, pero los dueños de la casa decidieron deshacerse de ellos tirándolos a la basura. Sin embargo, una vecina que trabajaba en una tienda vio a los gatitos en la caja esperando a que pasara el camión de la basura. Ella tomó la caja y la llevó a su tienda, y a cada persona que entraba a comprar les ofrecía gatitos para adoptar.

Cuando me enteré de la situación, fui a rogarle a mi mamá que por favor me dejara tener un gatito. La convencí diciéndole que los gatos ayudan con las plagas y alimañas. Ella aceptó con la condición de que el gatito tenía que ser macho y que yo me tenía que hacer cargo completamente de él. Cuando fui a la tienda, ni la vecina ni yo sabíamos cómo identificar si el gatito era macho o hembra. Así que elegí el que más me gustó y le aseguré a mi mamá que era macho. Resultó ser hembra. Esta es la historia de cómo llegó a mi vida mi primera gata, a la que llamé "Bo".  </p>

When I heard about the situation, I went to beg my mom to please let me have a kitten. I convinced her by telling her that cats help with pests and vermin. She agreed on the condition that the kitten had to be a male and that I had to take full responsibility for it. When I went to the store, neither the neighbor nor I knew how to identify whether the kitten was male or female. So I picked the one I liked best and assured my mom that it was male. It turned out to be female. This is the story of how my first cat, whom I named “Bo”, came into my life.</p>

<p dir="auto">Ese mismo año, hay que tener en cuenta que al menos aquí en Yucatán nos metieron en cuarentena por la pandemia de COVID-19 en la primera semana de marzo. Habían dicho que literalmente íbamos a tener que entrar en cuarentena (aislamiento de 40 días), y todos estábamos tranquilos hasta que luego alargaban el plazo cada vez más. La mayoría ya se estaba volviendo loca. Es muy difícil pasar todos los días encerrados, viendo solo a la misma gente todos los días si estás acostumbrado a la convivencia externa. La situación me entristeció mucho y me pasaba sola todos los días, encerrada en mi cuarto hablando con mi novio. Perdí a todos mis "amigos" de ese momento porque por alguna razón todos dejaron de hablarme, y yo sentía que quedé muy vulnerable en cuarentena. Todo me afectaba y todo el tiempo estaba irritable.

En agosto, uno de los tantos días que me asomaba solo a la terraza de mi casa, me di cuenta de que la misma gatita callejera madre de Bo y Sam ya traía otros bebés, igual en la casa de al lado, pero no pude hacer nada porque los gatitos estaban dentro de su patio y yo no podía pasar nada más así porque sí. El 14 de agosto recuerdo que a la casa de al lado llegaron unos albañiles que iban a construir su segundo piso a la vecina. Entre esos albañiles había un niño de no más de 13 años. El niño encontró a los gatitos y le preguntó a la vecina qué hacer con ellos. La vecina le dijo que los tirara o que hiciera lo que quisiera con ellos. Como solía asomarme a mi terraza, vi cuando el niño sacaba a los gatitos y le pregunté qué haría con ellos. Me dijo que se los llevaría a su casa porque la señora quería tirarlos a la basura y él no sería capaz de hacer eso. En eso, me ofreció uno de los tres gatitos y yo escogí uno de color negro con unos preciosos ojos verdes. Entré a mi casa con el gatito en manos y les dije a mis papás lo que me contó el niño de que la vecina quería tirar a la basura a los gatitos y que decidí agarrar a uno. Mis papás se molestaron porque no les pedí permiso, pero les dije que ese gatito era lo que yo necesitaba para no seguir deprimiéndome en cuarentena, y así fue. Ese gatito fue mi salvador para no quedar más loca. Le puse el nombre de "Forky" porque por alguna razón le encantaba revolcarse en la basura cada vez que barríamos.

The boy found the kittens and asked the neighbor what to do with them. The neighbor told him to throw them away or do whatever he wanted with them. As I used to peek out onto my terrace, I saw when the boy took out the kittens and asked him what he would do with them. He told me he would take them home because the lady wanted to throw them in the trash, and he wouldn't be able to do that. In that moment, he offered me one of the three kittens, and I chose a black one with beautiful green eyes. I entered my house with the kitten in my hands and told my parents what the boy had told me about the neighbor wanting to throw the kittens in the trash and that I had decided to take one. My parents were upset because I didn't ask for permission, but I told them that this kitten was what I needed to stop getting depressed during quarantine, and so it was. That kitten was my savior from going crazier. I named him "Forky" because for some reason he loved rolling around in the trash every time we swept.</p>

Éramos alrededor de 50 estudiantes listos para participar en la limpieza. Junto con mis amigos, nos equipamos y nos dirigimos hacia la costa, a solo unos metros del pueblo de Sisal. Durante las 2 horas de limpieza, encontramos una variedad de desechos como bolsas de plástico, latas, envases de vidrio, tubos de plástico y colillas de cigarro, entre otros. ¡Nuestro equipo logró recolectar 10 costales llenos de basura! Después de la limpieza, nos reunimos en el centro del pueblo y logramos entre todos los estudiantes acumular un total de 670 kg de basura. </p>

During the 2-hour cleanup, we found a variety of debris such as plastic bags, cans, glass containers, plastic tubes and cigarette butts, among others. Our team managed to collect 10 sacks full of garbage! After the cleanup, we gathered in the center of town and managed to accumulate a total of 670 kg of garbage.</p>

Acompañé mi desayuno con una  agua de horchata. Fue sin duda un merecido descanso después de todo el esfuerzo que pusimos mis amigos y yo.</p>

I accompanied my breakfast with a horchata water. It was definitely a well-deserved rest after all the effort my friends and I put in.</p>

Lo cual me sorprendió bastante, ya que solo había visto estas criaturas en videos. Como dato interesante, las cacerolas de mar son consideradas prácticamente como "dinosaurios del mar" debido a su antigüedad, remontándose a la prehistoria. A pesar de que ese en específico ya no estaba vivo, es increíble pensar que estos seres han sobrevivido tanto tiempo y aún los podemos encontrar en la actualidad.</p>

When I was a little girl my grandmother gave me my first bike and my dad tried to teach me, but it was a hopeless case because I didn't learn, I was scared because my dad would let me go and I didn't want to fall and hurt myself.

A year ago my boyfriend started to teach me with a lot of patience, it is worth mentioning that I threw him several times, hahaha, but I finally learned, and in December I asked Santa to bring me a bike for Christmas, and this is the one he brought me.

El mamey es una fruta muy rica, que se da en esta época del año, tiene una cascara gruesa y dura, por dentro es carnoso y con una gran semilla.

Los ingredientes para esta bebida son:

Un mamey
dos litros de agua
Azúcar al gusto

Preparación:

En una licuadora se pone el mamey sin cascara y sin la semilla, se agrega azúcar al gusto y un litro de agua, se licua por dos minutos hasta que este muy bien licuado.

Luego de licuar se vacía en una jarra y se le agrega el litro de agua restante, en caso de que le haga falta azúcar agregarle un poco más, por último agregar hielo, servir y disfrutar.

Me encantan estos días de voluntariado, cada vez que voy me duermo temprano para poder llegar a tiempo, en esta ocasión nos dirigimos a el poblado de Poxilá, ubicado en el municipio de Umán, en Yucatán.



Como en las veces anteriores fue un equipo multidisciplinario, la mayoría estudiantes de las carreras enfermería, medicina, rehabilitación, trabajo social y nutrición.

 Al llegar al poblado nos dedicaamos a instalar las mesas de traabajopara poder recibir a los habitantes quienes acudirían a recibir consulta médica y orientación nutricional.

Las compañeras de trabajo social recibian a la gente, y las pasaban con el médico para recibir su consulta médica, despues eran canalizados con nutrición, nosotros pesabamos y medíamos a los pacientes les hacíamos preguntas acerca de sus costumbres alimenticias para posteriormente adecuar un plan de alimentacion que les sea posible llevar a cabo.

Medimos y pesamos a niños y adultos para poder crear un plan personalizado de nutrición, con los bebés da un poco de trabajo ya que al acostarlos en la báscula se ponen inquietos y se mueven mucho, algunos hasta se ponen a llorar, pero tratamos de distraerlos para que no lloren, es un poco incomómodo por que no tengo mucho trato con niños, aun que si tego un hermanito, pero ya esta grande, ya no llora, jajaja.

Algunos de los pobladores nos comentaron que les es algo dificil encontrar alimentos como carnes, frutas o verduras frescos, a no ser que vayan a la otro pueblo a comprar por que ahí no cuentan con mercado.

En esta ocasión la maestra seleccionó a 8 personas de las diferentes disciplinas para realizar un visita domiciliaria, yo tenía muchas ganas de ir pero no fuí seleccionada, espero que para la siguiente si me elijan por que sería una experiencia más.

Al final fue una visita a Poxilá muy productiva, conocimos gente de la localidad, y brindamos un servicio que le hacía falta a la comunidad.

Su irreverencia no solo la lleva en las canciones, sino también en su forma de vestir, los outfit que ha mostrado en las diferentes galas o sesiones de fotos hablan de una persona libre de prejuicios y la aceptación que les da a las personas, habla de que nadie puede dictar lo que debes usar en lo que refiere a moda, que la ropa no tiene genero.

Les voy a confesar que si me daba un poco de miedo ya que voy iniciando la carrera, pero aun así me anime a ir con amigos de mi grupo, ya que no era obligatorio, quise ir por que quería ver de cerca las cosas que hacen en las visitas a comunidades.

Fueron varios días viajando a diferentes comunidades del estado, unas mas lejanas que otras, en las que muchas personas aun son maya hablantes, pero eso no fue impedimento ya que llevábamos traductor que nos enseñó algunas palabras básicas para poder comunicarnos.

Éramos un grupo multidisciplinario de médicos, enfermeras, nutriólogos y trabajadores sociales así como estudiantes de cada rama.

Estos viajes además de ayudar a la comunidad brindando el servicio de salud nos ayuda a nosotros como estudiantes a crecer en conocimientos, así como a aprender a relacionarnos con la gente en cuanto a la atención, fueron varias las comunidades, ente ellas esta San Rafael Maxcanú, Mayapan, etc

El último día no pudieron asistir las estudiantes de enfermería por lo que estuvimos apoyando a los médicos a tomar signos vitales y tomar  las medidas de antropometría de la gente,  cabe mencionar que el primer día no enseñaron las enfermeras a realizarlo.

Hello to all the hive community, in today's post I will show you how to set up your planting bed and give you a few tips on how to take care of your plants and learn the importance of setting up the bed.

The materials we will need are:
- A wooden box (here in Mexico it is known as a huacal).
- Black bag
- Black soil
- Dry leaves
- Green leaves
- Compost of your choice (in my previous post I taught you how to make compost, which is a type of organic fertilizer).

To start with our bedding, we will put the black bag in the wooden box and make holes in the bag so that it can filter the water.
Then we can start to assemble our bed by putting a layer of dry leaves, followed by the layer of green leaves, we put the compost of our preference, in my case I used the compost that I showed you in my previous post; we put the last layer which will be black soil, and our bed would be ready to plant.

Hola a toda la comunidad de hive, en el post de hoy les enseñare a armar su cama para la siembra y les dare unos cuantos consejos de como cuidar nuestras plantas y aprenderemos la importancia de armar la cama.

Los materiales que necesitaremos son:
•	Una caja de madera (aquí en México se le conoce como huacal)
•	Bolsa negra
•	Tierra negra
•	Hojas secas
•	Hojas verdes
•	Abono de tu preferencia (en mi post anterior te enseñé a hacer la composta que es un tipo de abono orgánico)

Para empezar con nuestra cama, pondremos la bolsa negra en el huacal y le hacemos orificios a la bolsa para que pueda filtrar el agua.
Después ya podemos empezar a armar nuestra cama poniendo una capa de hojas secas, seguido de la capa de hojas verdes, ponemos el abono de nuestra preferencia, en mi caso yo use la composta que les enseñe en mi post anterior; ponemos la última capa que será de tierra negra, y ya estaría lista nuestra cama para sembrar.

When I made my bed was to plant radish so I made it with approximately 30 cm deep so that they could grow freely their roots.
 All layers have an important function in the bed, the layer of dry leaves gives our bed a good drainage capacity retaining sufficient moisture without rotting our planting, The layer of green matter provides nitrogen to the soil and promotes plant growth, and the compost provides the macronutrients and micronutrients it contains, in my case I used my compost which was mostly rich in potassium, phosphorus, nitrogen and calcium.
When I made my bed I decided to make it in a flower bed since I thought that I would not need to be able to move the bed, however, some time later I moved house and I had to transplant my radishes to a bucket to take them with me, if I had made the bed from the beginning in the wooden box as I advise you, I would not have had the need to transplant since it is easy to move from one place to another.

Cuando yo hice  mi cama fue para sembrar rábano entonces la hice con aproximadamente 30 cm de profundidad para que pudieran crecer con libertad sus raíces. 
Todas las capas tienen una función importante en la cama, la capa de hojas secas le aporta a nuestra cama una buena capacidad de drenaje reteniendo la humedad suficiente sin podrir nuestra siembra, la capa de materia verde le aporta nitrógeno a la tierra y fomenta el crecimiento de las plantas, y el abono le aporta los macronutrientes y micronutrientes que contenga, en mi caso use mi composta que más que nada era rica en potasio, fosforo, nitrógeno y calcio.
Al hacer mi cama decidí hacerla en un arriate puesto que pensé que no necesitaría poder cambiar de lugar la cama, sin embargo, tiempo después me cambie de casa y tuve que trasplantar mis rábanos a una cubeta para llevarlos conmigo, si yo desde un principio hubiera realizado la cama en el huacal como les aconsejo, no habría tenido la necesidad de trasplantar ya que así es fácil de trasladar de un lugar a otro.

As a gift in today's post I will leave you some recipes that will probably be useful for your plants.

I.	Rooting agent based on lentils: 

To prepare this one we are going to need 1 cup of lentils, 4 cups of water, a container, a dark cloth and the blender.
- Pour 1 cup of lentils and 4 cups of water in a bowl and cover with a dark cloth and let it soak for 8 hours. 
- Strain the water and store it in the refrigerator. 
- Let the lentils soak for 1 hour. 
- Pour the water back into the lentils. 
*Repeat this process for 4 days or until the lentils germinate. 
- Blend the lentils together with the water. 
- Strain it and to use it we have to dilute 1 part of the concentrate in 10 parts of water. 

Lentils have a high concentration of a substance called auxin which is a plant hormone that when we make this preparation and put it in our plants naturally stimulates root growth.

Como regalo en el post de hoy les dejare unas recetas que probablemente les sirvan para sus plantas.

I.	Enraízante a base de lentejas: 

Para preparar este vamos a necesitar 1 taza de lentejas, 4 tazas de agua, un recipiente, un trapo oscuro y la licuadora.
•	Echamos 1 taza de lentejas y 4 tazas de agua en un recipiente y cubrimos con un trapo oscuro y dejamos remojar durante 8 horas. 
•	Colamos el agua y la guardamos en el refrigerador. 
•	Dejamos reposar las lentejas húmedas por 1 hora. 
•	Volvemos a echarle el agua. 
*Este proceso se repite por 4 días o hasta que las lentejas germinen. 
•	Licuar las lentejas junto con el agua. 
•	 Se cuela y para utilizarlo tenemos que diluir 1 parte del concentrado en 10 de agua. 

Las lentejas tienen alta concentración de una sustancia llamada auxina que es una hormona vegetal que al hacer este preparado y ponerlo en nuestras plantas estimula de manera natural el crecimiento de las raíces.

II. Repellent and pesticide:

The materials we need are 3 habanero peppers, a head of garlic, ¼ of glycerin soap, kitchen grater,700ml of water and a container.
- You will need to grind 3 habanero chiles along with a head of garlic.
- Grate the 1/4 of glycerin soap with a kitchen grater.
- Mix the combination of chili and garlic together with the soap in a bowl with water for 2 minutes.
- Finally, strain all the mixture and put the result in a container where it will be stored until it is used. 

The chili helps us to repel aphids and white flies because of its acidity, the garlic also repels aphids and ants, and the soap repels caterpillars and spider mites, these are the most common pests in urban orchards or gardens.

II.	Repelente y plaguicida:

Los materiales que necesitamos son 3 chiles habaneros, una cabeza de ajo, ¼ de jabón de glicerina, rallador de cocina,700ml de agua y un recipiente.

•	Deberán moler 3 chiles habaneros junto con una cabeza de ajo.
•	Rallamos el 1/4  de jabón de glicerina con un rallador de cocina.
•	Se deberán mezclar tanto la combinación de chile con ajo junto con el jabón en un recipiente con agua por 2min.
•	Por último, se colará toda la mezcla y el resultado se pondrá en un recipiente donde quedará almacenado hasta darle uso. 

El chile nos ayuda a repeler por su acides a los pulgones y mosca blanca, el ajo también ahuyenta al pulgón y a las hormigas, y el jabón repele a las orugas y a la araña roja, estas son las plagas mas comunes en huertos urbanos o jardines.

III.	How to provide macronutrients:
- If you see that your plants stop growing, it is probably due to a nitrogen deficit, what you can do is to take some lettuce leaves, blend them with water and then strain it and give that water to your plants, lettuce is rich in nitrogen, if you don't have lettuce you can also do it with grass.

- If the leaves of your plant wilt at the bottom, it may be due to lack of phosphorus, what you can do is crush and liquefy a few bones to make a bone meal, this will provide the plant with phosphorus, calcium and nitrogen.

III.	Como aportar macronutrientes:

•	Si ves que tus plantas dejan de crecer, probablemente sea por un déficit de nitrógeno, lo que puedes hacer es agarrar unas cuantas hojas de lechuga, las licuas con agua y después se cuela y esa agua se la darás a tus plantas, la lechuga es rica en nitrógeno, si no tienes lechuga también lo puedes hacer con pasto.

•	Si a tu planta se le están marchitando las hojitas de abajo tal vez sea por falta de fosforo, lo que puedes hacer es triturar y licuar unos cuantos huesos para así hacer una harina de huesos, esta le aporta a la planta fosforo, calcio y nitrógeno.

Actualmente me encuentro cursando mi ultimo año de preparatoria y tomo clases de horticultura, este post esta inspirado en un proyecto que realicé en la escuela el cual me gusto mucho y les quiero compartir.

Comenzaré explicando que es para mi la composta, la composta es una manera de aprovechar toda la basura orgánica que generamos día a día, descomponiéndose para después proporcionarle todos estos minerales y nutrientes a nuestros futuros cultivos.
<p>

Para hacer nuestra composta necesitamos:
Hojas secas, hojas verdes, toda la materia orgánica que podamos conseguir (cáscara de fruta, verduras, servilletas pero sin tinta, residuos de café de la cafetera pero no en exceso, cáscara de huevo), tierra sin abonar, una bolsa negra y un recipiente para armar la composta.
<p>

Para empezar a hacer la composta necesitamos hacerle unos orificios al recipiente y a la bolsa negra para que pueda filtrar el agua y no se estanque. Comenzaremos poniendo una capa de aproximadamente 5cm de hojas secas, humedecemos esa capa con agua, después ponemos una capa hojas verdes y volvemos a humedecer, agregamos toda la materia orgánica que juntamos y humedecemos, ponemos una ultima capa que va a ser de tierra, humedecemos, cerramos la bolsa y lo dejamos así durante dos días. Pasados estos dos días tenemos que humedecerla un día si y el otro no y se revuelve igual.
<p>

La capa de materia seca aporta un buen drenaje y retiene humedad suficiente pero no en exceso, la capa de materia verde  más que nada aporta el macro nutriente de nitrógeno a la tierra, y la materia orgánica brinda el mayor aporte de macro nutrientes ya que nos aporta nitrógeno, fósforo(que sirve para fomentar el crecimiento de las raíces, la floración y maduración), potasio(fortalece en general toda la planta, hace que crezcan las raíces, crea resistencia contra enfermedades), calcio, magnesio y azufre (que sirve para subir el pH del suelo y bajar la acidez).
<p>

Después de unos 6 meses aproximadamente ya debería haberse descompuesto por completo (si se quiere acelerar el tiempo de descomposición le podemos agregar lombrices y ahora seria un humus de lombriz, tiene la misma función que la composta y su única diferencia es que se descompone mas rápido) y ahora vamos a colar nuestra composta con una malla y ya estaría lista para agregársela a nuestros cultivos.
<p>

La materia orgánica que yo le puse a mi composta le aporta:
CÁSCARA DE MANZANA: vitamina e, fósforo y potasio
CÁSCARA DE HUEVO: aporta calcio
LECHUGA: fósforo, hierro, calcio, potasio, vitamina c
TOMATE: fósforo, potasio, magnesio, manganeso vitaminas (A, B1, B3, B6, C, E, K)
CÁSCARA DE PLÁTANO: potasio
RESTOS DE PEPINO: fósforo
RESIDUOS DE CAFÉ: nitrógeno, fósforo y potasio

Lo que les recomiendo si lo van a hacer es que no dejen la composta afuera con el sol directo pero tampoco en un lugar cerrado porque es posible que suelte olores por la descomposición, se tiene que humedecer y revolver durante los 6 meses intercalando los días, unos días antes de colar la composta dejamos de humedecer, tanto a la capa verde como la de materia orgánica no hay que ponerle muchos cítricos porque eso puede hacer acida nuestra composta y no apta par todas las plantas, si la composta queda muy húmeda pueden triturar un poco de carbón, mezclarlo y dejamos de humedecer.
