It’s no news that health is wealth. And very much assured that the more you put your health as a priority, the better your well-being. However, it is said that money is surely a way to live a good life. But when your health is imbalanced or deteriorated, then money at that point might seem much more useless than you could ever think of.

I have always had my thoughts on “what if I have enough money that can surely escape me from sickness and diseases”. Yeah. That's true; money can protect one from illnesses and diseases only when it is put to proper use, preventing every possible means of contracting the disease. 

A clean environment, good medicals and check-ups, good food at the right time, vegetables, exercises, and many more activities that could aid a good living. If the reverse is the case, then I can say it will be so difficult to overcome whatever the ailment is, even if your money keeps overflowing.

### Striking a balance between my mental and physical health. 

Both mental and physical well-being are of priority, and they surely have an important role to play in our lives. You can’t expect to be physically balanced when you are deficient in your mental health, and you can’t expect to be mentally balanced when you are physically deficient. Both have to work hand in hand. 

There are times when you see some people physically okay, but at times, they just act strangely. Maybe you see someone talking to themselves, or maybe doing things that are unexpected of a normal person. It's crystal clear that they are having metal instability. 

And for those who are showing some reactions way different from the normal actions of humans, maybe having some heavy pains in some part of their body, weaknesses, and a lot more. Then I would say they are physically unstable. 

I watched a movie titled “Cells at Work” and from the movie, I realised that the brain and the cells in our body surely work hand in hand. Though the brain remains the mastermind, and once it's affected, then the whole system is affected too

***There are some activities I make sure I keep to so as to maintain a stable health, both physically and mentally.***

**Good sleep:** Most times, I make sure I give myself enough time to sleep. Sleeping is said to be one way to relax the brain from too much stress. The moment I begin to find it difficult to sleep, I know that there is something wrong with me mentally. 

**Walking:** I don't have much time for exercising my body. But I think there should be some other way out. So I have practiced walking as my way of exercise, and it has proved effective over time.

**Health check-up:** most times, we can't know when our health is deteriorating. We only know when it's already deteriorated, and we see symptoms or abnormal signs before we can take it seriously. With time, I have continued to practice checking my blood pressure consistently and also having some health tests. 

**Eat good food:** All of these things I know will be so difficult when you don't have enough money. But if you have money, I will advise you to eat well. Your body will surely reflect what you take in.

Greetings, friends! This September, our wonderful #Ladies of Hive community is celebrating its **Fifth Anniversary**, and I am particularly proud to belong to the team of female voices on Hive, where gentlemen are also welcome and always participate. This is an inclusive space for everyone from all corners of the platform.

In my case, I have been with the Hive for two years now, and the same amount of time has passed in terms of growth, in which many women, with the topics developed in each contest and their reflections, as I have expressed in other writings, capture their knowledge and lived experiences in those words. We are more than a blog: we are a community where we have been learning about self-esteem, facing life's problems, and much more.

<h4>A gift of self-esteem</h4>

We often only hear or read about self-esteem. The information is undoubtedly important, but I believe that we rarely put it into practice, as it requires daily effort despite the difficulties, so we need to work on ourselves, on our inner selves.

It is not surprising that we sometimes have difficulties with self-esteem, because when we express our perceptions, we are told that we do not understand reality. When we put our values first, we are reproached for not understanding the way the world works.

So my self-esteem is constantly under attack, but it is truly mine when I get to its essence. I have to stop thinking ‘if only I had been’, because we will not achieve change overnight. 

<h4>I can always try to get closer to people who give me good vibes</h4>

I believe that as content creators, we have learned that we can even view this community as one of those spaces of inspiration that can greatly assist us in reorganising our ideas, values, meditation, and personal growth. In particular, I enjoy reading and searching the internet for things that nourish me, and it has truly given me a great deal of satisfaction.

I can always try to get closer to people who give me good vibes, as well as learn to boost my self-esteem, for example, by changing the limiting beliefs we have about ourselves, switching to “proactive” language, accepting that we are a combination of virtues and flaws, understanding that perfection does not exist, cancelling out the “ideal self” and loving the “real self”.

It is up to us as individuals to find our focus, because in these topics and reflections, we are simply suggesting and guiding, and each person takes what suits them best. So writing and reading are undoubtedly very good, because reading educates us and helps us expand our vocabulary.


Walking through life like a beautiful lady and solving problems as they arise, being grateful for the good things and even if I am not satisfied with what I cannot change, accepting my dark side and my positive side, trying to push away the bad so that the good comes closer to me, with respect for myself and others, seeing each person as valuable and worthy of love.

I think that the best gift on this fifth anniversary of #DamasdelaColmena, and every day of the year, will be the one we give ourselves: loving ourselves as we love the most precious thing God could have left on the face of the earth, because we cannot and should not expect someone from outside to show us how valuable we are, but we can and must begin the process that comes from within, which allows us to love ourselves and others.

My gratitude goes out to each and every one of the people who make up this beautiful community, who are here to support and encourage each other and learn from one another, and may there be many more years to celebrate together.

Saludos amigos, en este mes de Septiembre nuestra maravillosa comunidad de #LadiesofHive está arribando a su **Aniversario #5** y particularmente me siento orgullosa de pertenecer al equipo de voces femeninas en Hive, donde por cierto también participan los caballeros y son siempre bienvenidos. Este es un espacio inclusivo para todas las personas de todos los rincones de la plataforma.

En mi caso, ya tengo dos años en la Colmena y  los mismos que atrás han quedado de crecimiento, en el que muchas mujeres con los temas desarrollados en cada concurso, con las reflexiones, como lo he expresado en otros escritos, plasman en esas letras su conocimiento y experiencias vividas, somos más que un blog: somos una comunidad donde hemos ido aprendido sobre autoestima, a enfrentar problemas de la vida y mucho más.


<h4>Un regalo de Autoestima</h4>

Muchas veces sólo escuchamos o leemos sobre la autoestima, sin duda la información es importante, pero yo creo que  muy pocas veces la ponemos en práctica, ya que requiere un esfuerzo diario a pesar de las dificultades, así que es necesario trabajar en nosotras, en nuestro interior.

No es de extrañar que a veces tengamos dificultades con la autoestima, pues cuando manifestamos nuestras percepciones, se nos dice que no entendemos la realidad. Cuando ponemos por delante nuestros valores, se nos reprocha que no entendemos la manera en que funciona el mundo.

Así que mi autoestima es constantemente atacada, pero es realmente mía cuando llego a su esencia. Dejando de pensar “si yo hubiera sido”, porque de la noche a la mañana no lograremos un cambio, la vida es de paso a paso, día a día y eso no puedo olvidarlo.

<h4>Siempre puedo intentar acercarme a las personas que me aportan buenas vibraciones</h4>

Creo que como creadores de contenidos, hemos aprendido que esta comunidad incluso la podemos tomar como uno de esos espacios de inspiración, que pueden ayudarme mucho en reorganizar nuestras ideas, los valores,  la meditación y el crecimiento personal. En particular, me gusta leer y buscar en internet cosas que me nutran y la verdad que me ha dado mucha satisfacción.

Siempre puedo intentar acercarme a las personas que me aportan buenas vibraciones, así como aprender a reforzar la autoestima, por ejemplo,  modificar las creencias limitantes que tenemos sobre nosotras mismas, cambiando el lenguaje por uno “proactivo”, aceptando que somos un conjunto de virtudes y defectos, entendiendo que la perfección no existe, anulando al "yo ideal" y amando al "yo real".

<h4>Iniciar el proceso que viene de nuestro interior</h4>

Está en nosotras como personas, buscar el enfoque, porque en los temas y reflexiones lo que hacemos es sugerir, orientar y cada quien toma lo que mejor se le acomode, así que escribir y leer es muy bueno, no hay duda, porque la lectura nos instruye, nos ayuda a ampliar nuestro vocabulario.


Caminar por la vida como una bella dama e ir solucionando los problemas a medida que lleguen, agradecer por las cosas buenas e incluso si no me siento satisfecha con lo que no puedo cambiar, aceptando mi lado oscuro y mi lado positivo, intentando alejar lo malo, para que lo bueno se me acerque, con el respeto por mí mismo y por los demás, viendo a cada persona valiosa y digna de amor.

Pienso que el mejor regalo en este quinto Aniversario de #DamasdelaColmena y de todos los días del año, será el que nos demos así mismas: amándonos como se ama lo más precioso que Dios haya podido dejar sobre la faz de la tierra, pues no podemos ni debemos esperar que alguien desde afuera nos demuestre qué tan valiosas somos, pero si podemos y debemos iniciar el proceso que viene de nuestro interior, que nos permite amarnos y amar a otros.

Mi reconocimiento a cada una de las personas que hacen vida en esta hermosa comunidad, que estamos aquí para apoyarnos, animarnos y aprender unos de otros y que sean muchos años más para celebrar juntos.

If I could bring one special contribution to our anniversary table, I would actually bring a whole Nigerian feast that represents everything I love about sharing meals with family.
I am talking about classic Nigerian small chops for those who want something light and easy to enjoy while mingling and chatting. Think perfectly seasoned meat pies, crispy spring rolls, spicy chicken wings, and those little samosas that disappear as soon as you put them out 😋

She would let me help sometimes, teaching me the technique. "Not too hard, not too soft, find the rhythm, feel the yam telling you when it's ready."

Those were some of the most precious moments we shared together.

My mother didn't just teach me recipes, she taught me that food is love made visible. ## Why This Means Everything to Me

Bringing these dishes to our anniversary celebration wouldn't just be about contributing food, it would be about honoring my mother's memory and sharing the traditions she worked so hard to pass down to me. Every time I prepare these dishes, I feel her presence with me in the kitchen. I hear her voice guiding me, reminding me of little techniques and secrets she taught me.

When I am grinding the Egusi seeds, I remember her hands showing mine the right motion. When I am checking if the pounded yam is smooth enough, I use the standards she set. When I am arranging the small chops on the serving tray, I try to make them as beautiful as she always did.

The love and care that goes into preparing these dishes are honestly a testament to two things:
1) The deep love and appreciation I have for this amazing group we are celebrating and

2) The endless gratitude I have for my mother who gave me these gifts. She taught me that when you cook for people you care about, you are not just feeding them, you are showing them they are valued, they are loved, and they are worth your very best effort.

## More Than Just Food

These dishes represent so much more than just a meal. They represent tradition, family, love, memory, and connection. When people taste my mother's recipes, they are getting a piece of my family's story, a piece of Nigerian culture and a piece of my heart.

I love imagining all of us gathered around the anniversary table, sharing these foods that mean so much to me, creating new memories while honoring old ones. I picture people trying pounded yam for the first time and discovering how amazing it tastes with Egusi soup. I see distinguish ladies laughing over palm wine and enjoying the variety of small chops.

But most of all, I imagine my mother looking down and smiling, knowing that her recipes are still bringing people together, still creating joy and still carrying forward the love she put into teaching them to me.

Food has this incredible power to connect us across time, across cultures, and across differences. When we share a meal, we are sharing part of ourselves. And these dishes? They are some of the most precious parts of who I am.

Health has been defined by the World Health Organization (W.H.O.) to mean…


>*A state of physical, mental, social and emotional well-being*.


From this definition, it is clearly seen that health covers all aspects of our lives, even the spiritual aspect of our lives as well. So there is nothing like focusing on physical health while neglecting all other aspects of health. Frankly, I am of the opinion that physical health is the least aspect to be worried about when compared to other aspects of health.

*Let me break down the definition and make my point clearer*...


**Health is a state of physical well-being**.


This talks about our external and obviously tangible part of our body. Because the physical is easily  seen and is tangible, it is very easy to take care of it through *regular exercising*, *eating good nourishing foods*, *having enough sleep time and leisure*, *visiting the doctor regularly* and so on.


All these that I mentioned above if carried out judiciously, will surely keep the physical aspect of our body in great health and shape.


**Health is a state of  social well-being**.


This also has to do with the physical but this aspect is intangible. It has to do with our associations and relationships garnered over time. One is considered socially healthy when he or she is doing well on a social parameter. This means that such a person is surrounded by friends, family members, well wishers and relatives that love him or her and they all have a good rapport flowing through their bond. There is no hostility whatsoever in their social bond.


**Health is a state of mental and emotional well-being**.


I decided to merge these two aspects because I feel that they go hand-in-hand. These are the unseen and intangible aspects of our  health.  Our minds have a great role to play and are very influential on how it operates. It is very able to influence and control all other aspects of our health.


Now because these aspects are unseen, there is no physical way of taking care of them. You obviously cannot apply *iodine to your mind* when under stress nor can you give a tangible gift to your emotions to stabilize it.

When the mental health is good, our emotions will be good and this will also influence our physical health, keeping us fit and going and later, it translates to our social environment, making us live peaceably with others around us.


As a matter of fact, doctors have discovered that a patient's mind has a huge role to play in that patient's well-being. If a sick  patient constantly gets reassured that they will get well, the patient's mind imagines them being well and hearty and soon, that imagination translates into a recuperative energy that causes the physical body to get well.


This is why most doctors do not give their diagnosis in front of the patient; rather, they do so discreetly with a family member and urge the family member (s) to be positive while they cone up with a solution.


Most doctors have even begun using comedy skits as a therapy for curing their patient's mental health because they understand the correlation between the mental and the physical. It is whatever has been played out by the mental that is revealed in the physical body.

So with this, paying attention to our mental health as well as our physical health is Paramount. Both cannot be differentiated.

For a healthy mental health, my humble advice is to *have a  positive outlook at life* and *stay away from stressors*. Add these to the other physical tips i listed above  and  you will see the  good  it does to our health as it stabilizes our emotions and regulates the physical too.

Hello DIYHub family! Trust we’re all doing great and taking steps toward a fruitful week. Today, I’m excited to share a simple but rewarding DIY hack: how I turned a pile of old candle pieces, yes, what many would call trash into soothing scented candles.

The Backstory 

A few days ago, while decluttering my room, I stumbled on a big nylon bag filled with candle pieces. Funny enough, I had been storing them for over a year, waiting for the “right” time to reuse them.

Now, before you wonder how I gathered so many scraps, here’s the gist: in 2023, my entire community in Nigeria was without power for almost a year because of a faulty transformer. We relied heavily on candles, rechargeable lamps, and sometimes a generator. That’s how my candle stash grew!

Instead of throwing them away, I finally decided to recycle them into something beautiful. And guess what? With just five simple steps, you can do the same!

What You’ll Need 🕯️

Leftover candle pieces

Four new candles (for their wicks)

Fragrance (perfume, essential oil, or spice like cloves)

A glass tumbler (or any heat-safe container)

Sticks and pegs

Step 1: Melt the Wax

Place your candle pieces into a pot. Add the new candles as well—you’ll need their wicks later. (If you already have spare wicks, skip adding new candles.)

Step 2: Use Low Heat

Melt everything over low flame. I used a gas burner, but if your fire can’t be adjusted, use the double boiler method: put water in a larger pot, bring it to a boil, then place your smaller pot with the candle pieces inside. Stir gently until fully melted.

Step 3: Add Color & Fragrance

Once melted, the wax should look smooth and watery. For color, I added some blue candles, which gave me a lovely sea-blue shade. For fragrance, I mixed in perfume and a few cloves. (Note: the melted wax may bubble when you add perfume—that’s normal.)

Step 4: Prep Your Wick & Glass

Using a stick, pull out the wicks from your melted new candles. Clean and dry your glass tumbler, then place a wick at the center. Hold it in place by laying two sticks across the glass top and clipping them together with a peg. Carefully pour the melted wax into the glass while keeping the wick steady. (I was nervous the glass would break, lol, but it didn’t!)

Step 5: Let It Set

Leave the candle to cool. I let mine sit overnight. Halfway through, I noticed a hollow forming in the middle, so I melted a bit more wax and filled it up. By morning, I had two beautiful homemade scented candles. The fragrance when they burn? Absolutely soothing!

And that’s it! Instead of tossing those candle scraps, you can give them a second life and make your space cozy at the same time.

Stop Throwing Your Used Candle Pieces Away, Instead Do This.. 

Beret is one of those accessories that can just *elevate your outfit*. That small round cap has a way of making you look classy, stylish, or even artsy. Funny thing is, most people think sewing a beret is plenty work. But to be honest, it’s one of the easiest things you can make with fabric.  

I actually made this one for my sister, and let me just say her smile that day was enough payment. She rocked it and was even posing as if she’s in Paris. 😂

### Materials needed
- Your fabric (I used denim)  
- Scissors  
- Measuring tape  
- Sewing machine   
- Chalk

### Step 1: Cutting the Fabric  
For a beret, you only need three main parts:  

1. Big Circle: this is the crown, the round top of the beret.  
2. Doughnut Shape: a big circle with a smaller circle cut out inside (this creates the opening for your head).  
3. Band: a straight strip of fabric that’ll wrap around your head.

### Step 2: Measurements to Cut  
My sister’s head circumference is **21.5 inches**. Here’s how I broke it down:  

- Head Opening (inner hole):  
  To get the diameter of the inner circle, divide the head size by 3.14 (π).  
  So, 21.5 ÷ 3.14 ≈ **6.85 inches (about 7")** across.  
  That means the small circle in the middle should be about 7 inches wide.  

- Crown (big circle on top):  
  I wanted a slightly fuller beret look, so I made the big circle around **12 inches across**.  
  

- Band strip:  
  Band length = head size (21.5") + seam allowance (1") = 22.5 inches long.  
  Band width = 2 inches

### Step 3: Start Joining the Pieces  
Place the doughnut piece on the big circle, right sides facing each other. Pin it well so it doesn’t shift. Then sew all around the outer edge.

### Step 4: Prepare and Attach the Band  
Cut your strip, sew the ends together to form a ring, then attach it to the head opening. Make sure it matches up smoothly.

### Step 5: Flip It & Do Finishing  
Once the band is attached, flip the fabric inside out to hide the seams. Press it gently with an iron for that neat look.

Hello Ladies,
Honestly? I think I would probably last about 3-4 days max in a real survival situation, and that is me being optimistic. As a mom of three, I am used to handling chaos and staying calm under pressure, that definitely counts for something. When you have dealt with a toddler having a meltdown in the grocery store while your twins are trying to escape their stroller, you learn to think fast and stay focused. Plus being a healthcare worker means I know basic first aid and how to stay level headed in emergencies. I have seen people in crisis situations, and I know how important it is to keep your cool. But let's be real here, I am more comfortable in my mini pharmacy than out in the wilderness 🤣 I can barely keep my plants alive sometimes and they literally just need water and sunlight 😅. The thought of having to hunt for food or build shelter from scratch? That is terrifying. I think my biggest strengths would be: Staying calm under pressure (years of dealing with crying twins at 3:00am taught me patience I never knew I had)

My biggest weaknesses? Oh, where do I start! I have never actually built a fire from scratch, and I am pretty sure my idea of "roughing it" is a hotel without room service. I don't know which plants are safe to eat, I have never caught a fish with my bare hands, and the closest I have come to sleeping outdoors was camping in my backyard with the kids and we still went inside when it got too cold. Water would probably be my biggest challenge. I know you are supposed to find running water and boil it, but what if there is no water source nearby? What if I can't get a fire going? These are the things that keep me up at night just thinking about it.The mental game would honestly be the hardest part for me. I am used to being busy all day, taking care of my family, running my business, helping patients in my healthcare work. Being alone with just my thoughts and the pressure of survival? That would mess with my head big time.
I would probably spend day one panicking and trying to remember everything I have seen on those survival shows my husband loves watching.

Day two would be me attempting to put those TV tricks into practice and failing miserably.

By day three, I would definitely be talking to myself just to stay sane, probably having full conversations with imaginary people 🤣

The funny thing is, in my daily life I feel pretty capable. I can handle medical emergencies, solve business problems, manage three kids, and still have energy for my crafting projects. But put me in the middle of nowhere with no modern conveniences? I would be lost. I think the social aspect would be huge for me too. I am someone who draws energy from helping others and being around people. The isolation would probably break me down faster than the physical challenges. At least if I was with other people, we could support each other and divide up the survival tasks.

**A Little About My Journey Here**

I actually joined Hive a while back, but life had other plans. After my first introductory post about two years ago, things got pretty challenging. I was still figuring out how this blockchain world works when I lost my phone and, unfortunately, my account keys along with it. Getting a new phone was one thing, but accessing my old account? That became impossible.

So here I am with a fresh start and a new account 💃 This time, I have kept my keys super secure and taken my time to understand more about this incredible blockchain. I am still learning, but I feel ready to dive in with the little knowledge I have gained. Special thanks to @chatsunny @adeife2 and @temmylade who has been incredibly helpful in getting me started on this journey.

I am a proud mother of three beautiful children, my firstborn daughter who lights up my world, and a wonderful set of twins who keep me on my toes. I am happily married to my amazing husband, and together we are building a beautiful life.

Professionally, I am a certified community health worker. I graduated from Kwara State College of Health Technology where I studied community health. Being in healthcare has always been my passion because I love helping people and making a difference in their lives.

**What Keeps Me Busy**

During my job search journey, I discovered that many opportunities weren't paying enough and demanded so much time that I barely had moments for my family. That's when I decided to create my own path.

I now run a mini chemist  business, which gives me the flexibility to spend quality time with my children while building something meaningful. It's been an amazing journey of growth and learning.

But that is not all, I am also a fashion designer and DIY craft maker. There is something magical about creating beautiful things with your hands and seeing people light up when they wear or use what you have made.

**The Things That Make Me Happy**

I am a Christian, and my faith guides everything I do. I absolutely love cooking, there's something therapeutic about creating delicious meals for the people you love. I am always researching new recipes and techniques because learning never stops.

I am also an adventure lover who enjoys exploring nature, whether it's a simple walk in the park or discovering new places, I find peace and inspiration in the natural world around us.

I joined Hive because I am always seeking new knowledge and opportunities to grow. This community seems like the perfect place to share my experiences, learn from others, and build meaningful connections with people from all walks of life.
