> #deutsch Ich habe noch ein paar mehr Aufnahmen von interessanten Spiegelungen und Reflexionen. Aufgenommen habe ich die meisten in Gehdistanz um meinen  Wohnort (Zürich Oerlikon, Schweiz). Aber auch bei meinen Inspektionen und Rundgängen in den modernen Quartieren in anderen europäischen Städten, auf der Jagd nach spannenden Ansichten moderner Architektur. 
Da mich aber auch wunder nimmt, wer die kurzen Texte und Erklärungen zu meinen Bildern auch liest, habe ich noch ein paar andere, nicht meine Fotos betreffende Fragen in meinem Kopf. Zum Beispiel bin ich auf der Suche nach einem neuen Smartphone, welches sich gut als Kameraersatz/Kamera-Alternative eignet. Natürlich sollte es über eine gute Kamera verfügen, mit der super Aufnahmen bei Tag und bei Nacht gemacht werden können. Auch Makroaufnahmen sollten einwandfrei erstellt werden können. Desweiteren wäre ich froh, wenn der intern Speicher über mindestens 512 GB verfügt und der Smartphonespeicher mit einer Speicherkarte ergänzt werden kann. Hat jemand einen Rat?
Und weiss jemand wo ich Informationen über das in der Hive Engine inkludierte  GROWTH Token finden kann?

But I also took them during my inspections and tours of modern neighbourhoods in other European cities, on the hunt for exciting views of modern architecture. 
But since I'm also curious to know who reads the short texts and explanations accompanying my pictures, I have a few other questions in my head that are not related to my photos. For example, I'm looking for a new smartphone that would be a good replacement/alternative to a camera. Of course, it should have a good camera that can take great pictures day and night. It should also be able to take flawless macro shots. Furthermore, I would be happy if it had at least 512 GB of internal memory and if the smartphone memory could be supplemented with a memory card. Does anyone have any advice?
And does anyone know where I can find information about the GROWTH token included in the Hive Engine?

Pero también durante mis inspecciones y recorridos por los barrios modernos de otras ciudades europeas, en busca de vistas interesantes de la arquitectura moderna. 
Sin embargo, como también me pregunto quién lee los breves textos y explicaciones que acompañan a mis imágenes, tengo en mente algunas otras preguntas que no tienen que ver con mis fotos. Por ejemplo, estoy buscando un nuevo smartphone que sirva como sustituto o alternativa a una cámara. Por supuesto, debe tener una buena cámara con la que se puedan hacer excelentes fotos tanto de día como de noche. También debería poder hacer fotos macro sin problemas. Además, me gustaría que tuviera una memoria interna de al menos 512 GB y que se pudiera ampliar la memoria del smartphone con una tarjeta de memoria. ¿Alguien tiene algún consejo?
¿Y alguien sabe dónde puedo encontrar información sobre el token GROWTH incluido en Hive Engine?

> #deutsch Zwischen dem Lernen von Pflanzen und deren Verwendung habe ich mir dieses Wochenende die Zeit genommen wieder einmal einige meiner architektonisch interessanten Bilder zu bearbeiten. Dieses Mal habe ich mich aber nicht auf schwindelerregende  Perspektiven fokussiert, sonder einige Aufnahmen mit interessanten Spiegeln ausgegraben. So habe ich diese Auswahl mit Spiegeln und Reflexionen zusammengestellt, wobei mir die gläsernen Fassaden der modernen Gebäude, Schaufenster oder kleine Wasserflächen zu Hilfe kamen. Natürlich habe ich die Bilder schlussendlich ins Quadrat geschnitten, damit sie auch in meine Serie "ARCHITECTURE IN A SQUARE" passten. Und natürlich auch in schwarzweiss, damit ich damit an der #monomad Challenge teilnehmen kann.

> (ENG) Between learning about plants and their uses, I took the time this weekend to edit some of my architecturally interesting photos again. This time, however, I didn't focus on dizzying perspectives, but dug out some shots with interesting mirrors. So I put together this selection of mirrors and reflections, using the glass facades of modern buildings, shop windows and small bodies of water. Of course, I ended up cropping the pictures into squares so that they would fit into my series ‘ARCHITECTURE IN A SQUARE’.

> (ESP) Entre aprender sobre plantas y su uso, este fin de semana me he tomado el tiempo para editar algunas de mis fotos arquitectónicas más interesantes. Esta vez, sin embargo, no me he centrado en perspectivas vertiginosas, sino que he seleccionado algunas fotos con reflejos interesantes. Así he recopilado esta selección con espejos y reflejos, para lo cual me han servido de ayuda las fachadas acristaladas de los edificios modernos, los escaparates o pequeños espejos de agua. Por supuesto, al final he recortado las imágenes en forma cuadrada para que encajaran en mi serie «ARCHITECTURE IN A SQUARE».

## 4 Biodiversity enhancements

### 4.1 More native shrubs

During the summer months, the wild shrubs and trees provided privacy from the park and concealed the wire mesh fence. During the winter months, they were cut back once a year from the lawn. In order to give the area to be upgraded more diversity and biodiversity, all shrubs and trees growing along the fence were removed, including their roots. The wood was added to existing small structures, which already contributed to promoting biodiversity. During removal and replanting, the undergrowth was largely preserved, as it provides an important habitat for many insects, birds and small animals. However, invasive species such as ivy and blackberries were specifically reduced or completely removed to make room for the newly planted shrubs. 

Small and medium-sized native shrubs were then planted on the newly created open space (2/4m x 10m) in accordance with the ecological principles of a valuable wild hedge. Of these, 30% of the new shrubs have thorns or spines to provide birds in the area with better protection from the numerous domestic cats in the area, as well as places of refuge and nesting sites. Most of the shrubs planted bear abundant flowers and fruits, which provide valuable food sources for numerous animal species. When planting, larger shrubs were strategically placed close to the fence, while smaller specimens were positioned closer to the lawn.

In detail, this meant that the sycamore maples and silky dogwoods lining the fence were removed to ensure that no unwanted propagation or uncontrolled growth could take place. The decision to remove all plants, including their roots, was aimed at preventing future problems and making room for planned replanting.

Particular emphasis was placed on preserving the existing undergrowth. This undergrowth not only provides shelter and food for numerous animal species, but also contributes to soil stabilisation and water regulation. The measures included the targeted reduction or complete removal of invasive species that could overgrow other plants. The removal of ivy and blackberries ensured that the new shrubs would find optimal growing conditions and be able to establish themselves well.

The new planting area along the fence was designed according to ecological principles and with consideration for local biodiversity. This not only improved the aesthetic quality of the park, but also contributed to species protection. Native shrubs were selected that not only offer aesthetic advantages, but are also ecologically valuable. The arrangement of the shrubs was strategic: larger specimens were planted near the fence to continue to serve as a privacy screen, while smaller plants were placed closer to the lawn to ensure harmonious integration into the existing landscape. However, in order to achieve privacy from the direction of Gustav Ammann Park even faster than with the slower-growing shrubs, honeysuckle (Lonicera Caprifolium), woodbine (Lonicera periclymenum) and alpine clematis (Clematis alpina) were planted. 

All work was carried out by hand using hand saws, loppers, hand spades and cross picks, which not only protected the environment but also enabled sensitive and precise implementation. The decision not to use heavy machinery minimised the potential negative impact on the soil and the surrounding ecosystem. This was particularly important in order to preserve the delicate ecological balance in the garden.

In summary, these measures were well planned and carefully executed to achieve both aesthetic and ecological goals. The use of native plants, careful preservation of the undergrowth and sustainable use of resources are excellent examples of responsible management of green spaces in residential areas. Such projects not only contribute to beautification, but also promote awareness of the importance of ecological sustainability and biodiversity in urban areas.

### 4.2 More habitat for fauna and flora

In order to offer more protection to the numerous bird species in the garden on Affolternstrasse (every house has its cat), 30% of the trees and shrubs were specifically selected for their thorns and spines. Many flowering and fruit-bearing shrubs were also specifically selected to create new food sources for the small and micro animals living in the garden.

In previous efforts to make the garden more biodiverse and ecologically valuable, small structures such as piles of branches, piles of dead wood and rootstocks, and piles of stones were added to the area. These structures provide valuable habitats for a variety of animals and plants that find rare niches in urbanised areas. For example, brush piles can provide shelter for hedgehogs, while rock piles provide hiding places for lizards.

To close the material cycle in the garden, the material for these new habitats for fauna and flora comes exclusively from pruning and digging work in other areas of the garden. This also avoids the need to use external resources,  wich is both sustainable and economical. Most of the cuttings from the annual tree and shrub maintenance were piled up into brushwood piles, creating an additional layer of biodiversity. These small structures act as microhabitats for insects, small mammals and birds.

The remaining branches were processed into wood chips to create paths in the kitchen garden or to cover the unsealed car park. This not only promotes soil health and water permeability, but also prevents the growth of unwanted vegetation and reduces erosion. In addition, wood chip paths contribute to the aesthetic diversity of the garden, create clear paths and make the garden more pleasant and accessible for visitors. Overall, these practices support sustainable species management while promoting biodiversity within the garden.

### 4.3 More native than non-native shrubs

As the newly planted shrubs are still small and a lot of ivy has been removed, there are many open spaces between the shrubs. To protect the soil from drying out and erosion, underplanting with shrubs is planned in accordance with the ‘woodland edge GR2’ habitat. The Mainly native, shade-tolerant and flowering plants were selected. These provide new habitats for native fauna and prevent the spread of fast-growing plants. Various shrubs such as cypress spurge (*Euphorbia cyparissias*) and stinking hellebore (*Helleborus foetidus, sowing*) from their own garden have already been transplanted, and plants rescued at work, such as male fern (*Dryopteris filix-mas*), hart's tongue fern (*Asplenum scolopendrium*) and goat's beard
(*Aruncus dioicus*), have been used in the new shrub planting.

### 4.4 More flowers than lawn and moss

Numerous primroses once bloomed in spring on a lawn measuring approximately 50 m². As part of an experiment to create a well-maintained lawn without pesky weeds, the lawn was intensively scarified and reseeded with ready-made seed mixtures, including fertiliser additives and seed aids. In the first few weeks, the new lawn developed as desired. However, due to a prolonged absence of the residents responsible for garden maintenance, the fresh lawn was not mowed and cared for sufficiently, which led to it becoming overgrown.

As a result, the lawn was only mowed with a hand cylinder mower when necessary, for example for barbecues or smaller events such as aperitifs and birthday parties. The entire area was never mowed, allowing a weed fringe
to develop in the new shrub planting. The soil was also roughened several times and various meadow flower seed mixtures were sown to bring new life to the patchy, moss-covered lawn. However, these efforts have not yet led to satisfactory results, as apart from a few daisies and various types of grass, hardly any new plants have taken root. Possible reasons for this could be unsuitable site conditions, too many nutrients in the soil for the seed mixtures, or heavy feeding on the seedlings by snails during a wet spring.

Another attempt has now been made to upgrade the utility lawn into a more ecologically valuable flower lawn. To this end, the surface of the soil on various sections of the lawn was first roughened with a hand scarifier and moss was removed. The roughened soil was then covered in various places with different mineral mulch materials (crushed gravel 2/5, washed sand 0/4, crushed granite gravel 8/12, concrete gravel 0/16). The areas treated in this way were then sown with a site-appropriate, perennial wildflower mixture (Artha seeds wildflowers shady, 28 different species) and lightly worked into the mineral material. These measures are intended to simulate a depletion of the surface of the A horizon. The area of the lawn is now watered two to three times a week to keep the new seeds moist. Particular care is taken to ensure that watering is even, in order to guarantee uniform germination and establishment of the wildflowers. In addition, regular checks are carried out to identify potential problems such as pest infestation or competition from unwanted grasses and weeds at an early stage and to take appropriate action.

To ensure the long-term success of the conversion to a species-rich habitat, a maintenance plan is being drawn up which, in addition to irrigation, also provides for the selective removal of highly competitive plants. This includes mowing once a year,  but not leaving the clippings on the ground in order to minimise nutrient input. The gradual introduction of additional wildflower seeds is also planned in order to further increase biodiversity
and extend the flowering period.

And now I have compiled a post from my series ‘ARCHITECTURE IN A SQUARE’ with square images, photographing skyscrapers and modern architecture throughout Europe. When photographing the various buildings, I always looked for lines and angles and tried to capture breathtaking perspectives.
The images selected for this post are all from the modern district of ‘La Défense’ on the outskirts of Paris (France).

ARCHITECTURE IN A SQUARE #62- A new entry for #photographylovers 

ONLY ONE #257

This is my first post in the HIVEGARDEN community. I work as a landscape gardener in Zurich (Switzerland). I often maintain the gardens of the rich and famous, where, in my opinion, turf and thuja or cherry laurel hedges (cherry laurel (*Prunus lauroscerasus*) is considered an invasive neophyte in Switzerland and may therefore no longer be traded) are used to the detriment of native biodiversity. For this reason, I would like to present to you a project on the biodiversity enhancement of gardens and green spaces in urban areas, which I wrote during a horticultural training course. 

Promoting biodiversity in urban areas has many advantages: it improves the quality of life for the population, increases resilience to climate change and provides essential ecosystem services such as cooling, air purification and habitats for animals. In cities in particular, which are subject to greater warming due to the so-called heat island effect, various green spaces help to improve the microclimate and promote climate-adapted plant populations.

I wrote the paper myself and translated it from German using deepl.com. The images and the text in German were created without AI.

## 1 Summary

The project ‘G3 Green Space Maintenance’ entitled ‘MORE BIODIVERSITY IN URBAN AREAS’ describes the ongoing ecological enhancement of a garden in the urban area of Zurich Oerlikon. The aim is to promote biodiversity and transform the garden into an ecologically valuable habitat for flora and fauna. The measures include the removal of non-native and indigenous plants and their replacement with native shrubs, which are underplanted with predominantly native perennials and wildflowers. The experimental enhancement of a utility lawn into a flower lawn is also part of the project.

A central component of the project is nature-oriented maintenance, which is based on the natural conditions of the site. Chemical fertilisers and pesticides are deliberately avoided; instead, organic materials such as leaves and cuttings are used. Small structures such as piles of branches, dead wood and piles of stones have been integrated to create additional habitats for small animals and insects. Maintenance is extensive and selective, with inflorescences and fruits being preserved to provide food for birds and insects.

The project shows how targeted measures can transform a small urban garden into an ecologically valuable habitat. It emphasises the importance of biodiversity in urban areas and the role of nature-oriented maintenance as a contribution to climate protection and sustainable urban development. The residents of the apartment building are thus setting an example for the integration of nature conservation and biodiversity into everyday urban life and making an important contribution to the promotion of ecological diversity.

## 2 Introduction - More biodiversity in urban areas

Biodiversity in urban areas refers to the diversity of habitats within urban and rural areas. Numerous wild species can survive even in built-up areas, provided that suitable habitats are created and maintained. Urban areas therefore offer significant opportunities for species protection and the promotion of ecological diversity.

Promoting biodiversity in urban areas has many advantages: it improves the quality of life for the population, increases resilience to climate change and provides essential ecosystem services such as cooling, air purification and habitats for animals. In cities in particular, which are subject to greater warming due to the so-called heat island effect, diverse green spaces help to improve the microclimate and promote climate-adapted plant populations.

Key strategies include preserving and connecting valuable habitats, for example through green spaces, natural gardens, hedges, groups of trees or unsealed areas. In addition, the targeted introduction of native wild plants, shrubs and trees that provide habitat and food for animals and are adapted to local climate and soil conditions is crucial. Overall, promoting biodiversity in urban areas is an important measure for nature conservation, adaptation to climate change and improving quality of life. It is an investment in a biodiverse future. 

The residents of an apartment building in the Zurich Oerlikon residential area (Switzerland) want to promote biodiversity. They have replaced wild shrubs with native ones, started planting native, site-appropriate perennials as underplanting, and begun upgrading a utility lawn into a flower lawn. These vegetation profiles are maintained in a natural way to promote biodiversity in the settlement area and create new habitats, refuges and food sources for animals in urban areas.

## 3 The garden – a location analysis

The property on which the area in question is located is situated in the middle of the residential area of Zurich Oerlikon (city district 11, 8050 Zurich, Switzerland). On the south side of the site, a small lawn with a table tennis table borders the one-way street Affolternstrasse (30 km/h zone). On the west side, there is a pathway and a shady perennial border, which borders a covered bicycle parking area and the entrance path to the neighbouring property. On the east side of the building there is a raised balcony (raised ground floor), a small kitchen garden with raised beds for vegetables and a green area with clotheslines. On the north side, the property borders Gustav-Ammann- Park (1). This area is now being upgraded to be more natural.

The rear section of the Affolternstrasse garden (north side of the building) is used by the residents of the apartment building as a recreation area. Small barbecues, drinks receptions and other events (10-20 people) are held sporadically in this area. The area has a long wooden table with chairs, a barbecue area, a wooden shelter, the outdoor unit of an air heat pump and additional seating. The area is accessed via a natural stone staircase. This is flanked on the left and right by shrub borders interspersed with fascines. Large shrubs and small trees grow in these embankment borders. These plants are pruned by hand once a year in the winter months using secateurs. Deciduous plants are cut back to their shoots, dead leaves are removed from evergreen/wintergreen plants and unsightly and dead shoots are cut off the small shrubs. Wilted flowers and seed heads are left in place during winter as garden decoration and a source of food for birds. The cut material is shredded and returned to the garden as mulch.

A 1.20m-high chain-link fence separates the lower part of the garden from Gustav Amman Park. Wild sycamore maples (*Acer pseudoplatanus*) and silky dogwoods (*Cornus sericea*) have settled along this fence. A Japanese snowball (*Viburnum plicatum*) and a weeping willow have also been planted along the fence. When the fence is covered by the leaves of the shrubs and trees, it creates a smooth transition to the park. On the western boundary of the property, there is a Japanese privet (*Ligustrum japonicum*), a forsythia (*Forsythia × intermedia*), a 25-year-old columnar hornbeam (*Carpinus betulus “Fastigiata”*) and a parrotia (*Parrotia persica*). The parrotia conceals a hole in the columnar hornbeam caused by a broken branch. On the eastern side, next to the wooden shelter, there is a large cornelian cherry (*Cornus mas*).

At the edge of the lawn, small structures such as piles of branches, stones and dead wood were created using only materials from the garden, with the idea of providing local small and micro-organisms such as frogs, hedgehogs and numerous insect species with places of refuge and winter quarters.

Due to its location on the north side of the building and the surrounding large trees in the garden and Gustav Amman Park, the area to be upgraded corresponds to the habitat ‘shady forest edge’ (2). The semi-shaded location (sunlight in the morning and partly in the evening, changing shade during the day due to buildings and surrounding trees) is characteristic of the forest edge. In this intermediate zone, light and temperature conditions change during the day. The soil is mostly fresh to moderately dry and moderately moist in the shade under the trees. A spade sample reveals humus-rich, fresh soil with a crumbly, permeable structure. The A horizon (topsoil) has a good organic structure, with the top layer clearly interspersed with grass roots. This gives the soil a fine crumbly and loose appearance.

(1) **Gustav Ammann Park** – The park (3,000 m²) is an important example of Swiss garden architecture from the 1940s and illustrates the connection between architecture and nature in the context of a residential garden with a social background. The park was designed in 1942 by renowned Swiss landscape architect Gustav Ammann and originally served as a welfare garden for the employees of the adjacent Oerlikon-Bührle AG factory, offering them relaxation and a pleasant atmosphere during their breaks. The park's design is characterised by a peaceful atmosphere, with winding paths, small seating areas, a water basin with stepping stones, rustic Ticino pergolas (restored in 1996) and a variety of plants, including floodplain trees and southern, winter-hardy plants. (2) In 1973, Richard Hansen and Hermann Müssel developed a system for classifying garden perennials on ecological grounds. It was published in 1981 in the book Die Stauden und ihre Lebensbereiche in Gärten und Grünanlagen (Perennials and their habitats in gardens and green spaces) by R. Hansen and Friedrich Stahl. It was further developed in the late 1970s by Prof. Dr. Josef Sieber, who also introduced the abbreviations that are commonly used today in plant descriptions and on plant labels. Habitats are a system for classifying plant growth locations according to their conditions. They are classified according to their natural conditions such as climate, soil, light and terrain. This enables the selection of plants suitable for the habitat. Dazu habe ich lange meine neueren Aufnahmen nach einem guten Thema durchforstet. Nach langer Suche kamen  mir meine bereits bearbeiteten, quadratischen Bilder interessanter Architektur und Perspektiven, sowie meine Serie "ARCHITECTURE IN A SQUARE" wieder in den Sinn. So habe ich mich entschlossen, diese Serie  
gebührend mit einem Beitrag zur #monomad Challenge fortzuführen.  

> Die Bilder habe ich während Städteferien bei einem Ausflug in das moderne Hochhausviertel "La Défense" neben Paris gemacht. Dabei fühlte ich mich wie ein Kind in einem riesigen Spielplatz. So viele Hochhäuser auf einem Haufen!!!! So verbrachte ich fast einen ganzen Tag damit, mit hochgehaltener Kamera durch in den Strassen und Gassen der modernen Stadt nach interessanten Perspektiven zu suchen. Auch war es mir beim Aufnehmen der Fotos wichtig, Linien und Winkel zu finden, und dabei diese hervorzuheben. Durch die modernen Fassaden, oft bestehend aus Glas, waren die Spiegelungen ein willkommener Nebeneffekt.

After a long search,  my already edited square photos of interesting architecture and perspectives, as well as my series ‘ARCHITECTURE IN A SQUARE’, came to mind again. with a contribution to the #monomad Challenge.  

> I took the pictures during a city break on a trip to the modern high-rise district ‘La Défense’ next to Paris. I felt like a child in a huge playground. So many skyscrapers in one place! I spent almost an entire day walking through the streets and alleys of the modern city with my camera held high, searching for interesting perspectives. When taking the photos, it was also important to me to find lines and angles and emphasise them. The modern façades, often made of glass, created reflections as a welcome side effect.

Para ello, he estado revisando mis fotos más recientes en busca de un buen tema. Después de mucho buscar,  me acordé de mis fotos cuadradas ya editadas de arquitectura y perspectivas interesantes, así como de mi serie «ARCHITECTURE IN A SQUARE». Así que decidí continuar esta serie  
con una contribución al desafío #monomad.  

> Las fotos las hice durante unas vacaciones urbanas en una excursión al moderno barrio de rascacielos «La Défense», junto a París. Allí me sentí como un niño en un enorme parque infantil. ¡¡¡Tantos rascacielos juntos!!!! Así que pasé casi todo un día con la cámara en alto, buscando perspectivas interesantes por las calles y callejuelas de la ciudad moderna. Al tomar las fotos, también me pareció importante encontrar líneas y ángulos y resaltarlos. Las fachadas modernas, a menudo de cristal, proporcionaban unos reflejos que eran un efecto secundario muy bienvenido.

ARCHITECTURE IN A SQUARE #61 - A new entry for the #monomad challenge 

(D) Endlich habe ich mir auch wieder einmal die Zeit genommen einen Post auf der #hiveblockchain zu verfassen. Als ich vor ziemlich genau einem Jahr mit einer Weiterbildung angefangen habe, konnte ich mir noch nicht ausmalen, wie sehr Schule und lernen auf meinen Schaffens-Rhythmus Einfluss nehmen wird. Zuvor habe ich wöchentlich 1-3 Posts verfasst. Aber nicht nur das Schreiben von Posts kam im letzten Jahr zu kurz. Auch das Fotografieren und Bearbeiten von Bildern habe ich durch das Lernen von Pflanzen, dem Schreiben von Arbeiten über biodiversive Aufwertungen in meinem eigenen Garten und dem Zusammenstellen von Präsentationen eingetauscht. 
Das Fotogrfieren hat sich in dieser Zeit auf meine Ferien beschränkt. So habe ich mir während unsere letzten Ferien auf der Insel Korsika die Zeit genommen nicht nur die schönen Strände, sondern auch die Fauna und Flora der schönen, wilden Insel abzulichten und zu bearbeiten. Dabei sind folgende Bilder entstanden, welche ich für die #monomad challenge entsättigt und zusammengestellt habe.

(ENG) I finally took the time to write a post on #hiveblockchain again. When I started further education almost exactly a year ago, I couldn't have imagined how much school and studying would affect my creative rhythm. Before that, I wrote 1-3 posts a week. But it wasn't just writing posts that fell by the wayside last year. I also swapped photography and image editing for learning about plants, writing papers on biodiversity enhancement in my own garden and putting together presentations. 
During this time, my photography was limited to my holidays. So, during our last holiday on the island of Corsica, I took the time to photograph and edit not only the beautiful beaches, but also the fauna and flora of this beautiful, wild island. This resulted in the following images, which I desaturated and compiled for the #monomad challenge.

(ESP) Por fin me he tomado el tiempo para escribir una publicación en #hiveblockchain. Cuando empecé una formación continua hace casi exactamente un año, no podía imaginar hasta qué punto la escuela y el estudio influirían en mi ritmo creativo. Durante este tiempo, la fotografía se ha limitado a mis vacaciones. Así, durante nuestras últimas vacaciones en la isla de Córcega, me tomé el tiempo no solo de fotografiar las hermosas playas, sino también la fauna y la flora de esta hermosa y salvaje isla, y de editar las imágenes. El resultado son las siguientes imágenes, que he desaturado y recopilado para el desafío #monomad.

(D) Diese europäische Gottesanbeterin (*Mantis religiosa*) hat es sich eines Nachmittages im Radkasten unseres CamperVans bequem gemacht. Als sie bemerkte, dass ich schnell meine Kamera zückte, hat sie sich kurze Zeit wie ein Model gebärtet und sich ausgiebig fotografieren lassen.

(ENG) This European praying mantis (*Mantis religiosa*) made itself comfortable in the wheel arch of our camper van one afternoon. When it noticed me quickly pulling out my camera, it posed like a model for a short while and let me take lots of photos.

(ESP) Esta mantis religiosa europea (*Mantis religiosa*) se acomodó una tarde en el paso de rueda de nuestra autocaravana. Cuando se dio cuenta de que sacaba rápidamente mi cámara, posó como una modelo durante un rato y se dejó fotografiar a fondo.

(D) Gerne hätte ich den Samtfalter (*Hipparchia semele*) im Fluge mit offenen Flügeln erwischt. Doch war er mir während dem Fliegen viel zu nervös, und hatte während seinen Pausen immer seine Flügel geschlossen.

(ENG) I would have loved to capture the purple-edged white (*Hipparchia semele*) in flight with its wings open. But it was far too nervous while flying and always closed its wings during its breaks.

(ESP)  Me hubiera gustado capturar al mariposa Hipparchia semele en pleno vuelo con las alas abiertas. Sin embargo, era demasiado inquieta mientras volaba y siempre cerraba las alas durante sus descansos.

(D) Diese Dalmatinische Spitzkopfeidechse (*Dalmatolacerta oxycephala*) habe ich auf einer Wanderung im Bavella-Massiv entdeckt, als meine Freundin und ich die offiziellen von Touristen bevölkerten Wege verliessen.

(ENG) I discovered this Dalmatian rock lizard (*Dalmatolacerta oxycephala*) on a hike in the Bavella massif when my girlfriend and I left the official paths populated by tourists.

(ESP) Descubrí este lagarto de cabeza puntiaguda dálmata (*Dalmatolacerta oxycephala*) durante una excursión por el macizo de Bavella, cuando mi novia y yo nos alejamos de los senderos oficiales, llenos de turistas.

(D) Seht ihr sie...?...Ohne ihr lautes Zirpen hätte ich wohl die Mannasingzikade (*Cicada orni*) im nahen Baum nicht entdeckt. Denn mit ihrer Musterung wurde sie fast zu einem Teil des Stammes der Pinie, an dem sie sang.

(ENG) Can you see it...? Without its loud chirping, I probably wouldn't have spotted the Mannasing cicada (*Cicada orni*) in the nearby tree. Its pattern made it almost blend into the trunk of the pine tree where it was singing.

(ESP) ¿La ven...? Sin su fuerte chirrido, probablemente no habría descubierto la cigarra Mannasing (*Cicada orni*) en el árbol cercano. Con su patrón, casi se convertía en parte del tronco del pino en el que cantaba.

(D) In Korsika kann man nicht nur im salzigen Meer baden, sondern auch oft eine Abkühlung in einer Badestelle der Bäche und Flüsse mit glasklarem Süsswasser finden. An einer solchen hane ich die Libelle, ein Südlicher Blaupfeil (*Orthetrum brunneum*) fotografiert.

(ENG) In Corsica, you can not only swim in the salty sea, but also often find refreshment in a bathing spot in the streams and rivers with crystal-clear fresh water. At one such spot, I photographed the southern blue damselfly (*Orthetrum brunneum*).

(ESP) En Córcega no solo se puede nadar en el mar salado, sino que también se puede refrescarse en los arroyos y ríos de agua dulce cristalina. En uno de ellos fotografié la libélula azul meridional (*Orthetrum brunneum*).

(D) Oft waren die Badestellen in den Flüssen und Bächen Korsikas nicht nur von Touristen und Badenden bevölkert, sondern auch von hunderten Wasserläufer (*Gerris lacustris*), welche über die Wasserobefläche rannten.

(ENG) The bathing spots in Corsica's rivers and streams were often populated not only by tourists and bathers, but also by hundreds of water striders (*Gerris lacustris*) running across the water's surface.

(D) Lieber hätte ich ja ein Mufflon bei der Wanderung im Mufflon-Schutzgebiet im Ascotal fotografiert. Doch ich hatte auch Freude am in Korsika heimischen Korsikazeisig (*Carduelis corsicana*), welcher sich versuchte in einer Pinus zu verstecken.

(ENG) I would have preferred to photograph a mouflon during my hike in the mouflon reserve in the Asco Valley. But I also enjoyed seeing the Corsican siskin (*Carduelis corsicana*), native to Corsica, which was trying to hide in a pine tree.

(ESP) Hubiera preferido fotografiar un muflón durante la excursión por la reserva de muflones del valle de Asco. Pero también disfruté observando al jilguero corso (*Carduelis corsicana*), autóctono de Córcega, que intentaba esconderse en un pino.

(D) Auf einem Campingplatz hat sich dieser halbzahme Fuchs (*Vulpes vulpes*) Nachts herumgetrieben. Ganz ohne Scheu tauchte er vor dem Eindunkeln zwischen den CamperVans und Zelten auf, und spielte mit Insekten und Kindern, und klaute unvorsichtigen Campern die Schuhe.

BLACK AND WHITE ANIMAL BEAUTY (D/ENG/ESP) - A new entey for the #monomad Challenge

Mai, und natürlich bin ich auch dieses Jahr, wie jedes Jahr wenn ich gerade in Zürich verweile, am grossen morgendlichen Umzug mit ca. 20000 Menschen aus Zürich, bei schönstem Wetter, durch die Zürcher Innenstadt gezogen. Und auch dieses Jahre haben linke Parteien, politische Jugendorganisationen, Arbeitnehmerverbände und Gewerkschaften mit grossen und kleinen Transparenten, Plakaten oder Fahnen, pfeifend, singend, tanzend und "Siamo Tutti Antifascisti!"-skandierend, auf Zu-/und Missstände, Wünsche und Träume in Berufs-/und Privatleben, auf sich aufmerksam gemacht. Ich mag es Teil dieser grossen, bunten Masse zu sein. Ich mag es wenn meine Mitmenschen den Mut und die Motivation, an diesem in Zürich arbeitsfreien Tag, ihre Anliegen zusammen auf die Strasse tragen, denn bei uns in der Schweiz ist dies noch möglich. Der Umzug verlief ruhig und folgte seiner gewohnten Route vom Arbeiterquartier Langstrasse, über den Hauptbahnhof mit Europaallee, durch einen kleinen Teil der Bahnhofstrasse (wo die Banken und der grosse Luxus beginnt, wurde der Umzug umgeleitet), dem Stadtfluss Limmat entlang, bis zum Sechseläutenplatz. Dieser Platz ist nach einer Feierlichkeit benannt, wo die Zünfte (in meinen Augen die Oberklasse) in traditionellen Kleider durch Zürich ziehen. Und wir haben uns dieses Jahr einige Tage später am 1.Mai den Platz zurückgeholt...der Klassenkampf lebt!!!!
Wenn die Wut überhand nimmt, kam es auch dieses Jahr zu kleineren Sachbeschädigungen wie zerbrochene Scheiben ("Scheiben splitter und ihr schreit, Menschen sterben und ihr schweigt...") und meist gezielte Sprayereien (siehe Bilder). Auch wurden Pyros gezündet und dann und wann knallten Böller. Und manchmal wurden die Ordnungskräfte (Zivil und in Uniform), die in kleinen Gassen aufpassten, dass niemand einen falschen Weg einschlug, zur Erfrischung bei diesem schönen Wetter mit Wasserballone eingedeckt. 
Und natürlich hatte ich auch meine Kamera dabei. Obwohl ich aber dann feststellen musste, das ich an diesem Tag nicht gerade In The Mood war viele grossartige Bilder zu knipsen, sind einige schöne Eindrücke eines gelunegen Umzuges entstanden, welche bereits von Freunden als Kunst gerühmt wurden. So schrieb mir ein guter Freund: "Brutale Ästhetik, Reduktion aufs Maximum. Ich wage mich mal weit aus dem Fenster zu lehnen und sage Kunst!!!" ... Danke...!!!!</center>

<center> #english It was May Day again, and of course this year, like every year when I'm in Zurich, I took part in the big morning parade through Zurich city centre with around 20,000 people from Zurich in the best weather. And this year too, left-wing parties, political youth organisations, workers' associations and trade unions drew attention to their grievances, wishes and dreams in their professional and private lives with large and small banners, posters and flags, whistling, singing, dancing and chanting ‘Siamo Tutti Antifascisti!’. I like being part of this big, colourful crowd. I like it when my fellow human beings have the courage and motivation to take their concerns to the streets together on this day off from work in Zurich, because this is still possible here in Switzerland. The parade proceeded quietly and followed its usual route from the working-class neighbourhood of Langstrasse, via the main railway station with Europaallee, through a small part of Bahnhofstrasse (where the banks and big luxury start, the parade was diverted), along the city river Limmat, to Sechseläutenplatz. This square is named after a celebration where the guilds (in my eyes the upper class) parade through Zurich in traditional dress. And we took the square back a few days later this year on 1 May...the class struggle lives on!!!!
When anger gets out of hand, there was also minor damage to property this year, such as broken windows (‘Windows shatter and you scream, people die and you remain silent...’) and mostly targeted sprayings (see pictures). Pyrotechnics were also set off and now and again firecrackers went off. And sometimes the law enforcement officers (plainclothes and in uniform), who were watching out in small alleyways to make sure no-one went the wrong way, were pelted with water balloons as a refreshment in this beautiful weather. 
And of course I also had my camera with me. Although I had to realise that I wasn't exactly in the mood to take many great pictures that day, I did manage to capture some beautiful impressions of a successful parade, which friends have already praised as art. A good friend wrote to me: "Brutal aesthetics, reduction to the maximum. I'm going to go out on a limb and say art!!!" ... Thank you...!!!! </center>

<center> #spanish Volvía a ser el Primero de Mayo y, por supuesto, este año, como cada año que estoy en Zúrich, participé en el gran desfile matutino por el centro de la ciudad con unos 20.000 zuriqueses y con el mejor tiempo. Y también este año, partidos de izquierda, organizaciones políticas juveniles, asociaciones de trabajadores y sindicatos llamaron la atención sobre sus quejas, deseos y sueños en su vida profesional y privada con grandes y pequeñas pancartas, carteles y banderas, silbando, cantando, bailando y coreando «¡Siamo Tutti Antifascisti!». Me gusta formar parte de esta gran y colorida multitud. Me gusta cuando mis semejantes tienen el valor y la motivación de sacar juntos sus preocupaciones a la calle en este día libre del trabajo en Zúrich, porque esto todavía es posible aquí en Suiza. El desfile transcurrió en silencio y siguió su ruta habitual desde el barrio obrero de Langstrasse, pasando por la estación central de ferrocarril con Europaallee, a través de una pequeña parte de Bahnhofstrasse (donde empiezan los bancos y el gran lujo, el desfile se desvió), a lo largo del río Limmat de la ciudad, hasta Sechseläutenplatz. Esta plaza debe su nombre a una celebración en la que los gremios (a mis ojos, la clase alta) desfilan por Zúrich con trajes tradicionales. ¡¡¡¡Y volvimos a tomar la plaza unos días más tarde, el 1 de mayo de este año... 
la lucha de clases sigue viva!!!!
Cuando la ira se desborda, este año también se produjeron pequeños daños materiales, como ventanas rotas («Las ventanas se rompen y tú gritas, la gente muere y tú permaneces en silencio...») y pintadas con spray (ver fotos). También se encendió pirotecnia y de vez en cuando estallaron petardos. Y a veces los agentes del orden (de paisano y de uniforme), que vigilaban en las callejuelas para asegurarse de que nadie se equivocaba de camino, recibían globos de agua como refresco en este tiempo tan bonito. 
Y, por supuesto, yo también llevaba mi cámara. Aunque tuve que darme cuenta de que ese día no estaba precisamente de humor para hacer muchas fotos estupendas, conseguí captar algunas bellas impresiones de un desfile exitoso, que mis amigos ya han elogiado como arte. Un buen amigo me escribió: "Estética brutal, reducción al máximo. Voy a arriesgarme y decir ¡¡¡arte!!!". ... ¡¡¡¡Gracias...!!!!</center>
