Hi There! I'm Jan, the developer, founder and personal chef of this project.

The last time that I made an update was a good one, I wanted to do a post about every update I made, but I don't think it was a good idea to do a post about EVERY SINGLE BIGGEST CHANGE IN ALL HIVEDEBIT HISTORY, which was changing a string from "I have account" to "I have AN account".

So I just stopped to do some updates and started focusing on how to keep doing a good job with this, my personal developer @jthomasewsky have been traveling a lot and we not paying this man to just travel, what he thinks we are? his personal fund for trips and pancakes? what an asshole.

But I talked with him and now he made some interesting updates, he already had them but he said that in a car around Colombia it's impossible to do an update.

I finally waited for him at his house and forced him to do an update, that's why you are reading this post.

# Did we miss Naira?

I always take a look on Distriator and new stores registered on Distriator like @happycustomer and @starkerz made me realize that we have interesting currencies ngl, we have:

- Colombian Peso (4000 per HBD)
- Mexican Peso (20 per HBD)
- United States Dollar (1 per HBD)
- Argentinian Peso (1400 per HBD)
- Quetzal (7.5 per HBD)

But the great question that u and me can do is, do we have more people using those currencies more than others, and the answer is no, that's why here I apologize to @happycustomer for not having Naira on HiveDebit, if you don't know as I didn't, Naira is the currency of Nigeria, country that uses distriator as Bitcoiners Lightning.

# A New Image for HiveDebit

If you are here since the beginning, lmk who was first in Malvinas I have been dealing with a guy that says that British people were there first, so if you were here at the beginning lmk, but if you have only been here since the beginning of the project, then you know that the logo of HiveDebit have 2 versions, one of it is the normal one of Hive that says HiveDebit.

And the other one it's a joke of MasterCard, saying masterhive, but sometimes is better to do not have troubles with people, neither with mastercard, cause they know where I live, so I prefer to change the logo and have one logo for HiveDebit, a simple and cute one.

# Let's Talk About Security

As you know, one of the inspirations to create HiveDebit was the Bolt/Lightning Cards, cool NFC cards to do Lightning payments, but do you really know how they work? Are they decentralized?

The answer is no, the way they work it's really simple, Bolt is a standard for NFC payments, the way it works is that your card is linked to a Server with the information of your account, if you scan with NFC Tools your Lightning Card you'll find a link that can change depending on who issue the card, in my case I have Tiankii and LaCrypta, and the link it's just a link from their server/api, when you tap to pay wallets like Blink just take the link and ask for the money, so there's no transactions happening from Peer to Peer, it's only the server that holds your money and send it to the wallet.

This means that if the server broke, you can not use the card, and if the card is the backup of your money you are completely fucked.

After explaining to you how this thing works, it's time to talk about the truth, the truth is that Lightning Cards are sucking the tires of my Concorde, what you thought I was about to say?

# How it Works on HiveDebit?

Simple, you give me your active key and I withdraw the funds, so please if you want to support me just create a HiveDebit card, well actually, when we started the project the main focus was, how I can design a way where me as the developer can not get the money from the cards, and I got many solutions, but we have 2 different problems here.

### Usability VS Security

One of the options for HiveDebit was pre-approved transactions or authorities, what's the problem with this?
Basically if you haven't seen is that grandmas are using HiveDebit, do u think a grandma knows how to do pre-approved txs? maybe my grandpa knows how to manage UTXOS and do Coinjoin, but I don't think yours can, so this needed to be simple to use.

Other Option was the custodial way, we just store the keys and you have a link in the card, as it works with Lightning, so if your card get steal you just tell me and I'll block it, but I would have the active keys of a lot of people, how you can know that I'm not going to take 8K from your account and get a Cherokee?

So the last option was relay on you, you hold the active key, so if you live in Nigeria, I can not steal your active key, cause is physically stored on your NFC Card encrypted, so if I wanted it, first of all I should be in Nigeria, and I think that's a bit too far from here, if you are a US, Canada or UK Citizen living in your country you can be relaxed, I don't have VISA to go for your HiveDebit card.

So Mr. Jan, this means that if you are near to me you can steal my card? The answer is yes and no.

### PIN is Required

Let's say that I steal only the encrypted content of your card, you'll be completely fucked? Nop, remember that your card have a PIN, normally is 4 Digits, but in this update you'll need to remember 2 Numbers more, if I don't have the PIN I cannot do transactions with your card.

But Jan, are you stupid or what? I would try to break the card to get the Active Key, and me too, but here's the trick, this is decentralized technology, it means that if I wanted to help you or steal you, I have the same probabilities, ZERO.

This relay on you, if you are using a NFC 215-216 Card and you are using a 6 Pin Digit those are your probabilities:

- If Mr. Jan have only the encrypted content but not the UID+PIN he would need a lot of years to get the active key.
- If Mr. Jan have the encrypted content and the UID it would take 40 Minutes with a Super PC and GPU (worth 1.6K) doing brute force to decrypt it, if the hacker is only using a good PC (worth 2K) it can take him 4 hours, if he is using a Laptop it can take 10 hours, and a normal CPU or Medium-High it can take 28 Hours.

- If Mr. Jan have only the encrypted content and the PIN it would take him a lot of time to get it, more than a few months, maybe years.

So, are you telling me that if the Hacker get my encrypted content and my UID I'm completely fucked? Not at all Mr, we have some solutions for you. 

- If you keep using NFC 215-216 you are going to be using this probabilities, but if you have a secondary account for your HiveDebit card you are more safe, we also are going to offer in our website something to change your Active Key so you are more safe.

- If you change to NFC 424 DNA, you are more safe, it's really hard to get the information with a Flipper Zero, there are some ways, but the only guy that I know it has a Flipper is me and @vaultec, so just run if you see him or me, nah just kidding you'll be more safe and a Hacker with a Flipper Zero will have really low probabilities to get all the information from the card, basically cause when you scan the card you only get an ID, but not the encrypted content thanks to his design.

- JavaCards, I'm working in a model with JavaCards, the ones with the Chip, so maybe you'll be able to use them AND SIGN THE TRANSACTIONS INSIDE THE CARD! Safer than ever.

But Jan are you stupid, why you didn't told us about the NTAG 424 and forced us to use 215-216, basically cause I'm from LATAM, and I know how hard it is to get some products, like the NTAG 424, in my Local Market I'm only able to get NTAG 214-215-216, not NTAG 424, and I'm sure you are in the same situation or people is going to charge you more for the NTAG 424, and the idea is that this can be used by everyone and cheap, no need for the most expensive card.

But Jan you keep complaining about your bullshit of system, this is a cancer for hive, so first of all, this is decentralized as fuck, if your keys get stolen It wasn't me, as I said, the security relay on you, or you think that when someone steal your private key of Bitcoin you are going to call Satoshi and daddy Satoshi is going to give it back to you, nop sir, you get completely fucked, the same here, you're managing your own keys, self custody as fuck, but this is a project funded by the DHF, which means that I should follow what people wants.

If you want a more secure way, like centralized servers let me know and I'll change it to centralized, but don't come to me when Bitcoiners start laughing about the Hive Centralized cards, you are in the position to laugh them thanks to me.

If you have a better solution lmk also, but don't talk about Private Key Generation, that relays on a offline PC and is not safe at all, don't talk about Pre-Approvals or Authorities, grandmas don't know how to do that.

After saying all these things, the conclusion is that I made my best in terms of decentralized security, but anyway I improved it a little bit more for you cause I know u love me and i love u.

### Gateway To Growth – Secure Financial Utility (GTG-SFU)

If you want to be really secure, and if we want to provide people HiveDebit cards we need to think.

And I have improved the next things:

- Now you need to Update your Card to 6 PIN Digit and Confirm it.

- Now you can create a HiveDebit card with NTAG 424 DNA and get invisible to Flippers.

- Open Source System (Not yet available to look), which means that you can see how we encrypt the card and people can know how to hack it, but this ensure that we have made a good job, cause we know someone is going to take the code and try to steal the cards, and if it's open source as we doing it, we know risk are minimized.

And I haven't finished the GTG-SFU update, but these things are really important for your security and my pancakes.

But Mr you are an asshole, lmk how my card get encrypted.

Yes sir, it's really basic but cool.


### How the key is derived

- The user picks a 6-digit PIN.

- We read the tag’s UID from NFC.

- We run a memory-hard KDF:
Argon2id(PIN + UID, salt, memory≈256 MiB, time=3, output=32 B).
The result is the AES key.

Why Argon2id? Because it makes each guess expensive in memory bandwidth, slowing down GPU/ASIC brute-force attempts.

### How encryption works (issuance)

- Generate fresh random salt and nonce.

- Derive key with Argon2id as above.

- Encrypt the wallet payload with AES-GCM using nonce.

- Store {ver, uid, salt, nonce, ct} on the NTAG as NDEF.

- AES-GCM gives confidentiality and integrity (if a bit is flipped, decryption fails).

### How spending works (POS)

- POS reads the NDEF record and checks ver ≥ 2.

- POS asks for the PIN.

- POS re-derives the key with Argon2id(PIN + UID, salt) and decrypts ct.

- POS verifies sha256(ak) == ak_hash and checks tmax ≥ amount.

- POS signs a transfer on Hive with the decrypted active key and immediately wipes the key from memory.


But Jan when you pay the POS gets the active key, this is really unsafe, what do you prefer? One POS infected because it looked for hot latinas in the area, or the FULL SYSTEM compromised and hacked, so if every single card do tap the system will steal the active key.

And also, don't worries, I already thought about it, and I have a solution so your key is not compromised with the POS, in this version no, because sadly as the real concorde, we need to stop flying it cause it's cool, it's great, but it wasn't perfect, just keep reading you'll find the next version of HiveDebit.

If you are using a POS or you create invoices, just make sure you don't look for hot latinas in your area, or use incognito mode to use HiveDebit if you are skeptical, but remember, this is decentralized, don't try to say, you should decrypt it in the server, cause I would have access to the key, and again, if you have a best way to do it, LMK and I'll do it, and if someone says "What if you get a 2FA code?" I'll go to his house and slap him with a pancake.

# Engines OFF

Concorde was a good version, good improvement, good UI/UX, but as I said one time, this is not the final version, the final version is going to have more stuff than what you have right now, which is the simple stuff but vital, do transactions, tap to pay, simple and safe.

But I want to give you all the great stuff, big stuff and concorde was not able to keep carrying all the updates that we doing.

That's why start saying goodbye to Concorde, Concorde Code will be released soon on Github if you want to do a Fork and run it again.

Concorde was one of the best versions for me as developer, I had the pleasure to see what a normal user does and what he likes and how he likes it, that's why next version will be perfectly made for you, after saying this, please say Goodbye to Concorde, and be prepared to say Hi to the new version of HiveDebit.

Just Imagine being able to store your keys on a card, you have always save them in Whatsapp or telegram, I know you do it.

That's why HiveDebit Grand Cherokee offer you the First way to store your Private Keys on a Card, the JavaCard.

A Card that in his interior is able to run code, a Bitcoin Project called Satochip offer the same thing, be able to store your private keys, and we are offering you the same, but not to store Bitcoin Private keys... to store your Hive Private Keys.

Right Now Mr what you waiting for? If you go and do tap to pay the system is going to say nop, you need to update the card.

In 25.7 Weeks I have done the work of 36 Weeks and the Progress it's really high and I'm above the Timeline, so I should have few months of paid rest, nah just kidding I keep being a public employee of the DHF, so I keep working on HiveDebit and being efficient with Time and Money.

I'm Jan, as u know I'm the developer of this project, I been doing updates and investigations to provide you the best option for this project, in the last time I been reading and trying to have an iPhone version for every iPhone user but I'm dealing with Apple Developer License, I'm trying to get one, we already paid, but Apple don't want money, they want to verificate who I'am, so This is third time I make it, if I don't have an answer I'll call Apple to check what is happening but be sure that iPhone will have his version.

### Android to Android?

Yes sir you'll be able to pay from one phone to other through NFC Technology, no QR's or stuff like that, tap and pay from your android to android, no technical explication for this, it's simple, but what about iPhone? The short answer is no thanks. Apple doesn't allow us to make a lot of stuff with NFC, we only can receive payments with an Apple deveice and create cards, but no tap to pay with iPhone.

### Are we going right?

I'm going to be truth, I'm not sure if I gave my 100% this month for HiveDebit, some personal issues have been affected my work here, so I made this in this month:

- New UI/UX for HiveDebit
- Evaluation of NFC Technology on iOS
- MyCard page where u can see how much NFC u used (No Fucking Coins)
- Printing App (Forked not Created but modified for Hive)

I'm really sorry for not having yet Business/Store Mode and Tap to pay through Android Devices, I used around 1 week to try to do Tap to pay through Android in a Safe and Cool way but at the end, what it looked like the best one, was the worse idea, but no worries, I have now the idea of how to do it, and also Store Mode.

HiveDebit development have been stoped since May 24 due to personal issues that I'm not going to say here, but I'll come back to work in the next few days doing Business/Store mode and Tap to pay through Android for u guys, once I got the Dev License of Apple, I'll focus on that as a important aspect of this.

A lot of you guys and normal people that doesn't know anything about hive or hivedebit, asked me a lot of times, How I can know which my balance is? And always my answer was, well you have your account connected to HiveDebit, so your balance it's your balance in your account.

Mmmmm, okay but sometimes you don't have the keys of that account, that's why now I can show you the MyCard page!

Concorde For Business - HiveDebit Update

If you don't know, normal airplanes as the Airbus A320 or Boeing 737 his max speed is 871 and 839, for me this is the speed of normal projects on this area of crypto and blockchain projects, but as we said in the beginning of this project, this is going to be done quick and cool as the Concorde.

**What updates?**
I think one of the most important things that could have an app to get users is how easy can be used, and the design, is it a good design or a shit design?

Now you can see smooth transitions, and bugs that could happen on the Create Invoice page are solved, if you find one (that would be really strange) please let me know, if you don't have funds, HiveDebit will tell you that you enjoyed NFC Technology (No Fucking Coins after this project).

Also, if you put a wrong Active Key, HiveDebit will tell you, you want to re-write your card or see the details? No worries I'm working in a new page where you can see your card details, in the page of "My Card" you'll be able to check that, and also if you forgot your PIN, I'll add something for that and also improve the mode of Card Creation so it can be more easy and cool, how many time this is going to take me? 2 Days, so hate me if I don't do a post in 2-3 days.

As you can see the first down is for my services of March, the second one for my services of April, you'll ask, why this man get paid 18 days after the pay of March and I'll explain to you my crazy adventure on Mexico so you can understand why, the third transaction is to send to new sign ups at talent land, not a mystery, the four transaction is for money that we put to top up cards in Talent Land, and the last one was an iPhone so I can do the job for iPhone users, don't worries is not a new iPhone or the most luxury one, is the one that works to test HiveDebit for iPhone users, because a lot of you guys have iPhone.

First of all, I’m beyond happy to have met such a talented and dedicated group of Hiveans at Talent Land Guadalajara 2025.  A lot of the preparation for the conference - the HIVE booth in particular - was done months before the conference even started.  I got there a couple of days before the conference and the airbnbs were already booked, the stand was built and the merch was already there too. 


 On Sunday evening, right before the conference, we went over the onboarding process, which involved several tools developed by Hiveans like https://app.holahive.com/?ticket=holahive, Hive Debit and Distriator.  These were fundamental in showing newcomers everything you can do in the HIVE ecosystem.

From early Monday morning until the very end on Thursday, the crew was working hard to show curious people the powerful tools available on HIVE.   So hats off to the amazing Talent Land team.  HIVE loves you.

### Account creation
We had a very neat onboarding workflow.  Big shoutout to @starkerz for envisioning what I consider the fastest and most useful account creation system yet.   Props to @sagarkothari88 and @enrique89 for helping create this.

#### 1 - Create and account

If you haven’t tried [https://app.holahive.com/](https://app.holahive.com/?ticket=holahive) yet, you absolutely should.  New users scan a QR to get there and follow a 3-step account creation process.  

We had bunch of account creation tickets for this purpose, so new users didn’t have to worry about paying for their account.   One less point of friction.

#### 2 - Get keychain and keep your keys safe

The Hive protocol uses public/private key pairs to sign messages.  It’s important to keep your keys in a safe place and Keychain is an awesome tool to do that.    Since new users copied their master password to the clipboard in the previous step, all they had to do was paste it into Keychain to import.   Easy as pie.

#### 3 - Post selfie

So folks could see how awesome HIVE-based social media front ends are and also get $2 in HBD in the process.

#### 4 - SpendHBD

The last step, Spend $HBD, was super awesome because new users had a few different options to buy stuff at businesses that accepted HBD directly or accepted Bitcoin over Lightning.

### The booth

Don’t get me wrong. The booth looked fantastic! BUT it didn’t quite communicate the power of the HIVE blockchain.   Maybe next time we can showcase some of the amazing dApps built on HIVE. For example, we could have live Splinterlands battles and prizes…

### The tech needs to be smoother

Yes, we are dealing with technology that is on the bleeding edge of innovation.   I understand, but people’s attention spans are short and buggy tech can be unconvincing.  We need to be able to showcase the tech in as few steps as possible with 0 bugs. No error codes, clear messaging, fast buttons.

### On site multimedia production

The Hive volunteers on-site did an amazing job with the tools they had. Recording videos on their mobile phones and using free software to edit and upload, but there was definitely space and time to do high quality interviews with top guests and a full-on TV quality setup.  This would have not only given us amazing content to send home, it would have been very eye-catching at the conference.  I bet more people would have come to the booth.  Plus, having 1 or two people dedicated to producing content would have allowed everybody else to focus on showcasing the apps and explaining the tech.
We don't even need to hire anybody as Hiveans who were there already have the gear and the experience.  Shameless plug for @recording-box.

### Share your content on web2

I think we could have asked new Hive citizens to share some photos or a few words on their web2 social media accounts and give HIVE a follow. I bet some of them have a huge following and could have given Hive a lot of exposure.

All in all, my experience as a promoter of HIVE’s #freedomtools at Talent Land gets an 8/10.   If I get invited  to participate again in the near future, I will definitely say yes!  I believe investing funds from HIVE’s DAO, the DHF, to have community members onboarding users at conferences like this is way more effective than flying motorcycles, wrapping rally cars or sponsoring European sports teams that have nothing to do with blockchain technology. #justsaying

Llego el primer evento del año en Cuba para Hive. Nos habíamos tardado por disímiles razones, pero ya está aquí el Bitcoin Pizza Day que este año será algo diferente. No solo disfrutaremos de unas buenas pizzas en familia, sino que otras comunidades se nos suma para crearles un par de cortos talleres donde podrás aprender más sobre Hive y criptomonedas. This is other really important and interesting update about what are we doing with @starkerz, because this is not a solo project, and you'll see on some posts photos of @starkerz talking about HiveDebit on @talentland and also some posts of people using HiveDebit Cards.

I had really interesting experience there, but most important, people really got an exciting experience using HiveDebit on Talent Land.

## Beta needs more

As some of you guys know, hivedebit.com right now is in beta phase, it took me around 2 weeks to do a "stable" website that works with the Proof of Concept so anybody can test the simple version of this project, but it's not perfect 100% in his design and some other UX/UI stuff, but doesn't matter, proof of concept work and you can create cards, and make invoices/receipts and pay it with your hivedebit card, for example this receipt:

As you can see this is one of the Hive Debit Cards that I made for Talent Land, and also a random receipt, don't pay attention to it if you are not going to pay it.

We tried HiveDebit in many places around Guadalajara, and worked 100%, I'll show you some examples of it.

And also, we made a contest with 3 prizes for 3 random users that got a new account on Hive and a HiveDebit card:

**First Place**: 250USD, a HiveDebit card Special Edition.
**Second Place**: 150USD, a HiveDebit card Special Edition.

This version is working really good and a good proof of this is that you can start using it, without getting a card from me, without me and without ID, KYC or other stupid stuff.

## MAX THROTTLE TO HIVEDEBIT

As everybody knows, this is a transparent project where I say how are we going and what are we doing, so I'm gonna tell you that the work of 7 weeks have been done in around 4.5 weeks.

- iPhone Beta Version would be possible in middle time.
- NFC Compatibility research Done.
- Research on alternative technologies for enabling NFC payments on iPhones, Done. 
- Study of communication protocols between NFC cards and the Hive blockchain, Done.
- Evaluation of Web NFC technologies for iOS support, Done.
- Beta version Done.

I made a lot of things even adding the time that it took me to go Guadalajara, the Medellin event with @arlettemsalase.

But beta version is going to get improved, as I said, I'm trying to do everything that I can do to have a version for iPhone so everybody can use it, I already made some improvements that I said I would do as Currencies, so you don't need to make conversion if you don't use USD, right now you can only try with MXN (Mexican Peso) and COP (Colombian Peso), but I'll try to get more currencies so everybody can use it without going Google and search USD to MyCurrency.

A mini stuff that I'll say is to end this post, is that the Real Version of HiveDebit is more decentralized than Bitcoin Lightning Cards, and it took me a lot of time to guarantee decentralization through this card and with a secure model, but never trust me, always verify, you'll see that the real version will be 10 times better than the Beta one.

I'm gonna try to have this updates ASAP (iPhone update is gonna take some time so don't be worried if you don't see it in the next Update) but for me also is really important to hear what you think about this, do you hate it? you are paranoic about it? Let me know, I'm also paranoic about this, this is one of the things that I really enjoy, so I can guarantee that this thing was made for paranoics by a paranoic.

##### This version was cool, you were able to:
- Make Transactions from HBD to HBD - Hive to Hive.
- Create your Own Card.
- Get a proof of payment.

###### But this was not perfect, so we had some errors on it like:
- Only in Spanish.
- You can't make another payment without refreshing the website.
- 2 Taps 2 Payments.
- UX/UI not so pretty and sometimes with bugs in Android.

###### But why am I telling you the errors of this? This post not was to convince you about using HiveDebit?
Yes it is Sir, something that is valuable for me is the Honesty as Billy Joel said in a Song, that's why I'm telling you what happened with that version and why I made a new one.

## The Beta Version 2
I need to figure out a good name for this, so I'll put name of the things that I like on the versions.
This version is really **improved** that improved needs to be in bold.


So what's new with this version and why you should start using it?


#### 1. Yo no hablo Español.
If you are reading this in English maybe it is beacause you only speak English, so the first version was really hard to use if you don't speak Spanish, that's why now we have 3 different languages in HiveDebit.

Let's be honest, 90% of the people that are reading this in their preferred app/website for Hive posts have activated the Dark Mode, because white is really white and you are getting blind.

#### 3. Hive Keychain
In the first version of Hive Debit you were able to log in with Keychain but that was for nothing, just for fun, but now with this new version, you are able to Log In, and meanwhile we are working in the new feature you can't use it at all, but you can go right now to HiveDebit.com Store Mode and you'll find that you need Hive Keychain connected, once you connect Hive Keychain you can manage your store, you can have waitress that are gonna receive tips and it's gonna be one tap, 2 payments, the principal receipt of your food, and the tip for the waitress, you can add your items so you don't need to do a lot of calculations and then the client just tap and pay.

**BUT** Don't use it yet please, right now you can go and see it, but it's not finished yet but it will be finished before Talent Land, so no worries, in a few days you are going to be able to manage your store.

#### 4. My Card, My Funds, My Pin
##### You can create your OWN CARD!
As we said in our proposal, we are not here for money, if money was our first important thing, I would be selling you a HiveDebit card for 50USD, but this is something that is not important for us, that's why we told you and we did it, you can go and get an NFC Tag 215-216 and create your own card.

##### Can I use other types of Tags?
Well, the short answer is yes, but I recommend an NFC Tag 215-216, but if you have an NFC Ring or things like that you can try.

And extra important thing is that you can use a PIN, you can set a PIN like 1234, and when you tap to pay in HiveDebit, HiveDebit is gonna ask for your PIN, don't share it, don't show it.

Also we have Daily MAX and Transaction MAX, this is to set how much money you want to spend per day, and how many per transaction (this is also in process but you can define it when you create your card, just put 0 if you want to spend all your money in pancakes and be a No Fucking Coins Guy).

##### What you need for this?
- Username
- Active Key
- A PIN (No required)
- Set Limits (No required)
- Android Phone (No required at all)

Once you have all this things you can create your HiveDebit card, but if you want a printed and cool one, find us in Talent Land, Guadalajara. (The cards are going to be free so don't be shy if you are there, specially @josepimpo)

#### 5. Just try it.
If you already created a HiveDebit card and you have an Android phone, just make a transaction with it, is very easy, very cool and at the end you can verify the transaction through HiveBlocks.

What are we doing in terms of HiveDebit?

🌱 HiveBR Starter

We received word of a crypto event on the beach one night. @boeltermc invited us to this event and put our squad on the guest list. Bybit is a crypto exchange who invited Boelter to the event as a crypto influencer since he recently spoke at the Hive event in Brazil about a week ago. You might have heard some recent buzz about Bybit mostly because they underwent a cyber attack where a North Korean hacker stole 1.5 Billion dollars worth of crypto from them. Highlander explained to me how the hacker did it. he infected one of the Bybit employees computers, and ... well, i kind of forgot what he explained, but the exchange approved a mysterious transaction that ethereum sometimes causes, and it gave access of the whole exchange to north korea for about an hour where they were able to extract 1.5 billion dollars lol. 

Anyways, that didnt stop us from enjoying an evening on Bybit of free food and drinks.

I have known Boelter whos first name is Vitor for some time now through skatehive and discord. it was cool to meet him in real life for the first time.

The outdoor sushi restaurant was filled with crypto enthusiasts. To be honest i really don't know what to talk about to crypto people. "hey ya know any good shit coins to invest in?" is about as deep as i could really go. Pretty much no-one has heard of hive and since thats my favorite crypto, i find myself not knowing how to connect with anyone. So i just drank a shitload of free beer. 

With beer, i eventually  started some conversations with people who spoke english. 

One dude told me i should climb to the top of a mountain. he showed me pictures, and then he showed me his custom google map of the dangerous parts of the rio.

The restaurant had a view of the beach at night and the waves were huge. it started to rain so we all had to huddle under the shelter.

The food that was brought out also consisted of waves, but unlike the waves of the ocean, these waves of food were made of various brazilian deep fried appetizers. After eating a ton of them, and beginning to feel like shit, the main course arrived, which was cheese ravioli lol.

Now i know you can add soy sauce to italian food to make it taste better. I'm learning so much in Brazil. 

Bybits promotional budget must have gotten cut, since this was a sushi restaurant and we were being served ravioli. But hey, at least they didn't cut the budget of their merch!

It was a pleasure to meet @boeltermc's girlfriend, Emanuele. The english version of her name is Emma. (@emanueledornelas) She works in the crypto space and is an english teacher. I think she might teach other languages too but i can't remember... and speaks very good english. she told me i need to paint again. she said i should paint in brazil to help me feel at home. this might be true since skating isnt really doing it for me right now. i got my heart broken by a dumb girl and have been feeling lonely.

She explained to me a bit of the culture of rio too. She said I need to be confident. People in Rio work hard for not much pay, so they compensate by playing hard, that is sort of what informs the party culture which manifests in full form during carnival. 

Anyways, we got these Hive debit cards to use in brazil. I don't know how they work or anything. I don't know if they work in countries that do not use the brazilian Real or not.

Update: ok so I realize how they work now. All they do is transfer Hive from one account (which you make for the debit card) to another hive account. You cant go into any store and purchase stuff with hive like i thought. This means i gotta find a merchant that accepts Hive to use it. Basic NFC functionality but still fun. Probably useful if you live in Venezuela where people actually accept hive all over.

This document provides a detailed technical description of the Hive Debit project, outlining the various phases of its development following the proposal submitted to the Decentralized Hive Fund (DHF). Throughout this guide, we delve into NFC architecture, transaction security, integration with other payment systems, user experience, and the key mechanisms to ensure efficient and reliable payments.
Across multiple phases, Hive Debit aims to create a secure, user-friendly, and scalable payment ecosystem for both users and merchants. The approach covers everything from cryptography and NFC data storage to solutions for iOS and integration with the Lightning Network.

## Phase 1: NFC System Development & Testing
### Compatibility with Android POS Terminals
The first step is ensuring compatibility with different types of terminals featuring NFC technology, especially those running on Android. To achieve this:

**Tests will be conducted on several brands and models of NFC-enabled devices to read and write data.
Response times, connection stability, and potential interoperability issues (e.g., differences in handling NDEF or binary data) will be measured.**

A recommended configuration will be documented to optimize the payment experience.

### Risks and Mitigation Measures
- Risk: Incompatibility with older firmware.
-  Mitigation: Implement and test NFC libraries that offer backward compatibility.
- Risk: Lags or disconnections in NFC reading.
-  Mitigation: Adjust reading parameters and increase sensitivity in terminals where possible.

## Security Evaluation of NFC Tag Types
Choosing the right NFC chip type is crucial. Hive Debit requires a balance between security and practicality:

- NTAG215 and NTAG216: Highly compatible but offer limited encryption.
- Desfire EV1 and EV2: Robust encryption, mutual authentication, and larger capacity.
- NFC cards with asymmetric cryptography: Each operation is locally signed, reducing the risk of cloning.
- For greater flexibility, potential form factors include:
- PVC NFC cards.
- NFC rings.
- Adhesive mini tags.

## Technical Benefits and Risks
- Benefit: Enhanced security through encrypted data storage.
- Risk: Higher costs when using advanced chips.
- Mitigation: Providing a range of basic or premium NFC cards.

## Cryptographic Authentication for Secure Transactions
Hive Debit relies on:
- ECDSA digital signatures to authenticate transactions without exposing private keys.
- AES-256 encryption in the chip’s memory to prevent unauthorized reads.

## Phase 1.1: Pre-Signed Transactions—Security & Operation
The concept of pre-signed transactions is central to Hive Debit. Using this mechanism, each user can authorize a set of payments with a maximum amount and defined validity period. Thus, during the payment process, the private key is not required in real time.

### Detailed Procedure
#### Generating the Pre-Signed Transaction


In a secure environment, the user creates and signs a payment order (to, amount, memo, limit, etc.).
An identifier links the signature to a specific batch of transactions.
Secure Storage


The transaction is encrypted and can be stored on the Hive Debit server or on the NFC card (if it supports advanced encryption).
A record is kept of the spending limit associated with that pre-signed transaction.
POS Interaction


When the NFC card is tapped, the transaction information—signature, limit, destination, etc.—is retrieved.

The POS sends this data to the Hive Debit server, which validates the signature and checks the limit.
Network Execution


If everything matches, the transaction is broadcast to the network, and a tx_id (transaction ID) is generated.

The amount is deducted from the pre-signed transaction’s limit.

### Technical Risks and Benefits
- Risk: Unauthorized use of the card if stolen.
-  Mitigation: Low limits or an optional PIN before authorizing payments.
- Risk: Vulnerability in the server that stores the signed transaction.
-  Mitigation: Encryption, network segmentation, and key rotation policies.
- Benefit: The user does not expose their private key when making payments.
- Benefit: Quick usage since the signature is already prepared.

- "Tap to Program": Allows writing NFC information from a reader or mobile device.
- Real-Time Notifications: The system notifies the user once a transaction is completed.

## Phase 3: iOS Research & Compatibility
On iOS, the main restriction is that Safari does not permit open NFC payments. Therefore, the most viable solution is:
- Developing a native app for iPhone or iPad, enabling NFC reading and sending the pre-signed transactions to the network.
- Investigating native APIs (Core NFC) to determine the level of access available in each iOS version.
- Implementing authentication logic (Face ID or Touch ID) to reinforce security and prevent unauthorized use.

### Technical Details & Challenges
- iOS NFC Control: Apple limits NFC tag read/write, so the app must use Core NFC and comply with strict guidelines to access the hardware.
- Secure Data Storage: The app can store pre-signed transactions and their limits in the Keychain for greater protection.
- No Dependency on Safari: All validation and payment logic occurs within the app, bypassing web restrictions.
- User Experience: The goal is to make the process as simple as “Open the app, tap the card, and confirm,” maintaining fluidity at the point of sale.

## Phase 4: Lightning Network Integration
The goal is also to enable Bitcoin payments via the Lightning Network. However, no final decision has been made yet due to time constraints and the inherent complexity. Some of the considered options include:

- Using a Bolt-like System: Designing an NFC card similar to the Bolt Card, linked to Hive Debit balances, enabling instant LN payments.
- v4vapp: This solution offers the ability to make Bitcoin payments from Hive or HBD, facilitating micropayments and direct Lightning interconnection.
- Operating a Lightning Node and Holding BTC: Hive Debit could maintain BTC reserves and handle internal conversion, though this increases the responsibility of asset custody.

Each approach poses challenges regarding liquidity, conversion, and infrastructure support. Comparative tests will be conducted to determine the best approach for the platform.

## Phase 5: Hive to HBD Conversion Mechanism
**To maximize the system’s utility:**
Merchants can opt to receive HBD even if the user pays in Hive.
The conversion process would happen internally, so the user is not exposed to additional steps.

- Payment Detection: The system sees that the customer pays in Hive.
- Internal Conversion: Hive Debit transparently converts that amount to HBD.
- Fund Delivery: The merchant receives HBD in their account.

## Phase 6: POS Development for Merchants
The primary goal of the POS is to assure merchants that the payment was finalized and they can verify it easily. The aim is a robust, secure, and user-friendly tool.

### Quick Checkout Interface:


- The merchant enters the amount to charge.
- The POS displays a “waiting” mode for NFC.
- When the card is tapped, the pre-signed transaction is read, and validation begins.


### Integrated NFC Support:

- Includes the necessary libraries to communicate with NFC chips.
- Simplifies the “tap to pay” process.
- Option to use USB or embedded NFC readers in the device.


### Tips & Receipts:

- Allows the customer to add a tip before finalizing the sale.
- Generates a digital receipt containing transaction details (amount, date, tx_id).
- Option to send the receipt via email or instant messaging.


### Multi-Currency:


- The merchant can choose which currency they want to receive (Hive, HBD, or BTC if Lightning is supported).
- If Lightning is available, the POS automatically handles conversion to display the amount in satoshis or fiat.

### Real-Time Confirmations:


- The POS connects to the Hive Debit server to verify transaction validity and confirm network inclusion.
- The merchant sees an on-screen “Payment Successful” message and transaction ID.
- A local and cloud record is kept for future reference.

### Security & Access Control:


- The POS may require merchant log-in to prevent unauthorized use by staff.
- Activity logs record who processed the payment, at what time, and for what amount.

### QR Code Payments (Additional Option):


- To complement NFC, the POS can also display a QR code.
- Users can scan this QR with a mobile wallet or Hive Debit app to complete payment.
- This feature ensures broader compatibility for devices lacking NFC or for those who prefer scanning a code.
- By taking this approach, merchants can rest assured each sale is recorded clearly, verifiably, and securely.

## Phase 7: Card Production, Packaging & Distribution
In the final phase, the plan is to:
- Manufacture NFC Cards: Set up agreements with card and NFC ring suppliers to ensure quality and durability.
- Pre-Funding & Registration: Provide the option to purchase a card with an initial balance, and then link it to the user’s account on the web portal.
- Shipping Strategy: Define distribution centers or logistics partners for quick delivery across different regions.

Quality Control: Each card undergoes an NFC validation test prior to shipping.
(Note: The use of tamper-proof seals and unique identifiers is omitted, but functionality checks remain in place to ensure each card works at the time of delivery.)

## Server Operator Access to Pre-Signed Transactions
A valid concern is whether the individual or entity running the Hive Debit server could misuse their control to access or drain pre-signed transactions. The system’s design addresses this through multiple safeguards:
Encryption at Rest


All stored pre-signed transactions are encrypted, requiring decryption keys that should be secured in a separate system or module (e.g., an HSM). Even with direct database access, the operator cannot trivially read or modify the raw data.
Strict Spend Limits & Time-Bound Validity


Each pre-signed transaction has a maximum spend limit and can be configured to expire. This reduces the possible damage in case of any misuse.
Audit Logs & Alerts


Any suspicious bulk retrieval or repeated attempts to execute transactions can trigger automated alerts.
User Revocation


Users can revoke outstanding pre-signed transactions at will, which immediately invalidates them if they suspect any compromise.
Infrastructure & Role Segregation


The system can separate the roles of database admin, application admin, and encryption key custodian, so no single party has unilateral control.

# How Do We Ensure Nobody Has Undue Access to Pre-Signed Transactions?
Not your keys, not your coins is a valid principle in crypto. While Hive Debit doesn’t store private keys, it does hold (or process) pre-signed transactions that can authorize limited spending. Here’s how we reduce the risk that anyone—not even the server operator—can freely exploit these:
1) Minimize Pre-Signed Amounts: Users should only sign a small buffer of transactions (e.g., daily or weekly spending). This naturally limits the maximum potential loss.
2) Option to Store Transactions on the NFC Card Itself: In some setups, the pre-signed data may reside only on the card, not the server. If the user never uploads them to a central server, the operator literally never sees them.
3) Zero Knowledge Storage: Even if the server holds encrypted copies, the system can be designed so that each user has a partial key or passphrase required to decrypt. Without it, the operator can’t read or alter anything.
4) Automatic or Manual Revocation: At any sign of server compromise, users can instantly revoke all outstanding pre-signed transactions. This kills their validity on-chain or within the Hive Debit logic.
5) High-Level Monitoring: Real-time logging and anomaly detection can freeze questionable transactions. If a staff member attempts a mass-execution of pre-signed transactions, alarms will trigger.
In short, the principle of “not your keys, not your coins” remains true if you give out unlimited, wide-ranging access. However, Hive Debit’s design aims to mitigate that by giving only narrowly scoped, time-limited, and user-revocable permissions that are worthless once revoked. This substantially lowers the trust burden on the server operator.

## Open Source - Tap to Program
As part of this funding, Hive Debit shall ensure that anyone can program a typical 200 bite NFC card locally using their mobile device so that they do not need to rely on a Hive Debit delivery service to benefit from these cards.  The user will be able to log into the Hive Debit website and tap the NFC card with their mobile device in order to program the card.  

The goal is that by the end of the funding period, Hive Debit code will be provided fully open source so that anyone can program their own card technology and improve on the one tap payment standard on Hive that we have made.

## Repayment
If Hive Debit becomes profitable via card sales and sales of other financial service products, it shall pay back all of the funds to the DHF obtained as part of this and any future funding kindly provided by the Hive community.

The purpose of this DHF proposal is to secure funding for the continued development, expansion, and adoption of Hive Debit. Key objectives include:

- **Enhancing NFC payment functionality**: Enabling direct payments from Hive to Hive and HBD to HBD and also implementing Hive > HBD and HBD > Hive transactions to increase flexibility within the ecosystem.

- **Creating a Hive Debit landing website**: A portal where users can order NFC cards, manage their accounts, and top up their balances.

- **Expanding compatibility to iOS**: Researching and implementing alternative NFC solutions for iPhone users.

- **Enabling Lightning payments**: Implementing Hive > Lightning and HBD > Lightning transactions to increase cross-network usability.

- **Developing merchant tools**: Creating a user-friendly Point of Sale (POS) interface accessible via URL to facilitate merchant adoption.

- **Scaling Hive Debit for global adoption**: Setting up a secure card production and distribution network to onboard new users efficiently.

- **Integration of a decentralized conversion mechanism**: Automating Hive to HBD conversion to enhance liquidity and usability.

- **Promoting adoption through sponsorship and events**: Distributing pre-funded Hive Debit cards at conferences and meetups to drive adoption.
