Sri Lanka has been voted the ‘Most Desirable Island in the World’ at the Wanterlust Reader Travel Awards 2024, held in London. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the island’s tourism industry, showcasing its appeal and diverse attractions. Over 200,000 travellers participated in the voting, moving Sri Lanka up from eight place last year to claim the Gold award.

This was the news in tourism related news recently. Sri Lanka is an island nation that boasts a history of more than 10,000 years. It's cultural heritage is rich in diversity. Sri Lanka is home to difference ethnic groups of which majority is Sinhalese who speak the native language Sinhala which is spoken only in Sri Lanka. Tamils, Muslims, Burgers and Malays are other minority ethnicities. Wedda people are another small group of indigenous people in Sri Lanka which is an inclusive part of Sri Lankan diversity.
