My daughter Leocarmen, a graduate in Business Administration, works in the administrative department of Purchasing at the Universidad de Oriente (UDO) in Sucre. Her husband, José, is a retired sergeant in the Hunters Battalion in Cumaná, Venezuela. From this union, a beautiful daughter was born, whom they named Rut Margarita. They live in the community where I live, two blocks from my house; they always visit me.

My granddaughter, Rut, has been very intelligent since she was very young. From the age of six months, my daughter would bring her to my house to care for her while she attended to her work. In the afternoons, I would spend her cleaning up. I taught her her first words, I taught her to walk. I would place a cloth diaper under each of her little arms, then hold the diaper by each end, and the baby began to walk without any fear. At nine months, she was already walking alone.

She was very strong and greedy. She ate all kinds of food. She loved eating mangoes. I would peel them off, and with her few teeth, she would eat two mangoes by herself.

When she grew up and was in elementary school, I would come home. She loved eating raw milk. She would climb on a chair, reach for the milk carton, and secretly eat it.

One day, while at home with Leocarmen, she sneaked into her mother and father's room and secretly ate some tangerine-flavored pills. Soon after, they had to take her to the hospital and pump her stomach because the pills were expired. From that moment on, she didn't secretly eat anything else.

Today she's an elegant brunette with honey-colored eyes and intensely black hair with curls reminiscent of coal mines. She's very friendly and beautiful.

 Ruth two hours to bathe, and the same thing happens when she gets out of the shower. It takes her a long time to leave the house. Her mother constantly scolds her for her peculiar gestures; she's very slow. With a smile, she replied with words full of affection: "Calm down, Mom, that's my nature." Her mother adores her so much that she responded in the same way: with a very similar smile.

Today she is seventeen years old and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with a good average.

She has already enrolled at the Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías University of Health Sciences. Tuition is completely free at that university; students complete their specialty in six years, and they graduate as medical doctors. They are qualified to work in any hospital or private clinic. Classes begin next Monday.

She is also a Christian, very dedicated to the activities assigned to her by her pastor. Every Saturday, she gets up very early, accompanied by her parents. She goes to church to sell various food items, with the goal of raising funds for the church.

They do this activity as a contribution to the church without receiving anything in return. But they do it in good faith.

Every Sunday She attends Mass, accompanied by her mother and father.

During the other days of the week, she attends Bible studies.

 She also attends several Christian groups in the homes of several parishioners.

One rainy afternoon, with a very strong wind, soaked with water, she came to my house very sad, her eyes full of tears. When she saw me, she burst into tears; she couldn't stop crying. I asked her  very gently:

"What's wrong, my love?" Very sad, she hugged me and said:

"I just lost a scholarship to attend classes at the Las Delicias Bible Institute." Very sadly, I asked her:

What were the reasons you jumped ship? With great exclamation, she replied:

"What made you jump ship? What does that mean, Grandma?" I replied with great confidence!

"You lost that opportunity because you were slow to act," she said with great sadness:

“That's right, Grandma, I had to send the last set of questions to the Institute headquarters, and I didn't do it on time.” Very discreetly, she asked again:

“And with that scholarship, what studies will you pursue?” Very sadly, she replied:

“I was going to continue my Bible studies to become a pastor,” replied.

“Do you see what it means to not complete your obligations on time? Do you have to stop being so slow about turning in an assignment?” More animated, she laughed.

“Grandma, I'll take your advice into account. From now on, I'll do all my activities and assignments on time,” I added very sweetly. 

If you follow and abide by those words you just mentioned, you'll be successful in your medical studies and in all the goals you set for yourself. You'll never miss the boat again.

Al posponer las actividades más importantes, ella  perdió la oportunidad fenomenal

Mi nieta Rut desde muy pequeña es muy inteligente, desde edad de seis meses de nacida, mi hija la llevaba a mi casa para cuidársela mientras ella atendía sus labores del trabajo, en la tarde la pasaba recogiendo. yo le enseñé sus primeras palabras, la enseñé a caminar colocaba un pañal de tela debajo de cada uno de sus bracitos, luego sostenía el pañal por cada punta y la niña comenzaba a caminar sin ningún temor a los 9 meses ya caminaba sola.

Era muy fuerte y glotona. Comía de todo. Le encantaban los mangos. Yo los pelaba y, con sus pocos dientes, se comía dos mangos ella sola.

Cuando creció y estaba en primaria, llegaba a casa. Le encantaba la leche cruda. Se subía a una silla, cogía el cartón de leche y se lo comía a escondidas.

Un día, estando en casa con Leocarmen, se coló en la habitación de sus padres y se comió a escondidas unas pastillas con sabor a  mandarina. Poco después, tuvieron que llevarla al hospital para hacerle un lavado de estómago porque las pastillas estaban caducadas. A partir de ese momento, no volvió a comer nada a escondidas.

Actualmente es una elegante morena de ojos color miel y cabello negro intenso con rizos que recuerdan a las minas de carbón. Es muy amigable y hermosa.

Ruth tarda dos horas en bañarse, y lo mismo ocurre al salir de la ducha. Tarda mucho en salir de casa. Su madre la regaña constantemente por sus peculiares gestos; es muy lenta. Con una sonrisa, le respondió con palabras llenas de cariño: «Tranquila, mamá, así es mi naturaleza». Su madre la adora tanto que le respondió de la misma manera: con una sonrisa muy parecida. 

Hoy en día  tiene diecisiete años y se graduó de  Bachiller en Ciencias con un buen promedio.

Ya se inscribió en la Universidad de   las Ciencias de la Salud “Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías”. En esa Universidad los estudios son completamente gratis, la especialidad la realiza el alumno en seis años, de allí sale como un galeno en medicina. Apto para trabajar en cualquier hospital o clínica privada. El lunes de la próxima semana comienzan las clases.  

Además, es cristiana, muy dedicada a las actividades que le asigna el pastor. Todos los sábados se levanta muy temprano, en compañía de sus padres.  Va a la iglesia a vender varios rubros alimenticios, con la finalidad de recaudar fondos financieros para la iglesia.

 Ellos realizan esa actividad como un aporte para la iglesia sin recibir nada a cambio. Pero lo hacen de muy buena fe.

Todos los domingos asiste a misa, acompañada por su madre y su padre.

Los demás días de la semana, asiste a estudios bíblicos. 

Ella también asiste a varios grupos cristianos en las casas de varios feligreses.

Una tarde lluviosa, con un viento muy fuerte y empapado, llegó a mi casa muy triste, con los ojos llenos de lágrimas. Al verme, rompió a llorar; no podía parar. Le pregunté con mucha dulzura:

"¿Qué te pasa, mi amor?" Muy triste, me abrazó y dijo:

"Acabo de perder una beca para asistir a clases en el Instituto Bíblico Las Delicias". Con mucha tristeza, le pregunté:

¿Cuáles fueron las razones por las que abandonaste el barco? Con gran exclamación, respondió:

"¿Qué te hizo abandonar el barco?, ¡Que significa eso  abuela?". ¡Respondí con mucha seguridad!

"Perdiste esa oportunidad por tu lentitud para actuar",  con gran tristeza ella  dijo::
“Así es, abuela, tuve que enviar la última colección de preguntas a la sede del Instituto y no lo hice a tiempo”. Con mucha discreción, le volví a preguntar:

“Y con esa beca, ¿qué estudios realizarás?”. Con mucha tristeza, respondió:

“Iba a continuar mis estudios bíblicos para ser pastora”, repliqué.

“¿Ves lo que significa no cumplir con tus obligaciones a tiempo? ¿Tienes que dejar de ser tan lenta para entregar una tarea?”. Más animada, se echó a reír.

“Abuela, tendré en cuenta tu consejo. De ahora en adelante, haré todas mis actividades y tareas a tiempo”, añadí con mucha dulzura:

Si sigues y cumples con lo que acabas de mencionar, tendrás éxito en tus estudios de medicina y en todas las metas que te propongas. Nunca volverás a perder el barco.

The question of 'money can't buy happiness or can it' is one that has two perspective to it based on experience on how we have handled money as human beings and what we have faced when we were broke and could not afford some certain things. There is a Proverbs that says "money is the root cause of all evil" this is true to some extent because there is the kind of money a person would have and they would purchase or engage in activities that they shouldn't have had an encounter with. For instance, the popular ritual people participate in because they are tired of poverty to have more money than their peers and to live a good life but the negative sides to these ritual performance is that when you take from the devil you have to give something in return, this good be shortage of life, sacrificing of humans and so. 

The Case for “Money Can’t Buy Happiness”, is a perspective of without money people can live their life without stress, all that is required is to be happy, fulfilled and contented with what they have. True happiness is not brought about by money but it's grows from true relationships, families, friendship, people ,love etc this can bring about purpose and meaning in a person's life steering from deep feelings that money cannot purchase.

Without money people can survive, I have experienced being broke for quite a number of times where I was not able to afford some certain things but I came to realize that when I have eaten and I am satisfied with what I ate every other thing is a counterfeit at that moment because that is the primary source that would help me to get what I need. The issue with having no money is that we adapt to our situations especially Nigerians who are so resilient that they do not allow anything to weigh them down.

Again, based on a movie I watched, the Love of money has made people to sacrifice their precious time all for chasing money. In the movie, there was this family that was contented with all they had while they were poor but once the man started associating with some certain friends and making good money, the love and unity within the family subsided. Before, the man would play with his kids, do their assignments and also help his wife in the kitchen, but when he got busy things change to the extent that he no longer had time for the family and even came back late from work.

However ,The Case for “Money Can Buy Happiness” is very relatable because when you have good money in your hands you are secured in a way. What I mean by this is that money offers freedom and security, take for instance you have health issues at a particular time, all you need to do is get a good hospital that would take care of your well-being and you would get better in no time but with no money you would have to endure and combat the sickness which could be dangerous.

Also, money can do every physical activity you want to do as a human being as long as you are ready to pay for the time and people services. For instance, you can use money to get help for house chores, go on vacations, beauty nice houses, take for class ticket, travel, learning, and so many other things.

Hello everyone, Welcome to my blog.

Life is all about making choices and decisions, and as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.

This edition of the Hive Learners writing topic reminds me of a movie I saw some time ago.

The movie was about a girl whose dad made a bad business decision while she was younger, and because of that decision, they went bankrupt, which led to her being bullied in school as the daughter of a poor man.

She made a decision and worked hard until she became wealthy just because she wanted to escape being bullied by the rich, but in a bid to escape what happened to her at a tender age, she became the exact person she was running from.

She bullied all her staff and didn't forgive her dad for the bad business decision he made years ago till he eventually died, and she was full of regrets in the end until she met someone who helped her through the process of recovery from the past.

Many times in life we do not have power over the things that happen to us, but we have the power to choose who we become, either by letting such situations define us or by deciding not to let such situations define the trajectory of our lives.

For those who have at one point or another gone through a situation that might have negatively shaped their personality, they have to seek help, but it is only someone who knows they have an issue that can seek help.

Most times the way such a person can know something is wrong is through a very close friend that can tell you anything; whether you are hurt or not, they will tell you.

Another way is when you meet people for the first time and they complain about something you did; then that's something to look out for.

Lastly is to ask for an honest review, and this could be done by directly walking up to people and asking or doing an anonymous section online.

Having done the above, the next thing is to get therapy, which will help rechannel your energy in the right part.

deciding not to let the situation of the past be the defining factor upon which your values are built

And lastly, have a value system that helps to reshape your mind, and you can do that by studying the Bible, reading books that can help you deal with the situation, and joining a club where you can talk about it.

Forgiveness is an act of benevolent choice to let go of the wrong being done to you at any point in time. The act of forgiveness gives you power over the situation by choosing not to react based on people's actions.

When people decide to throw tantrums because of bad past experiences, it is because they have not taken their power to take control; instead, they let the situations decide their actions.

In the end we may not have control over life's situations and what life brings at us, but we have the power to turn negative situations for our good based on our choices and actions.

  He had waited for three days but the man didn't show up so in rage, he went to the man's house but the door was locked from inside.
  A closeby neighbour who saw him knocking told him that man has been sick for some days now that he should go and come back later.
   He looked at woman with a bloody eye that could kill."Who asked you all this rubbish you're saying" He said as he hissed as thesame time.The neighbor was transfixed and stood like a statue for a while,she couldn't believe her eyes, she shaked her her pathetically as she left the scene.
    Later on,Rumors was heard all over the community, that the demure boy has harassed and insulted the man who's owing him. Some of villagers couldn't believe and saw as a conspiracy but as time went by they found that the once demure boy was just a swearing rabbit.

Money is one of the biggest challenges on campus for students. It is needed for literally everything, from paying for books (handouts) to registering for a group project, buying food, transportation, data, or even to hang out with friends after a stressful day. Money is something every student believes is needed to make life on campus fun, and without it, the possibility of these things becomes a thing of struggle. It often feels like money just disappears as soon as it gets into their hands. 

This week, we want to know how you personally manage your finances as a student. 

How do you balance your daily and monthly budgets? Are you the type that keeps a record of your spending, or do you try to control yourself with overspending? Do you even save part of your allowances or from part-time jobs, or are you in the category of students who run broke before the month ends? Trust me, this is always a hard time for a student.

For example, there was a budgeting app that I discovered while on campus, and it greatly helped me manage my finances by dividing my allowance into three parts: food, transportation and savings. The savings do come through for me during an emergency. 

For someone else, it might be that the way they manage their money is cooking their meals instead of buying food on campus. That saves a lot of time. 

You can also share funny or tough moments, like the time you spent all your money on snacks or even materials that are made compulsory and had to survive on noodles or garri for a week. 

So, let us in on how you do it! Share your tips, struggles and the lessons you learned while managing your finances and how they helped you.

The poor maid was always being maltreated by her madam. And always goes to bed hungry.Countless times has this happen but it happened on this day she couldn't take any longer.so, she decided to grab the bull by the horn,she sneaked out of house to pick some dried palm nut she could use to take with garri she snuck from the kitchen earlier that day.

  When she got to a particular bush,she saw a nut,very big and large as a head of a new born child but she didn't give bat an eye.

   By the she got home,Her madam was already sleeping, snorin. "Lazy fool" She siad in her mind as she made her way towards her room.When she cracked the nut open, the light in the building went off and a bright blinding light came from the nut, The next second,She couldn't believe what she saw, Right there an ancient genie appeared.
"Today's your lucky day" The genie said in an angelic echoing voice. "the universe has seen your suffering and that's why you saw this nut today, i will grant you any three wishes And you can come to make another three wishes when the moon is full".
 With a obvious broad smile,The maid knew that days of suffering and affliction were finally over.

The magical nut

Being a student comes with a lot of financial challenges. With limited income and endless things to spend money on, I have learned that managing my finances well is essential. One strategy that has helped me the most is prioritizing my needs over my wants. This approach ensures that I can cover the things I truly require while avoiding unnecessary stress or debt.

To start, I make a clear distinction between what I need and what I want. Needs are things like paying for tuition, buying textbooks, getting food, and covering transport costs. Wants are the extra things that are nice to have but not essential, like eating out frequently, buying new clothes, or splurging on gadgets. Focusing on my needs first allows me to use my money more responsibly and avoid impulsive purchases that could derail my budget.

I also plan my budget carefully each month. I write down my income, including allowances, part time earnings, or any scholarships, and then list all my necessary expenses. Only after covering these essentials do I consider spending on non-essentials, and even then, I try to limit it. This method gives me a sense of control over my finances and prevents the worry that comes from overspending.

Additionally, I look for ways to save money on the things I need. For example, I take advantage of student discounts, shop smartly for groceries, and rely on public transport whenever possible. These small choices help me stretch my money further while still taking care of my essential needs.

Overall, prioritizing needs over wants has not only helped me manage my money as a student but also taught me discipline and responsibility. It’s a skill I know will benefit me long after my time at university.

As students we all know how it can be when there is a protest going on in the School, while I was in school there were different protests that happened back then some of which includes students not contented with political results for sug presidents, Faculty poll issues, school fees increments, dressing, exam results and so on. 

These events are what makes a school or an institution interesting because we just have to experience it at least once in the four years that is stated for an academic career. One moment was memorable for me because it has to do with one of my course professors and students did not take it likely all.

I think the whole situation came about when this professor was trying to enter the school premises, before then students were having issues with the security men at the gate as the tend to embarrass to students at any slight provocation. Then the school authorities had passed a law that indecent dressing was banned which includes that female students must wear clothes that covers them fully and the guys must dress properly. This was the issue and in the school where students were still not happy with the reforms because you are naturally expected to dress in accordance to the weather but reverse was the case now.

So in The Heat Of All these, my lecturer was coming into the school and due to how everywhere was tensed he had an altercation with the security members for whatever reason and one of them hard the audacity to slap him in the face. 

Although when this happened at the beginning we had no knowledge of it but later on news spread on like Wildfire and for some reason students were agitated to the point that classes got canceled immediately and a protest was immediately in action because it was a slap on the face of everybody that a professor was assaulted by a mere security man.

This was quite interesting because we gathered as students to share our views on the issue and how disgusted we were about the situation. The SUG president adressesd the students with opening chants of "greatest Nigerian students". The real reason why student took up the matter is because of the fact that if they could assault a lecturer and an elderly person like that what more could they do to students who were harmless. Things did not subside until the school management, Dean of students addressed the situation and justice was taken.

The next time we had the man's class, he expressed how happy he was that people stood up to fight for him and did not allow inJustice and maltreatment to play down the values and morals of the school.

In conclusion, this is quite a memorable experience seeing all students  gathered to fight for a greater cause.

What makes the world fun is having other humans to share it with. 2Face Idibia, in his song, said if he were the only one on earth, no one would hear about him, there would be too much of everything, and no one to share with, no one to lean on in times of despair.

The world only makes sense when there are others to share the world with. If I were alone on this earth, I'm sure I wouldn't find it enjoyable, and I wouldn't be able to survive being alone. My survival here on earth is a result of the people I hold dear. I can hardly imagine being the only human on Earth and still surviving. When the world comes to an end, I won't like to be the last human that survives. It is hard enough sometimes, even with other humans on earth, and having to be the only human on earth won't be any fun at all. I would rather not survive than be alone on earth. What activities will I do alone? I am sure that the activities I find entertaining will become boring for me in the long run.

The feeling of being alone is very terrible, and to actually be alone on earth, this will definitely affect my mental state. I have seen this movie where a person was alone on earth, he got tired of staying alone and started searching for another human. He searched until he found another human, and he did, he was very excited, and everything changed for him, the world became more bearable, since he had found someone to share it with. The world is filled with people who speak different languages; finding someone who doesn’t speak the same language as me will be terrible, unless we find the technology that could help bridge this barrier.

We all need another person to survive, and if I find myself to be the last surviving person, I am certain I won't survive for long.
