**The Beta Version 2.9 is now live on Android and iOS, featuring many new internal changes.**

This update is a significant refactor due to new requirements from Google and Apple, which necessitate a complete redesign of the app's internal structure. This is why we have spent weeks testing thoroughly to ensure everything operates smoothly. Let's start by reviewing all the changes.

#### 1. Device Compatibility

- Support for 16k memory devices (as required by app stores).

#### 2. Enhanced Encryption Flow

- Unlock directly with biometrics (fingerprint/face ID).

- Automatic fallback to PIN if biometrics fail or are disabled.

- First-time setup will prompt biometrics twice: once to decrypt the old system and once to re-encrypt in the new system.

#### 3. New Security Settings Page

- Option to enable/disable biometrics.

- Added a PIN lock mechanism: after 5 failed attempts, login is locked temporarily. Lock time increases with each failed attempt until the correct PIN is entered.

#### 4. Navigation Improvements

- Smoother screen transition animations.

- We added a swipe gesture from the edge to go back between screens.

#### 5. Camera & Gestures

- Better QR code scanning ability with the camera.

- Improved gesture handling (e.g., reordering swipes, deleting browser favorites).

#### 6. Cleanup & Performance

- Removal of unused assets.

- Improvements in the notifications feature.

- General UI/UX adjustments.

#### 7. Technical Upgrade

- A huge part of the refactor was the switch from bare React Native to Expo.

- These changes come with several advantages, like faster upgrades to new React Native versions and related libraries, easier compliance with new store requirements, and faster deployments. This means less time between new releases.

<div id="what-to-do"><h1>What to do after this update?</h1></div>

With this update, most things happen behind the scenes. **On your side, the key step is decrypting and re-encrypting your keys using your biometrics to enable the new encryption system. If you were already using your fingerprints, the App will ask for your biometrics twice (once to decrypt using the old system, once to reencrypt using the new one).** This can either be your FaceID or Fingerprints, which you can also disable if you want in the new Settings > Security screen. Once the migration is done, you will be able to access the App using only your biometrics or your PIN (instead of both).

## Hive Price Update and Market Vibes

We dove into the current state of Hive's price, which has dipped a bit lately. It's sitting around 17.5 cents, the lowest we've seen in a while, but not the absolute bottom from last year. Some folks are panicking and selling, while others are scooping it up, especially to convert to #HBD for that sweet 15% interest. We reminisced about past pumps and hoped for more action from Korean exchanges or upcoming events. ## Cool Updates on Hive and Community Projects

One of the highlights was the new feature on Hive @Keychain: you can now generate new keys with just one click if they're compromised. It's a game-changer for security, especially if you notice weird transactions or shared keys by mistake. You do need your master key for it, but it's way easier than before. We also spotted @elmerlin powering down almost everything. Maybe he's investing elsewhere, who knows? On a brighter note, big congrats to @themarkymark for nearly reaching his goal on his DHF Proposal. It's awesome seeing devs like him and deliver real work before getting funded through #DHF. This trend reduces risks and shows actual progress. His tool lets non-devs peek into Hive transactions for more transparency, which we all stand for. Go check out his proposal and vote!

## Broader Topics and Upcoming Events

We shifted gears to bigger world issues, like the push for digital IDs in Europe. It feels like a step toward too much control, tracking everything we do online and off. We're worried about losing #freedom and #privacy, comparing it to systems in other countries. It's like handing over your master key to the government! We praised countries like Poland and Hungary for protecting their borders and culture amid #migration waves. Things are changing fast, and it's weird seeing our home countries feel so different. 

- On the #Hive side, @LeoDex just added perpetual trades without KYC, making it accessible for everyone, not just pros on centralized exchanges. That's their strength: solid trading tools. 

- Don't miss the AMA on October 2nd at 7 PM German time with MEXC and @detlev. It is a German exchange folks, where you can trade Hive with Solana and USDT. There's a contest with 500 Hive and 100 USDT up for grabs via Gleam. 

- Finally, shoutout to @ChainCulture in Malaysia they're growing fast with over 200 outsiders attending their event in a fancy glass house. They've got tons of partners, and it's perfect for bridging Hive with other projects. We're excited to see how it unfolds.

## Descent
I took a rope, a torch, and a little courage. The stairs breathed cold air up into my face. I went down anyway. This is a plain account of what happened.
