The suitcase is staring at me in the corner of the room.👀 The flight is booked, the hotel is locked in, and my camera batteries are already charged. There’s only one thing missing from this adventure: my HiveFest ticket.

For me, HiveFest isn’t just another conference. It’s a once-a-year chance to bring my online Hive world into real life. I want to sit down with the people whose posts I’ve read for years, shake hands with developers whose code I’ve been using, and laugh in person with those I usually only see behind a screen.

# What I want to do at HiveFest 🐝

- Learn more about how Hive apps are being built and how I can contribute to them.

- Share ideas with creators, artists, and builders who give Hive its heartbeat.

- Connect with people who are just as crazy about blockchain and community as I am.

- Collect stories, photos, and memories that I can take back home and turn into Hive posts.

# What I hope to learn 📚

I want to dive deeper into the technical side, how Hive scales, what’s coming in development, and how projects can work together instead of apart. I’m also curious to learn how different communities are using Hive around the world, from blogging to gaming to finance.

# Why HiveFest matters 🌍

Every year I see HiveFest posts roll across my feed and I think: “Wow, these people aren’t just usernames, they’re friends.” This year I’ll finally get to be in that photo, in that conversation, in that circle of Hive people who make this chain more than just blocks and tokens.

So yes, my bag is packed, my plans are made, and my energy is high. All that’s left is the ticket to make it official.

Already Packed 🛫 - Just Waiting on HiveFest 🎉

In the last Splinterlands giveaway, I was not one of the lucky winners. But to my surprise, I was kindly invited to join the next giveaway hosted by CWH – Creative Work Hour here on Hive. That was really nice and gave me a smile.

This time, the question is: **What do I want to do and what do I want to learn?**

For me, the answer is actually quite simple. I am a passionate photographer, and I always bring my camera gear with me when I travel. Of course, I will also take it with me when I go to Asia for the next HiveFest. My plan is to take lots of amazing photos – especially of the speakers on stage, but also of the people attending.

Last year, at HiveFest 2024 in Split, I had a great time doing exactly that – and many of the shots turned out really well. You can see those photos in my post here, including some links at the bottom to the other albums from Split:

To really get creative again this year, I will be coming with my trusted Sony Alpha 7 III, along with my favorite lenses – the 70-200 mm and the 16-35mm. This combo gives me the flexibility to capture wide scenes, group shots, and close ups on stage without disturbing the moment.

**So what do I want to do?** I want to capture the atmosphere, the energy, and the people of HiveFest 2025 – and share that back with the community.

**And what do I want to learn?** I want to improve how I tell stories through photos, experiment with new angles and settings, and maybe even try a few quick interviews or photo stories with people I meet.

Buuuuut that is not all! Over the past few days, I got even more creative and came up with something a little special.

Recently, I got myself a new camera – a Polaroid instant camera – and of course, I will be bringing it with me to HiveFest. This camera is very different from my Sony Alpha. It offers a completely new set of creative possibilities. Instead of digital files, you get real physical photos that you can hold in your hand right away. It brings a bit of a vintage feeling and adds a playful touch to capturing moments.

I do not want to give away too much just yet, but I can say this: it has something to do with an old tool I created some time ago. Maybe some of you remember it – I made it for your HiveFest 10 posts back then. It helped you quickly generate cool images and add text to your photos. The current version of that tool is still online and working, and you can find it here:

So yes – I have something fun planned with the Polaroid camera, and it will connect with that image generator tool in a new and creative way.

Since my flight and hotel are already booked, the only thing I still need now is my HiveFest ticket – and I am really happy to take part in this last giveaway opportunity.

This year, our trip to Asia – I mean the one with @rivalzzz and me after a HiveFest – will last a whole month. That is something we have never done like this before, so I am very excited about it.

After HiveFest in Malaysia, we do not have a final plan yet, but we already have a few ideas. One of them is to fly to Langkawi, the beautiful island in the north of Malaysia. From there, we are thinking about taking a boat to Thailand, where we want to visit the amazing island Koh Lipe. It is a small and peaceful place with clear water and white beaches – perfect for relaxing after HiveFest.

If we still have time and the weather is good, we might go even further – maybe to Ko Libong or Ko Muk. Ko Muk is known for its famous Emerald Cave, a secret lagoon that you can only enter by swimming through a dark tunnel. I have actually been there once before, and it was one of the most magical places I have ever seen.

# “Time speaks about opportunity and we have to learn to respect it. We never know if the opportunity will come again”

Interestingly, the other day, I got the answer I’ve been searching for this month and I muster up the courage to write this entry to [\#hf25giveaway](https://hive.blog/trending/hf25giveaway);  Anyway the quote on that heading was from a person I consider a mentor. 

## Here’s a little background story before I want to tell why I want to attend HiveFest. 

Out of the blue, I applied to be a speaker for Hivefest. Technically, I had this idea for so long and I got especially excited after organizing my first offline Hive event in the country.

It was really fun to learn something new, to take up new roles, and tell people about the benefits they can get by joining Hive. I truly believed in Hive and its ability to shape an individual and how being a part of a community can empower us and help us grow in life. 





Take it from me. I grew up here and I started my adulthood journey in this chain since I was around 20 years old. Now, I am old enough to be called aunty, I already have nieces and nephews 😂

So, when I heard Hivefest is going to be organized in Malaysia, I got even more excited. It’s closer to where I live and finally it’s going to be my first Hive fest I can attend offline. And voila, I somehow applied to be a speaker. For a moment, I was overjoyed then fears & anxiety took over for maybe some obvious reasons. 

But once I applied, I forgot about all of it. 

I decided to put it on my back burner until I found out I was chosen as the speaker. I didn’t know about it until @gtg showed me the picture on the website. It came as a surprise and I was pretty much sleepless and having impostor syndrome. 

### I got even more anxious and I even prepared myself in several ways. 

Since I am a perfectionist, it’s only fair that I have done these things in the past 4 weeks: 

* I talk to strangers a lot to muster up my courage to speak in front of the public   
* I reflected a lot what made community thrive and died  
* I expose myself to difficult and uncomfortable situations in case something happen when I talk in public, I won’t be too ashamed of it 😂   
* I am showing myself a lot more to strangers and being comfortable with it. 

### But again, who knows after all this preparation, at least I come a bit prepared. 

### This is going to be my first Offline Hivefest

Hivefest, to me, offers the opportunity for me to share ideas, opinions and especially as a community builder to learn what’s working in each other’s community and what keeps it alive. In my opinion, seeing the passion that everyone will have there is like refueling the reason why we’re still on Hive and believing in it all these years. 

And even more so, Not only to talk about the fun of building, running a community and growing through it but also meeting the people that I only got to read online. While I might have seen a lot more familiar faces, I am sure there are people that I have only known through their hive account and have worked with that I never met. So this Hivefest will be a great opportunity to meet them too. 

I also want to share my experiences being curator since 2017 to especially through OCD where I had the chance to discover many amazing authors and creators on this chain. While there were many changes and we adapt throughout the years, our core mission is still the same. We want to empower newcomers and undervalued authors to thrive. We were once new to this ecosystem and felt like our voices weren't heard. And through  many OCD initiatives, they have a chance to get discovered.  That’s the thing I wanted to share with many there. 

I am aware that the Hive ecosystem is so big that even for me, I couldn’t keep track of things. And among the vastness of it, I come from the social value side rather than the technical side of it all.So, being able to attend it will be a great honor to share my experiences being a community member in this chain.

The Courage to Speak and Share | Why I Want to Attend HiveFest 10

Attending Hivefest 7 (Amsterdam) and Hivefest 9 (Split) and meeting all the people who make up the hive ecosystem has been the ultimate hiveXperience for me.
Each time I got a huge motivational boost which led to the participation in several projects in the hive-ecosystem, participating at different fairs, conferences and exhibitions and more endurance in living through and with the depressed hive price.

Having never been to a Hivefest outside of Europe before, it was clear to me, when HivefestX was announced by live feed while attending hive creator days in Graz, I have to go there.

Unfortunately I was only able to book the flight at a very late point of time.. hence the flight is now pretty expensive and I blew already my whole budget by booking it and making the hotel reservation.   

So poor @solarwarrior hopes to win a ticket in this giveaway so that he still can afford some lunch while being over there... ;-)

Taking care of the creative part of the requirement list: 
I thought about getting a splinterlands tattoo onto my right cheek (and consequently hivefest X onto the left one).. but given the fact, that a hivefest attendee should be of exemplary behavior - especially if the host country is deeply religious - I guess this is not such a good idea. ;-)

So what are my hopes for attending hivefest X?
- Meet personally and get a good connection to hiveans from Asia
- Discuss the status and future of @splinterlands with the team and the fanbase (playing it since inception and having many ideas)
- to look if there is a opportunity to boost @cleanplanet project in those Asian countries that are not yet active, discussing river clean ups and barriers - there should be a huge opportunity there
- get a first hand update about @vsc.network and discover use cases / business cases  
- find more hiveans that want to take part in our very own @solarisfuture project - if you have not heard of it you can find an introduction here https://peakd.com/hive/@solarisfuture/project-solarisfuture-now-officially-launched-get-your-esg-content-curated (more to come soon)
- and last but no least trying to launch an initiative to bring (micro)- aid / help-organizations and philanthropy to the hive blockchain

The last point might require some explanation:
With the @solarisfuture project we not only want to bring renewable know-how and microfinance via our own HBD pool to Africa, Asia and South America but we also want to use it as show case for help-organizations to show them that hive would be their perfect web3 platform for their daily operations.

How is this?
Help-organizations often battle with a big overhead, long decision times, trouble getting feedback and reporting from projects and lack of feedback, responsibility and governance what actually happend with the money. Looking at the hive borehole project you can very well see, that @mcsamm and crew already have a much better reporting than many of those multi million (billion) dollar aid projects. You can actually see people using the funds for the promised action.

So why not take it a step further:
- Identifying LOCAL people that want to manage a small aid project
- Helping them get onto the hive blockchain (mobile phones everywhere)
- Discussing and optimizing of their projects and plans by the hive community
- Budgeting and project planing by blogging on hive blockchain
- Selection of project by hive-community / solarisfuture-community
- Payout of project finance with HBD ( proof 100% of all funds went to the project)
- Payout could also be step by step by issuing installments due to project progress
- Reporting of project progress on hive blog
- After finishing of project frequent blogging updates about the project and how it impacts daily live and the community
- Blogging about lessons learned to encourage and enhance next / future projects
- Paying back the project finance out of economic cash savings / earnings from the project back to @solarisfuture, so that next projects can be financed (no interest of course)
- flywheel ready to go

So the give-away would make my trip much easier and would make me really happy as I have never won anything on hive ;-) - however this ends... already very happy if you have donated your precious time and read my whole post so far..

It's all about attitude, right? Yes, but not only... the reputation, the connections, the history, the support, it all counts.

I have been on Hive for (only) 8 years (because when the thing started, I was starting my life in NZ), so I missed all the stuff (some of) you guys started in Portugal. I was soooo sad by then... felt like missing the ultimate opportunity!

Last year, I decided to fly to Split for Hive Fest 9! For the first time in my life I have flew into a HiveFest... and damn you...

And I WOULD have words for it, but they would probably DDoS this chain LOL 😏🤣

# HiveFest 9 was the FIRST real "Tomorrowland" of my crypto life (and believe me, I have been to crypto conferences)

Not just for fun (even if this last one was A MEGA EXPERIENCE), but ultimately the reason for "me" that wanted this for so many years... and the feeling of achieving it on MY OWN means... was HPOWERFUL!

No, I haven't been on a Tomorrowland one, but I can tell you, it's amazing! I am 100000% SURE!

So, yep, for me to say this about HiveFest, you can probably guess. But you don't need to just believe in my words...

# Why I want to attend @hivefest

I love decentralisation, and have and will keep helping many behind the scenes.

Well, I don't enjoy bragging about myself. I like to do the right thing. If someone wants to brag about me, go for it. I don't like it. I am not a salesman... I am an HPC IT Generalist! I CAN (and this part is very important) do everything kind of thing... hence I am not very good at specific things... including sales!

But if I can get pumped... I can be that guy! (just not probably the most consistent one) 🤦‍♂️

Anyhow, anyone surrounding me will be faced with my happy, positive attitude of discovery (because that's what I do for IRL). While that happens, I will try to discover what you want to find about Hive, help you to the best of my knowledge, and try to bring you the same experience I love about this chain.

Yes, while there I might need to slow down a bit... because I am just tooooo fast sometimes.... And I know that. I will do my best 😎

# 😏 What if I don't get this ticket?

Well, I am ok paying for @hivefest (if I have to pay for it, I will), but because prices have been going down lately, I have been self-motivated writing this post (otherwise I would not).

But the idea would be to power up the amount (and have it locked) of Hive needed to participate in HiveFest. So, if I get this value back (or if I even win this) I will make sure I power up that as a proud person.

Time for an afternoon beer. I'm in Japan, so the default beer is Kirin Ichiban Shibori. But I'm in a very good mood because I booked my ticket. I've booked my hotel and I'm on my way next month, the next two weeks, three weeks, to the **HiveFest Tropical Surge**.

This will be my first HiveFest ever. It'll be the first time I have ever met in the flesh, so to speak, anybody related to the Hive blockchain. So, here's cheers to that.

##Splinterlands##

So, I have just seen this post on the Hive blog that Splinterlands are giving away two tickets to attend the whole of this HiveFest taking place in Kuala Lumpur in October of this year. And so, I thought it'd be nice to try and win one of those prizes - win or not, I’ll tell you what I'm looking forward to doing at the HiveFest.

Now, I play a lot of Splinterlands. I've got a nice position in Splinterlands. I've just bought my fourth plot of land and I've got two on the go, and I've got one that will come on stream in the next month, sometime in October, I hope. So, thank you Splinterlands for giving us this opportunity.

##My Father's Malayan Stories##

What I want to do is tell you what I am looking forward to doing at the HiveFest in Kuala Lumpur. I've never been to Malaysia, so I want to give you a bit of background about my relationship with Malaysia, which is minimal - except that when I was a boy, my father, who'd been in the **Royal Engineers** during the Malayan Emergency, spent two or three years in Malaya with the Royal Engineers building airstrips in the jungle. He told me lots of stories about that time. So, I was always quite fascinated by Malaya, now Malaysia, but I've never got round to getting there, even though I have been to Singapore and I've lived in Japan for many, many years.

##First Flight in 7 Years!##
This will also be the first time I will have got on an airplane since before the coronavirus. The last time I flew was 2018. So, I've been in Japan since 2018 - not going away outside of Japan for holidays or home visits or anything like that at all, business trips, nothing. So, this will be my first flight in the last seven years. And because it's been so long since I've flown, I'm quite excited about it, even a bit nervous. I've not done it for seven years. But this is a real opportunity to go to a country I've never been to before and explore Kuala Lumpur - but really to meet all the people involved in the Hive community.

##The National Museum of Malaysia?##
And if I get time - and I doubt I will have time - I would really like to go to the National Museum and look at Malaysian history, especially the history of colonialism, including the Japanese occupation of Malaya as it was then and the Malayan Emergency as we called it, and then have a look at how Malaysia has developed since independence. It's an incredible story. I think if my father were alive today and could go to Malaysia, he would be astonished at the changes from his time there in the 1950s.

So anyway, I'm so much looking forward to this. 

##Hive Fest##
Let's talk about what I want to do in Kuala Lumpur during the HiveFest. For sure, connecting with people who I've only met through the Hive blockchain itself. There are several names I'm familiar with, but having never met them face-to-face, this will be a real opportunity to get to know people. That's what I'm really looking forward to. Not only meeting the ones who I've exchanged comments with and shared stuff and upvoted and got to know on the blockchain, but also many people who I haven't yet interacted with on the blockchain - to be able to interact with them person-to-person over a beer or two.

Speaking of which, I think one man I'm looking forward to meeting I think will be there - yes, indeed - where is he? Down here is @detlev - I've never got around to doing his #beersaturday so, it'd be great fun if @detlev is there on a Saturday and is doing a Beer Saturday in the flesh with fellow Hivers. I definitely want to take part in that. So, I hope you're going to be there, @detlev. I mean, I know you're busy with presentations and stuff, but it would be great to meet you.

Other people I'd like to meet coming on to the speakers are, speaking of Splinterlands, Clayboyn. @clayboyn does a lot of good work for Splinterlands. If you're involved in the game, you'll know that. So, I'd like to hook up with him at some stage. And who else was there? Another name I recognized - there's @sagarkothari88 of #3Speak and #distriator fame. I've not been involved so much, but I'm aware of some of his projects. So, I'd like to hook up with him as well. I mean, I'd like to hook up with ALL these people. I'm really looking forward to it. But those are a couple of names off the top of my head that I immediately recognized when I looked at these speakers.

##Kuala Lumpur Journal Hotel##
I'm looking forward to staying in the hotel. We got a really nice hotel - the Kuala Lumpur Journal Hotel. This I am looking forward to. I've got myself a nice room in this hotel. I'm not sure if I'm going to take my swimming trunks or not. I'm probably going to be busy with other stuff in this kind of venue, perhaps more than this kind of venue, but we'll see.

##Chain Culture##
So, the events - I'm there for every day, all five days. I'm arriving on Wednesday and I'm flying out on Monday just to make sure I can be present at everything that's going on. There's going to be the conference “Chain Culture” on Friday, I think, which is going to be a big one. Chain Culture is happening at a place called The Glass House and that sounds really cool. So, I'm looking forward to going there and quite possibly getting to know about other blockchains and hopefully other DeFi blockchains that could work with Hive.

##Hive-Based Crypto Loans?##
One thing that interests me is the idea of **crypto loans**. And I'm interested in the concept of developing - not that I'm a developer, I don't have the technology, I'm not a computer programmer or a programmer of any sort at all - but I'm interested in the idea of Hive-backed loans. It'd be amazing if we could have a Hive-backed loan system on the Hive blockchain. 

I know there are already such loans available more for development projects, and that's great, that is really nice. But I'm interested in borrowing Hive to invest and then creating a flywheel. That's what interests me. So that's something I would like to talk about with anybody who's around who may be interested in those kind of projects on the Hive blockchain - or perhaps if there are such people there on non-Hive chains. So, participating in the Chain Culture conference - that would be fantastic.

##Saturday Hive Expo, Workshops, City Trip...##
We've then got the Hive Expo. Looks like Saturday is more dedicated to Hive itself. We've got some workshops, so for sure I'll be taking part in those. We've got the city trip - definitely want to take part in that, because I doubt that I'm going to have time to go to the National Museum on my own initiative. There's going to be so much going on here. I'm not sure I'm going to want to break away or have time to break away and go off on my own. This is only for a few days, my first time ever in Kuala Lumpur. So, I think I'll just be happy to go with the flow of the workshops and go on the group city trip, go on a group excursion on the last day, and get in that closing dinner and drinks.

But if there is a bit of free time, I would like to go to that museum and look at the Malaysian perspective of colonialism and then the postcolonial development.

Okay, folks. So, I think that is about it for what I want to say about why I'm excited about this HiveFest. The only thing I haven't got is the ticket. And this will be my very first time meeting other Hivers. So, I'm super excited about that.

Anyway, guys, that's what I'm up to in the middle of October, and I'm hoping to meet a lot of you there and share some conviviality together.
