<div class="text-justify">Hello everyone. I want to tell you what happened in our place. We experienced a very strong 6.9 magnitude earthquake. The ground shook so hard that many houses broke down. Some families lost their homes, and sadly, many people also lost their lives. It was very scary. Until now, we still feel aftershocks, and people are afraid to sleep inside their houses because they might fall down.

Now, there are families who don’t have food to eat. Some people only eat a little rice for the whole day. Some children are thirsty because they don’t have clean water to drink. I feel so sad when I see them. I think about how hard it must be for mothers and fathers who cannot give food and water to their children.

Even if we are also victims of this earthquake here in Bogo, we want to do something to help.

A CALL FOR HELP CHAIN: “Your Help Can Save Lives in Bogo City”

<div class="text-justify">Seeing the faces and situations of my fellow people in the northern parts of Cebu, Philippines, especially those in remote areas who have not been fairly reached by relief efforts, I hear their cry for help.  Families, especially in remote areas, are sleeping outside, in their yards, on the farm, along the streets, having sick people, elders, children, and even infants exposed to the cold nights. Those people are often the least to receive relief, making their situation even more heartbreaking to see. Stores have been closed, water supplies have been disrupted, and there's no electricity bringing light to their scary nights. Rain can get heavy at any time, and there's not enough comfortable shelter for everyone.

On the night of September 30, everything changed so fast. I was at home when I first heard the news from a family member. They said that North Cebu was hit by a strong earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.9. My heart immediately dropped when I heard it, because my mother’s sister lives there. I could not sit still after knowing that. Together with my family, we quickly prepared ourselves and went straight to North Cebu to check on her.

The whole trip felt so long and heavy. It was already dark, but the news kept repeating in my mind. I kept asking myself, “Are they okay? Is my aunt safe? What happened to their house?” It was one of the longest rides I had ever felt, because every second I only wanted to see my aunt and make sure she was alive and fine.

When we finally reached Bogo City, the sight shocked me. The city looked like ground zero. Many infrastructures had collapsed, and some roads were hard to pass through. Streetlights were broken, walls had cracks, and the whole place felt different like a city that suddenly lost its color.

When we reached my auntie’s place, another sad sight welcomed us. Her house was totally gone. It had collapsed during the earthquake, leaving only broken parts of wood and concrete. My auntie and her family were already outside on the street, sitting with other people who were also afraid to go back inside their homes. We ran to hug them, and I felt relief knowing that they were safe even if they lost their house.

That night, we stayed with them. It was very scary because aftershocks kept coming. Almost every few minutes, the ground would shake again. Sometimes it was strong, sometimes light, but still enough to make everyone panic. People would stand up, some would scream, and all of us were always alert. Later we learned that more than 2,000 aftershocks were already recorded. No wonder no one could sleep properly.

We had only a few goods with us some food, water, and small supplies. It was not much, but at least it helped us get by. Many families around us also had only a little, and everyone was waiting for more help to arrive. The sad part was that we didn’t know when it would come. Volunteers and rescue teams were trying their best, but there were so many people who needed assistance.

Sleeping outside was not easy. The ground was hard and the night air was cold. Some used blankets, some only had mats, and others just sat through the night. But everyone chose to stay outside because it was safer than being inside. Every aftershock reminded us that a stronger one could still come, so safety came first.

During the day, the city looked even more heartbreaking. Schools, houses, and even churches had damages. Stores were closed, and many people just stayed in open areas where they felt safer. The whole place felt silent in a sad way, even if many people were gathered outside. Everyone was still shocked about what happened.

Even though everything felt heavy, I was still thankful that my auntie and her family were alive. Buildings can be fixed, houses can be rebuilt, but lives cannot be replaced. That was what gave me comfort that night. Seeing her alive, smiling a little despite losing her home, gave me strength to also stay positive.

My family and I stayed with them for a while, always moving when we felt another aftershock. It was tiring, but at least we were all together. That was the only thing that mattered most to me. Being with family made the scary situation a little lighter.

Now, we are still waiting for help, still sleeping in open spaces, still alert for aftershocks. Life is not yet back to normal, but we are trying to move forward one day at a time. I realized that in moments like this, what matters most is not the house, the things, or the comfort we lose it is the family and loved ones who are still alive with us.

It is scary, yes, but as long as we are together as a family, I know we can face it. The ground may shake, houses may fall, but love and unity will always keep us standing strong.

It was 10 o’clock at night just a normal evening. I was working on my laptop and the soft weight of my daughter asleep on my lap. My husband and son were watching a movie on his phone. Then, I felt it a shake.

"Stop moving," I told my husband and thinking he had simply shifted. But in the very next second, we knew this was no usual movement.It was a **6.9 earthquake**.

Pure instinct took over. I scooped up my daughter, wrapping her tight in her blanket. My husband quickly bundled our son. As the ground continued its terrifying dance, he held me close. That's when the tears came and the tears of raw fear and worry. All I could think was *Will we survive this night?* My silent prayer was only for one thing **"God, please protect my kids"**.

When the shaking finally stopped and a wave of relief washed over us but it was quickly replaced by a new urgency. I immediately grabbed my phone then messaging everyone I knew, desperate to check if they were okay.

But the true scale of the disaster hit me when I opened my "Blue app" (Facebook). My heart shattered as I saw some posts, the photos and the videos in which the severe damage and destruction the 6.9 magnitude earthquake had caused.

I saw a father crying for his child and children crying for their parents. I saw brave  rescuers giving their absolute best to save lives. It wasn't just a shake but it was a tragedy that changed Northern Cebu in glimpse of eye.

Our city has recently been struck by a strong 6.9 magnitude earthquake. What was once an ordinary day turned into something we will never forget. The ground shook so violently that many people lost not just their homes but even their lives. Everywhere you look, there is destruction and sadness. It has already been days since the calamity happened, yet the help and relief goods have not reached our area. People are hungry, thirsty, and desperate, not knowing when the next help will come.

As I write this, it has already been three days without proper food and water. Families are struggling to survive. Many of us have nothing left to eat, and we are forced to endure the situation without knowing what tomorrow will bring. What makes it more difficult is that we are also experiencing continuous aftershocks. Every time the ground trembles, it adds to the fear and trauma that we are carrying. Many of us cannot even sleep peacefully at night because the fear of another strong quake is always there.

In our community in San Remigio, the situation is very tough. We have no electricity, and our water supply has been cut off. The simple things we used to take for granted, like turning on the lights or filling a glass of water, now feel like impossible luxuries. Our days are filled with uncertainty, and our nights are filled with darkness and fear. Despite all of this, we are trying our best to stay strong and keep moving forward, but it is not easy when you have hungry children and worried families around you.

I have seen some people here on Hive starting chain posts to help the victims of the earthquake. They are donating the rewards they earn from their posts to buy food, water, and other necessities for the affected communities. That inspired me to do the same. I would like to use this post as part of a fundraising effort. Whatever HBD I will earn from this post, I will donate it to help buy groceries, drinking water, and other important supplies that we badly need. Since I am also in the same affected area, I hope that others can help us too, not just in spirit but also in small acts that can truly make a difference.

It is terrifying to be in this kind of situation. You feel helpless and broken, but at the same time, there is a part of me that wants to stand brave. I want to help not only my own family but also the other families who are suffering alongside us. I believe that in times of disaster, we should hold on to each other, even with the little strength we have left. This platform gives me hope because it shows that even in times of pain, we can still find ways to unite and lift one another up.

Every day that passes without these essentials makes life more unbearable for everyone. When the Ground Shook: A Night Cebuanos Will Never Forget

**If time(the world) froze for one hour for everyone except me, what would I do?**

I won't lie; many thoughts rushed in and out of my mind the moment I saw this prompt — a whole lot of things can be done, both imaginable and unimaginable. I have seen movies where, at a particular time, everyone freezes except one person, and that person goes on to do things, both within reach and beyond. Now, imagine if I found myself in such a situation — oh my God, I would do a lot of strange things.

THE GOOD
========

There's a woman I know who was wrongly accused and arrested and has been in police custody for a couple of months. The court case has been on, but nothing positive has happened yet. I feel for the woman because she was just managing her life with her daughter of about fourteen years. Although people have been saying she did what she was accused of, I don't like how everything played out. If the world froze for just one hour, I would go to the court and the police station and drop every piece of evidence possible to secure her release or grant her bail myself, with all papers cleared and every required stamp already in the office. When the world wakes up, they wouldn't find any evidence to hold her responsible.

THE BAD
=======

I won't lie; if the world froze for just an hour, one of the crazy things I would do is go to the filling station in my area and pump unlimited gallons of fuel. The problem would be where to store them, but I will make sure I pump enough fuel to last me from now until the end of next year. We haven't had light for a long while, and buying fuel has been hurting my pocket.

The means to do it is very simple: since everyone is frozen, I can boldly walk into the filling station with my numerous gallons, pump them full, and, since my house is close by, I wouldn't find it hard to move all of them before the hour finishes.

What was supposed to be a peaceful night of rest and relaxation turned into one of the most horrifying experiences we will never forget. The hours that should have been spent sleeping and regaining our strength became filled with fear, screams, and panic. Even now, after a few days have passed, the memory of that night haunts us. The damage has been done, and the trauma will always be there. This disaster left a scar in the hearts of us Cebuanos that time can never easily erase.

Bogo City and nearby towns have recently been placed under a state of calamity after a strong earthquake struck us with a magnitude of 6.9. It was one of the strongest we have ever felt in years, and truly something none of us expected. In just a matter of seconds, lives were lost, houses were damaged, and communities were shaken both physically and emotionally. Many people never thought something like this would happen on an ordinary Tuesday night.

It was supposed to be just another fun evening. People went about their routines, some enjoying dinner with their families, while others were out with friends. Other people were even inside a sports complex in San Remigio, playing their beloved game—basketball. Nobody thought that it would be their last. The sound of cheers and laughter quickly turned into cries of fear as the building trembled and debris began to fall. For some, the dream of scoring another point turned into a nightmare of trying to escape.

One of the people who died inside that sports complex was a referee from our neighboring barangay in Hagnaya. We might not have been very close, but I knew him well enough to feel saddened by his sudden passing. He was a kind young man, respected by many, who died doing the thing he loved most. His death, along with many others, reminded us how fragile life is, how in just a blink of an eye everything can change.

I also cannot forget how we ourselves survived that night. We were just playing an online game at home, laughing and making jokes, when the ground suddenly began to shake violently. At first, we thought it would stop in a few seconds, but it only grew stronger. All we could do was shout, “Lord, have mercy on us,” as we tried to hold on. My mother and siblings were screaming in the other room, their voices filled with fear. I rushed to shield my two younger siblings, trembling as I prayed that no debris would fall on us. Hearing my mother call out our names broke me inside, knowing that even she could not protect us from what was happening.

The earthquake was so strong that it felt like we were in a movie. Everything seemed unreal, like a dream we wished to wake up from. But it was not a dream. It was a painful reality. The trauma, the scars, and the grief of those who lost loved ones can never be exchanged for anything.

After the quake, we could not even return to our house to check our belongings. The aftershocks were too strong and too frequent. We had no choice but to camp outside, on the streets, along with our neighbors. It was safer under the open sky than under the roof of our houses that might collapse at any moment.

Now, three days have passed since that night, and the aftershocks still continue. It has been reported that more than 4000 and counting aftershocks have already been recorded, with magnitudes ranging from 1.2 to 5.1. The death toll has reached 72, with over 200 injured. Every aftershock feels like another alarm clock, waking us in the middle of the night, making us panic and wonder if another big one is coming. Nights have become longer and scarier, as many of us can no longer sleep soundly.

Some children in our area even resorted to writing banners asking for food and water, holding them up to passing cars in hopes of help. It broke my heart to see kids forced to do such things just to survive. Relief goods were slow to reach some areas, and for days, many families had nothing to eat. Parents watched their children cry from hunger, feeling helpless. Some households had no choice but to share whatever little they had left, if any.

It’s so heartbreaking to see kids at such a young age forced to do things like this because they have no other choice. The people in our area still haven’t received any relief goods. So, my friends @whosee, @rheign, @cintilla and I here in Hive decided to use this platform to do a fundraising effort to help our fellow cebuanos who are also victims of the calamity. The relief goods have not yet reached our area, and it has already been three days. We are planning to use the HBD we’ll earn from this post and from their posts to buy groceries and other necessities for the people in our community.

But if any of you are planning to help, we want to let you know the things that our community needs the most:
• flashlights
• mosquito nets
• mosquito coils
• tents
• food (canned goods or any easy-to-cook food)
• clean water
• diapers for babies
• hygiene kits
Let me know if you want to extend your help to us, and we will meet half way.

Despite all this pain and suffering, one thing I realized is how resilient and helpful Cebuanos are. Even though many of us are struggling, people still find ways to help their neighbors. Families share food with those who have none, and strangers extend comfort to each other even while dealing with their own fears. What’s more inspiring is seeing how Cebuanos from other municipalities reached out to us, bringing donations and supplies to areas that have not yet received help. It showed how strong the bayanihan spirit is among us.

We also humbly ask for your prayers. In times like this, when fear and uncertainty surround us, prayers become our greatest source of strength. We may not have control over the aftershocks or the hardships that follow, but we believe that prayers can give us hope, courage, and comfort. As we continue to face sleepless nights and the challenges brought by this disaster, your prayers mean so much to us. They remind us that we are not alone, that people care, and that brighter days will eventually come.

We may have lost homes, belongings, and even loved ones, but we have not lost our courage and faith. This disaster has scarred us, but it also reminded us of the strength we hold as a people. Together, we will rebuild. Together, we will rise again. And for every hand that reached out to help, for every gesture of kindness extended to us during this dark time, we Cebuanos will always be grateful.
