# Sunday Field Trip: From Caves to Canopy to Closing

On Sunday, October 19, after five days of community, keynotes, and coordination, HiveFest winds down with a refreshing change of scenery — a field trip to explore the natural and cultural wonders just outside Kuala Lumpur.

🪷 First Stop: Batu Caves
Towering 43 meters above the landscape, the golden Lord Murugan statue guards the entrance to Malaysia’s most famous Hindu temple complex. The Batu Caves are carved into 400-million-year-old limestone cliffs, filled with ancient cave systems, ornate shrines, vibrant staircases, and mischievous macaques. It’s both a pilgrimage site and a natural wonder — a chance to connect with something bigger, deeper, and far older than any blockchain.

## Optional Second Stop: Kanching Eco Forest Waterfall Reserve
For those who want to keep the nature vibes going, an optional forest detour is on the table: Just 30 minutes north of Kuala Lumpur lies one of Malaysia’s hidden gems: the lush, jungle-shrouded Kanching Eco Forest Park. Famous for its seven distinct waterfalls, the park offers a refreshing natural escape perfect for a half-day adventure during HiveFest week. From gentle cascades to thundering vertical drops, each waterfall unveils a different mood. 

A scenic trail winds uphill through thick rainforest, connecting the various tiers, natural pools, and picnic spots, where locals and travelers alike unwind beneath the canopy. Whether you’re dipping into crystal-clear water, snapping jungle selfies, or catching your breath near a misty drop-off, Kanching is the kind of place where nature puts on a full show. **Keep your lunch close though — the local monkeys are known to be bold.**

Hello everyone, I hope you have a lovely day! Recently I was happy to have a wonderful day that I will share with you today. That was the day with our young neighbor, who turned seven. Instead of a typical birthday party at home or in a playroom, his parents chose something different: they invited friends and neighbors to Byford's forest, better known to many as Banjička šuma (šuma means forest), a large green oasis in Banjica settlement in Belgrade.

The location was perfect, just by the amphitheater in the forest, where the trees rise high above your head, offering cool shade, and where the sound of Banjički potok (stream) adds a touch of nature.

We wandered a bit until we found this place, and when we finally arrived we were delighted, as if we had discovered a little paradise in our town.

From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this would not be a "traditional" children's party. There were no clowns, no organized games, no inflatable castles or loud music. Instead, the children had something far better: freedom. They ran across the grass, climbed on fallen branches, and chased each other along narrow forest paths. Every corner of the forest seemed like a new adventure waiting to happen.

Parents also had the opportunity to relax and rest while watching their children play.

One of the most memorable moments for my daughter came with the balloons. There were colorful balloons, which children tossed into the air, laughing as they floated around in the gentle breeze. Of course, in the middle of all this excitement, some balloons escaped and tumbled down into the stream.

But that didn't stop the fun, it only made it better. The kids quickly found sticks and started fishing the balloons out of the water. Shouts of triumph filled the air each time a soggy balloon was rescued. It was a game of teamwork, patience, and lots of laughter.

Instead of a decorated birthday cake with candles, there were donuts that the kids love. The kids were looking forward to them. Somehow, donuts felt even more festive than cake: bite-sized, fun, and perfect for sharing.

Watching them play so freely reminded all of us adults of something important: children don't always need structure to be happy. Sometimes the best gift we can give them is space and freedom, to invent their own games, to get dirty, to feel the cool water of the stream, to test their own ideas and limits. In today's world, where many children's activities are carefully planned, timed, and organized, this party stood out as a refreshing reminder that unstructured play is deeply valuable.

It was a party that showed us all that sometimes the simplest moments such as a forest, a picnic, donuts, balloons, and a group of curious children create the most lasting memories. Sometimes you don't need a lot of effort for happiness, nature arranges everything just right by itself.

A birthday adventure in Byford’s forest in Belgrade, Serbia

Last weekend I had the chance to photograph the Autumn Fair in Kaunas, Lithuania, and I want to share some of my impressions. This fair is one of those events that completely transforms the city center, filling the long pedestrian street of Freedom Alley with life, colors, and people from all over Lithuania. For several hours, I walked through the fair with my camera, capturing traders, buyers, and small but meaningful interactions.

It was actually a commissioned assignment for me, which made it even more special. I really enjoy photographing events, and getting paid for something I love is the perfect combination. At the same time, I felt more responsibility than usual, so of course there was a bit of stress involved. Still, once I started taking photos, I got into the flow and truly enjoyed the atmosphere.

The fair was huge, stretching along the Alley, which is already a long and lively street. Everywhere I turned, there were traders with their stands, selling everything from handmade crafts and jewelry to traditional food, drinks, and gifts. What I liked the most was watching the traders communicate with people: smiling, explaining, encouraging them to try or taste something. Many of them came from different parts of Lithuania, so it really felt like the whole country came together for this celebration.

One of the activities was a quiz organized in one part of the fair. The topic was climate change and pollution. People passing by could stop and try to answer a question, and if they got it right, they were rewarded with a fabric tote bag. It was such a nice idea because it both educated people and gave them something practical as a gift. The audience got really engaged – I saw several people eagerly raising their hands to answer. I loved capturing those spontaneous smiles when someone got a bag as a prize.

There were also plenty of spaces for children. Families could enjoy activities together, so the fair was not just about shopping but also about entertainment. This gave the whole event a warm, community-like feeling. I think that’s why I enjoy photographing fairs so much – they are full of emotions, from the laughter of children to the curiosity of buyers and the pride of the sellers.

After finishing my assignment, I returned the next day with my boyfriend, this time as a visitor. I wanted to look at the fair not through the camera but with my own eyes and even buy some gifts. It felt good to simply walk around, try some food, and enjoy the festive atmosphere without the pressure of photographing everything.

With all this experience, I realized that I tend to take a lot of photos, too many. I don’t yet have my unique style, so I shoot a lot just to be safe, and later I have to spend quite a bit of time selecting the best ones. It’s a process, and I know I will improve over time, but it’s also exciting to be on this learning journey.

Looking back, this fair was not only a great opportunity for me professionally but also personally. I got to capture the energy of a big city event, meet new people, and also just enjoy being part of it as a local resident. Kaunas really comes alive during such events, and the mixture of traditions, new ideas, and simple human interactions is what makes it worth photographing.

I hope you enjoy the photos I’m sharing below. They tell the story much better than words, but I wanted to give you some context about the day. The Autumn Fair was full of traders, conversations, laughter, small surprises like the quiz game, and the everyday beauty of people simply being together.

這家連鎖量販店，從我有記憶以來，就開始營業了，離我家走路不過兩分鐘而已，所以，家人們還蠻常去那邊消費的，量販店的最大特色就是什麼都有，從民生用品到進口零食，從衣物、鞋子到廚房家電，甚至連居家裝潢的小物都能在這裡找到，我媽最常去買些食材及熟食，她有時候下班後精疲力盡，不想再花時間備料、煮飯，就會買些現成的熟食回家，就能輕鬆享受熱騰騰的餐點，而且，我發現不少熟食都比我媽自己煮的美味。

我記得，之前某次臨時出差，在準備打包行李時，我突然發現我常用的登機行李箱壞了，四個輪子中的兩個斷了，幾乎沒法推，聽說可以送修行李箱，但是有修理行李箱的店不多，再說，送修回來可能也要一段時間，假如，上網買行李箱，也可能來不及，於是我就到家附近的量販店找個行李箱救急，量販店賣的行李箱款式雖然不多，價錢也稍貴，但是對我而言，卻是完美救援，

前陣子，鄰里間就有傳聞，這家量販店要結束營業了，大家都感到遺憾，因為這家量販店雖然不是什麼特別華麗或高檔的地方，但是卻承載著我們的日常生活片段，對我們來說，這裡既像是購物的場域，也是一種生活的延伸。

我特別找個空檔去看了一下，店內到處掛著「大清倉」及「一件不留」的布條，原本放得滿滿的貨架，現在空蕩了許多，哇，我還真是不習慣，另外，我確認過，所有的貨品都有打折，但是最多只有打到七折，畢竟商品賣不掉的話，還可以搬到其它分店繼續賣，打七折只是回饋鄰里的老顧客，這家量販店陪伴了我許多年，從日常採買到臨時救急，它幾乎已成為生活的一部分，真是失去了，才想到它的好

This chain supermarket has been around for as long as I can remember, and it’s only about a two-minute walk from my house, so my family used to shop there all the time. The best thing about it was that it literally had everything, from daily necessities to imported snacks, from clothes and shoes to kitchen appliances, and even little home décor items. My mom especially liked buying groceries and ready-to-eat meals there. Sometimes, after a long day at work, she’d be too tired to cook, so she’d just grab some hot meals from the store. Honestly, a lot of them tasted even better than her own cooking.

I still remember one time when I had a last-minute business trip. While I was packing, I realized my carry-on suitcase was broken — two out of its four wheels had snapped off, so it was almost impossible to push. I heard you could get suitcases repaired, but repair shops are hard to find, and even if I did send it in, it would take too long. Ordering one online wasn’t an option either, since it wouldn’t arrive in time. So I went straight to the nearby supermarket to buy one. They didn’t have many options, and the prices were a bit higher, but for me, it was a perfect lifesaver.

A little while ago, there were rumors in the neighborhood that this supermarket was going to shut down. Everyone felt disappointed, because even though it wasn’t anything fancy or high-end, it carried so many pieces of our daily lives. For us, it wasn’t just a place to shop. It felt like an extension of home.

I made time to stop by before it closed, and the store was plastered with “Big Clearance” and “Everything Must Go” signs. The shelves, once packed full, were now half-empty. Honestly, it felt strange to see it like that. I also checked, and everything was on sale, but the biggest discount was only 30% off. I guess it made sense. Anything they didn’t sell could just be moved to another branch. The 30% was more like a gesture of thanks to loyal local customers.

This supermarket has been with me for so many years. From everyday shopping to last-minute emergencies, it was always there. Now that it’s gone, I realize just how much I’ll miss it.

-	Es un evento gratuito; es decir, los atletas no van a realizar ningún tipo de pago por inscripción ni por la adquisición del kit de la competencia. El kit deportivo a ser entregado es totalmente gratuito.

-	En el Freestyle Day 2º Edición  2025, contaremos con 4 Jueces.

- Cantidad de atletas que van a competir: 26 como máximo.

- Es una competencia abierta a nivel local.
 
- Rondas: serán  4 rondas de acuerdo a la cantidad de atletas.

- Lugar: la locación en esta oportunidad  será el Circuito de Barras  del Parque El Ejército - Las Ballenas, Maracay, estado Aragua, Venezuela.

- Horario: la competencia inicia a las 11:00 am y   culmina a las 6:00 pm.

Ronda 1 - Clasificatoria

Se estima que la Ronda Clasificatoria tenga una duración máxima de 1,5 horas. Participarán 26 atletas, para clasificar las mejores puntuaciones  a la próxima ronda.  Cada atleta tendrá 45 segundos para demostrar sus habilidades y destrezas.  Pasan a la segunda ronda los atletas con los 13 mejores puntajes.

Ronda 2 - Cuarto  de finales
En la Ronda de Cuarto de finales participarán los 13  atletas con las mayores puntuaciones, los que hayan obtenido los puntajes más altos, de acuerdo a la ponderación de los Jueces.   Cada atleta tendrá 45 segundos para realizar su puesta en escena. Pasan a la tercera  ronda los atletas  los 10 mejores puntajes. 

Ronda 3 - Semifinales
En la Ronda de Semifinales participarán los 10  atletas que hayan obtenido la mayor puntuación en su actuación; de acuerdo a la ponderación de los Jueces.  Tendrán 45 segundos   para  realizar su puesta en escena. Finalmente, pasan a la ronda final los cinco atletas  con los mejores puntajes.

Ronda 4 -  Ronda final
En la Ronda final participan 5 atletas. Cada atleta  tendrá un periodo de 45 segundos  para realizar su ejecución. Quien obtenga la mayor ponderación será quien ocupe, el Primer Lugar en el Pódium en el Freestyle Day 2º Edición  2025.

Round 1 - Qualifying

The Qualifying Round is estimated to last a maximum of 1.5 hours. Thirty athletes will participate, with the highest scores advancing to the next round. Each athlete will have 45 seconds to demonstrate their skills. The athletes with the top 13 scores advance to the second round.

Round 2 - Quarterfinals
The 13 athletes with the highest scores, as weighted by the judges, will participate in the Quarterfinals. Each athlete will have 45 seconds to perform their performance. The athletes with the top 10 scores advance to the third round.

Round 3 - Semifinals
The 10 athletes with the highest scores, as weighted by the judges, will participate in the Semifinals. They will have 45 seconds to perform their performance. Finally, the five athletes with the highest scores advance to the finals.

Round 4 - Final Round
Five athletes will participate in the final round. Each athlete will have a 45-second period to complete their performance. The athlete with the highest score will take first place on the podium at the  Freestyle Day 2<sup>nd</sup>  Edition 2025.
